Just Before Dawn
Why do I stir at 5am?
I arise for I am blessed.
To catch the stillness before it wakes
While humans sleep the air relates
A quality felt only by
The treasured few who know the worth
Of drinking in the stillness there
To breathe the scent of clean fresh air
The scent of earth, of trees and flowers
coolness, dampness of the earliest hours
I close my eyes, but not to sleep
I allow the dimension of release
To free me from my human form
Shape shift to soar into the dawn
I am the eagle now reborn.
