Off to the Ranch #10: Chickenian army attacked the garden!

in ecoTrain2 years ago

Heeeyho Readers! More updates from our little ranch!

The Chickenian army has attacked!

Leader: Billy the cock
Group: Chickenian army

Last seen roaming the west field just outside the forest. There's no witness of yesterday's (11) attack, but rumor has it the group acted swiftly and mercilessly. The ranchers were left hopeless after the pillage, which resulted in the complete loss of weeks of hard work and food supply. A bounty of 100 Hive has been placed for information leading to any member of the Chickenian army. Justice shall prevail.

A neighbor gifted us a hooster the other day. We'd need one to start raising hens soon, so the present came in the right time. Sort of. The chicken coop is done, but the chickens are free to roam since we haven't fenced the whole fruit tree field yet. It wasn't a problem having the chicks walking around and into the forest... until Billy the cock led them into the crime life.

I know gardens require continuous maintenance (which we haven't been able to provide lately). Also, the heat wave in southern Brazil is punishing the producers in a way never seen before. If it doesn't rain next week, we might have to install an irrigation system to water the fruit trees. Yet, it's sad to see the complete destruction a hooster can do to a garden.

Here are two pictures from my first Hive garden journal posted exactly one month ago.

Are you ready for the shock?

This is how the garden looks like after a week of having the hooster here. It's the same spot.

The filthy bastard devastated the tomatoes, disappeared with the collard greens, and messed up all the rest. Thank God he didn't find the juicy earthworms I've been so dearly taking care of in the composter, otherwise we'd have a rooster for dinner.

It's true. We haven't had the time to tidy the garden this past week either. Our workforce is concentrated fencing the fruit tree field, where the hens will have plenty of space to explore without invading the garden. Once their space is completed, a new garden will rise from the ashes.

In the end, this might be the most desastrous Hive garden journal, perhaps competing with @m31's total destruction by a farmer and his tractor. Let's see what the next weeks reserve for us.

Peace.

Oh no, this feeling after the disaster!
I hope at least it will rain soon!

It is funny though that I think most of us start our chicken coops by thinking that chickens are quite boring (at least that's my case) and then you just run after them finding out that they are not boring at all, on the contrary they can get pretty creative with the right guidance :)

It's all part of their strategy; act boring, not to attract attention. Their move is pretty subtle. Then, when we least expect baaaaaang they attack. Our only hope is to

Hahaha! Expect some more surprises for sure, hopefully not disastrous ones :)

Already happened, fuck! I worked hard cleaning some leaves today, gathered them in a pile and went about other businesses... just to discover that the chickens had spread the pile in search of bugs.

Now they love you even more, you are the fun guy that makes fun piles!!! It is incredible what they can do of (what seems to us as) nothing!

Dude, that rooster is a real badass, wow! Hope that juicy Hive bounty will bring him to the justice :)
