Intro
In this article I show the history of growing my annual broccoli requirement.
In diesem Artikel zeige ich den Verlauf des Anbaus meines Jahresbedarfs an Brokkoli.
6th March / 6. März
The "Atlantis F1-Hybride" variety with 50 pieces of seeds in a package was sown. I used two plastic trays with 4 * 6 seed trays each, so 48 in total. I mixed the earth from my own compost and sand in a ratio of 4: 1. The two bowls were set up on the windowsill facing south.
Zur Aussaat kam die Sorte "Atlantis F1-Hybride" mit 50 Stück Samen in einer Packung. Ich verwendete zwei Plastikschalen mit jeweils 4*6 Saatmulden, also 48 insgesamt. Die Erde mischte ich aus eigenem Kompost und Sand im Verhältniss 4:1. Aufgestellt wurden die beiden Schalen am Fensterbrett mit Südausrichtung.
17th April / 17. April
After 6 weeks the plants had risen very well. Now the weakest were torn out and replaced by pricking out the multiple occupied hollows. In the week of the ice saints from May 11th to 15th, the plants were planted in the open air, mulched with grass and watered well. I was able to swap the excess plants for pepper and tomato plants. In my 3 beds I then had 36 plants that were sufficient for my annual needs.
Nach 6 Wochen waren die Pflanzen sehr gut aufgegangen. Nun wurden die Schwächsten ausgerissen und durch pikieren der mehrfach belegten Mulden ersetzt. In der Woche der Eisheiligen vom 11.-15.Mai wurden die Pflanzen ins Freibeet ausgepflanzt, mit Gras gemulcht und gut angegossen. Die überzähligen Pflanzen konnte ich gegen Paprika- und Tomatenpflanzen tauschen. In meinen 3 Beeten hatte ich dann 36 Pflanzen, die für meinen Jahresbedarf ausreichen, stehen.
8th of July / 8. Juli
At the beginning of July the first florets on the heads were clearly formed and promised a good harvest. I tried several times to remove the bindweed with its roots, but without success. The large grazing marks on the leaves turned out to be snail damage. I tried to combat them exclusively by mulching with fresh grass clippings. That went really well until I neglected the control for a few days. The snails take advantage of this gap and eat huge parts of the leaves and heads.
Anfang Juli waren die ersten Röschen der Köpfe deutlich ausgebildet und versprachen eine gute Ernte. Mehrmals versuchte ich die Ackerwinde mit ihren Wurzeln zu entfernen, allerdings ohne Erfolg. Die großen Frasspuren auf den Blättern entpuppten sich als Schneckenfraß. Deren Bekämpfung versuchte ich ausschließlich mittels Mulchung mit frischem Grasschnitt. Das ging auch richtig gut bis zu dem Zeitpunkt an dem ich ein paar Tage die Kontrolle vernachlässigte. Diese Lücke nutzen die Schnecken aus und fraßen riesige Teile der Blätter und Köpfe an.
First harvest / Erste Ernte
A large head was harvested and fed to test the taste. Excellent quality, completely organic and the taste cannot be compared with the heads from the supermarket.
Ein großer Kopf wurde zum Test des Geschmacks geerntet und verköstigt. Ausgezeichnetet Qualität, völlig BIO und vom Geschmack nicht zu vergleichen mit den Köpfen aus dem Supermarkt.
10th of July / 10. Juli
Two days later I got hold of a vacuum sealer and the harvest could begin. About 10 heads were harvested. They were washed clean, cut into small pieces, and blanched. Then vacuum-sealed, welded and frozen in place.
Zwei Tage später hatte ich ein Vakuumiergerät besorgt und die Ernte konnte beginen. Etwa 10 Köpfe wurden geerntet. Sie wurden sauber gewaschen, klein geschnitten und blanchiert. Dann vakuumiert, verschweißt und eingefrohren.
15th of July / 15. Juli
The growth was rapid. The first flowers soon formed and huge quantities had to be harvested. I have now placed over 50 packs in the freezer, each with one or two servings of the finest broccoli from my own cultivation.
Das Wachstum ging rasend schnell von statten. Bald bildeten sich die ersten Blüten und es mussten riesige Mengen geerntet werden. Über 50 Packungen habe ich nun im Gefrierschrank untergebracht mit jeweils einer bis zwei Portionen feinstem Brokkoli aus eigenem Anbau.
August 11th / 11. August
The harvested plants keep forming new, smaller heads which I either eat immediately, give away or freeze. I deliberately left some plants there to generate seeds for the next year, the flowering is confusingly similar to rapeseed. I leave the snails alone, my harvest has come in. For me it was a complete success to grow the annual requirement for broccoli, the super vegetable with many important nutrients, for the first time.
Bei den geernteten Pflanzen bilden sich ständig neue kleinere Köpfe nach die ich entweder sofort esse, verschenke oder einfriere. Einige Pflanzen habe ich bewusst stehen gelassen um Samen für das nächste Jahr zu generieren, die Blüte ist zum verwechseln ähnlich dem Raps. Die Schnecken lasse ich in Ruhe, meine Ernte ist eingefahren. Für mich war das ein voller Erfolg, der Jahresbedarf an Brokkoli, dem Supergemüse mit vielen wichtigen Nähstoffen zum ersten Mal anzubauen.

sehr cool! Wer sein eigenes Essen anbaut, ist gar nicht mehr erpressbar und kann der Inflation den Mittelfinger zeigen :)
That is mostly appreciated for harvesting broccoli or vegetables at self garden, as it pure organic and not use any kind of pesticides, in my childhood, we also harvested few vegetables and it always bring happiness when it turn into food and recipe in our meal, have a nice day.

Tolle Ernte :-) ja die lieben Schnecken. ... hat das mit dem Grasschnitt wirklich geholfen? Hätte gedacht das zieht sie noch mehr an wegen der Feuchtigkeit darunter?
