Celebrating one year in our garden/allotment πŸŽ‰

What a pleasure it has been for the last year to enjoy this small patch of earth as our own. There is no question it has completely transformed the way we eat and the way we spend our afternoons. Best of all it has enhanced our overall connection with Great Mother Earth who continues to guide us in all matters.

On this occasion it was Luna's fourth birthday so I thought I would take a few pics showing off our happy children and our winter veg.

Here they are earlier in the day with the cake and an original design birthday card painted by my mother. Esteban looks like he is trying very hard not to blow out the candles ;)

IMG4152.JPG

Despite some unseasonably cold weather with a week of snow, the garden seems in perfect condition and the only thing which suffered noticeably was the aloe vera. Which is actually perfect, because now I have a ton of face & hair cream ;)

The cauliflower & broccoli bed can be seen here towards the back of the garden, looking very healthy.

IMG_4164.jpg

Felling proud of our first ever cauliflower. I wonder how much bigger they will get?

IMG_4158.jpg

Probably could have planted them closer together. Lesson learned.

IMG_4202.jpg

We have been harvesting these turnips for the last month. They are small but intensely flavoursome.

IMG_4165.jpg

These little beauties I have written about before. The Romanesco broccoli is the ultimate fractal vegetable, reminding us of the infinite perfection of all creation.

IMG_4159.jpg

We were too late last year to get decent crops from our peas so this year we are ready with over 100 plants which have been in the ground for two months already.

IMG_4166.jpg

They are just starting to produce flowers which means we are weeks away from endless crunchy fresh sweet pea pods. The leaves are also super tasty and can be used in salads.

IMG_4167.jpg

The lettuces no longer have a prioritised bed but instead grow all over the garden wherever there is a little space.

IMG_4169.jpg

Love all the wonderful colours they can be.

IMG_4171.jpg

The leeks have been amazing this winter. You can really taste the difference in the soup between these and the store bought leeks, which are flavourless by comparison.

IMG_4172.jpg

Next to the leeks we have onions & garlic, all doing well. Though we do have a few moles who are moving things round a bit.

IMG_4174.jpg

Beans looking good.

IMG_4178.jpg

Like the peas, they are flowering already.

IMG_4176.jpg

We actually have three beds dedicated to beans & sweet peas. Coz everyone loves them so much ;)

IMG_4204.jpg

Squeezed in a few more next to the compost.

IMG_4192.jpg

The rocket doesn't seem to have a season. It keeps on producing giant leaves no matter the weather. Which is great! They have an unmistakable flavour in the salads.

IMG_4190.jpg

Luna collecting water here...

IMG_4186.jpg

Making soup I believe.

IMG_4189.jpg

Esteban on a different mission.

IMG_4179.jpg

Making a swimming pool for mice.

IMG_4209.jpg

Don't tell the cat!

IMG_4227.jpg

She still comes with us every time and sits in my lap when she can.

IMG_4225.jpg

Behind the Sage when she can't.

IMG_4211.jpg

Tea time birthday treats.

IMG_4221.jpg

And a last jump on the trampoline with a friend.

IMG_4247.jpg

Before it is time to say goodbye.

Until tomorrow 🌱

Happy birthday, Luna!

Your garden is very abundant! Lucky you.

Luna & the garden say "merci"

We are indeed all very lucky :)

Love this post, Sam!πŸ˜€
Beautiful garden, beautiful family & kids...you're rich (in Life)! πŸ˜‰
Happy late B-day, Luna!
And you got your Aquarius girl leading the way into the Age of Aquarius...

Yes! Funny that I hadn't consciously registered that. She is indeed an Aquarius girl in the Age of Aquarius. And you can be sure she has magic unlike normal people. Her right eye remains dilated all the time and as she gets older I am getting closer to accurate communication to discover what this means and the best way in which to help her make the most of what must be a very unique way of looking at the world.

Hey Aishlinn!

Yes, Romanesco is quite special really. I could write an entire post about this vegetable and the divine mathematics & sacred geometry behind it.

I feel like we may yet have some further cold spells but the spring is getting closer now and soon the cherry trees will have their wonderful blossom, letting us know it is time to get more active around here ;)

I will remind Sabrina later (during the party we are having with the french grandparents) that it is a celebration of her birthing day too!

Good call.

Sending hugz x
