Making A Dream Come True Takes Work And Dedication!

in The Alliance3 years ago

It seems that there are many that dream of buying land and clearing it and making their own homestead the way they want and not just dealing with someone else's idea of a homestead. I think it is a great thing but many do not realize the work and patience it takes to do this, not to mention the sacrifices you will have to make getting it up and going.

We have been at it for 7 years now, yes, we got the electricity, phone, and water on the property but it took money and some time, and lots of patience. We are doing all of this debt-free, except for financing the property. We started with nothing on the property except the camper and motorhome we live in. We hauled water in and used a generator when we first got here. It was a struggle till we got some everyday comforts put on the property.

Then we remodeled an office mobile home to make it a house for the wife and the grandkids. Build a pallet cabin for our son and me and the daughter still live in campers. We were going to build houses but right now it is not going to be possible, with the price of lumber and building materials. So we started looking for mobile homes that people wanted to get rid of for free or really cheap. We got lucky and found one a while back and had to move it the 50 miles to the property.

This is it! We got it moved over two weekends. Pulled one-half Sunday before last and the other last Sunday. It took us about a week to get them this close to being set, as it is expensive to even get this done, even doing it ourselves. As luck would have it we bought a Ford F-700 truck to move the modular buildings that we were going to make into a shelter, when that fell through we put it to good use moving this mobile home to our property.

We got that truck at a good price and got some work done to it and we are able to move things like this with it. It also helps that I am pretty good at driving and pulling things, being an OTR truck driver, and having military experience with heavy equipment. Tearing it down and hauling it ourselves saved us a lot of money. It took a toll on my body as I am sitting a lot recovering from all of this right now.

I will tell you that building a homestead from raw land is not for the fate of heart, it is an abundance of work and frustration unless you win the lottery or have the money in the bank. We really had no other opinions as we lost just about everything when I came back from Iraq and had all the medical problems I have. These last few weeks have taken a toll on me and the family trying to get this done and it is only half done right now.

I still have plans to get on the road but we are working towards having things better done here before I am gone for a while. This takes the cash flow we have to get things done here first, as it is important to have things better here first. So bear with me about getting on the road it is coming, just a little detour first. Have a great night/day, whatever it is in your neck of the woods!
ALWAYS FORWARD!!!

That's a big job.

Yes, it is! We will get there, slowly but surely.

You say debt-free, so I have to ask, do you have a well for the water?

Yes, we have a well! It cost us 5500.00 to get it drilled. We saved up most of that to get it drilled and paid the last of it off about 3 years ago.
