Sardala Bay, Kandıra, Kocaeli [ENG-TUR]

I continue my weekend trips, which I took a break for a while, with an alternative place. I will write about Sardala Bay, which is located in the Kandıra district of Kocaeli province in this part of my travel blog. I had heard of the Sardala Bay many times and I had long wated to visit it. I finally realized my wish.

Bir süredir ara verdiğim haftasonu gezilerime alternatif bir yerle devam ettim. Gezi yazılarımın bu bölümünde sizlere Kocaeli ilinin, Kandıra İlçesine bulunan Sardala Koyu’ndan bahsedeceğim. Adını çok defa duymuştum ve çoktandır gitmek istiyordum. Nihayet bu isteğimi gerçekleştirdim.

Sardala Bay was recommended by my friend who went camping there for several times. A week ago, this friend of mine went again there camping for 4 days. He sent me photos and videos from where he camped and from the different parts of Sardala Bay. I liked the photos and videos very much, I had already researched Sardala Bay before. As sea is intertwined with forest, I suggested my two friends to go to Sardala Bay on the third weekend of August. As I said, we hadn’t been to different places for a while.

Sardala Koyu’nu oraya birkaç defa kampa giden arkadaşım önermişti. Bu arkadaşım bir hafta önce tekrar oraya gidip 4 günlük kamp yapmıştı. Bana kamp yaptığı yerden ve Sardala Koyu’nun farklı yerlerinden fotoğraflar ve videolar attı. Fotoğraf ve viideoları çok beğenmiştim, Sardala Koyu’nu önceden de araştırmıştım. Orman ve deniz iç içe olunca, iki arkadaşıma Ağustos ayının üçüncü haftasonu Sardala Koyu’na gitmeyi önerdim. Zaten dediğim gibi bir süredir farklı yerler gezememiştik.

Since Sardala Bay is about 120 km away from us, it would be the farthest place we would ever go for a weekend trip. Camping is also reasonable if going this long way, but we wanted to explore it and have a barbecue at a place with a forest edge and sea view. Since we did not have opportunity to leave early in the morning, we did the shopping the evening before in order to save time. We set off at 10:00 the next day. We had a long way to go, we arrived first in Şile going by the Şile highway. Then, we continued on our way to Ağva without stopping.

Sardala Koy’u bize yaklaşık 120 km uzaklıkta olduğu için şimdiye kadar haftasonu gezisi için gideceğimiz en uzak yer olacaktı. Bu kadar yolu gittikten sonra kamp da yapılabilir, ama biz hem keşfetmek hem de orman kenarı, deniz manzaralı bir yerde mangal yapmak istedik. Sabah erkenden çıkma durumumuz olmadığı için zaman kazanmak adına market alışverişini bir gün önce akşamdan yaptık. Ertesi gün saat 10.00 gibi yola çıktık. Yolumuz uzundu, Şile otobanından önce Şile’ye vardık. Daha sonra durmadan Ağva’ya doğru yola devam ettik.

The road deteriorates a bit as it turns into a forest road after Şile, but you go through such beautiful scenic places. This is my favorite part of this road, I always take photos when going through. Every time I go by here, there are always such beautiful views.

Şile’den sonra yol, orman yoluna döndüğü için biraz bozuluyor ama böyle güzel manzaralı yerlerden geçiliyor. Benim bu yolun en sevdiğim kısmı burası, burdan geçerken hep fotoğraf çekiyorum. Buradan ne zaman geçersem geçeyim hep böyle güzel görüntüler ortaya çıkıyor.

There are 7 villages on the road to the center of Ağva and 5-6 of these villages have very beautiful beaches. I have visited those beaches one by one before. If I visit one of them again, I will prepare a post about it.

Ağva merkeze giden yolda 7 tane köy bulunuyor ve bu köylerin 5-6 tanesi çok güzel plajlara sahip. Daha önce o plajları tek tek gezmiştim. Bu plajlardan birine tekrar gidersem onunla ilgili ayrı bir yazı hazırlayacağım.

Having driven for over an hour, we finally reached the center of Ağva. We had to open the navigation from here. We still had half an hour to arrive. Passing by the center of Ağva, we continued on the Kandıra road without shifting to Kilimli Bay. We arrived at the entrance of Sardala Bay around 12 o'clock, where the asphalt road ends and a dirt and stony road begins. We wanted to park the car closest to the bay as we had a lot of materials, but we could barely find a parking area because there were many people who had come in before and in the morning. After parking the car, we went down and these were the first sights we run into.

Bir saatin üzerinde yolculuktan sonra nihayet Ağva merkeze varmıştık. Buradan sonrası için navigasyonu açmamız gerekti. Daha yarım saatlik yolumuz vardı. Ağva merkezi geçtikten sonra Kilimli Koyu’na sapmadan Kandıra yolundan devam ettik. Saat 12 gibi Sardala Koyu girişine vardık, burada asfalt yol bitiyor, toprak ve taşlı bir yol başlıyor. Malzememiz çok olduğu için koya en yakın yerde arabayı park etmek istedik ama önceden ve sabahtan gelen çok sayıda insan olduğu için zar zor park yeri bulabildik. Arabayı park ettikten sonra aşağı doğru indik ve sağlı sollu karşımıza çıkan ilk manzaralar buydu.

We went exploring right away. First, we looked to the right side. Walking a little on the path that slopes to the sea and has the risk of falling for the walker, we saw the Sardala Bay. Since our aim was to barbecue, we looked for a more wooded place. We took the materials from the car and went to the left side again. However, someone there told us that entrance or approach to the forest lands was forbidden because of the ongoing bans. The weather was very hot and we had a lot of materials to carry. We had to make quick decisions. We decided to go to the bay on the right side again.

Hemen keşfe çıktık. İlk olarak sağ tarafa baktık. Denize yamaç olan ve yürüyen için düşme riski barındıran patika bir yoldan biraz gittikten sonra karşımıza Sardala Koyu çıktı. Bizim amacımız mangal yapmak olduğu için daha çok ağaçlık bir yer aradık. Arabadan malzemeleri alarak tekrar sol tarafa gittik. Fakat, malum yasaklar devam ettiği için orda birisi bize ormana girmenin veya ormanın yanına yaklaşmanın yasak olduğunu söyledi. Hava çok sıcaktı ve elde taşıyacak malzememiz çoktu. Hızlı karar vermemiz gerekiyordu. Tekrar sağ taraftaki koya gitmeye karar verdik.

After walking under the heat with the materials on hand, we settled in a quiet place by the sea. Luckily, this part of the bay wasn't too crowded this side. We opened the umbrella, put the chairs towards the sea, then had some rest. Since it was past 13 o'clock, we were hungry and thus we lit the barbecue. Normally, I don't prefer to have a barbecue nearby sea; but, I wouldn’t be swimming, so it was fine for me. However, I wished I had brought clothes for swimming as the sea was beautiful and as calm as a millpond.

Sıcağın altında, elde malzemelerle zorlu bir yürüyüşten sonra deniz kenarında sakin bir yere kurulduk. Koyun bu taraf çok kalabalık değildi neyse ki. Şemşiyemizi açtık, denize karşı sandalyelerimizi koyduk, biraz soluklandık. Saat 13’ü geçtiği için artık açıkmıştık ve mangalı yaktık. Normalde deniz kenarında mangal yapmayı pek tercih etmem ama denize girmeyeceğimden benim için sorun yoktu. Yine de, deniz bu kadar güzel ve çarşaf gibi olunca keşke yüzmek için kıyafet getirseydim dedim kendime.

After lunch, walking to the right side of the bay, I wanted to see other places by myself. I climbed on the rocks nearby and took these photos.

Yemek işini hallettikten sonra ben tek başıma koyun sağ tarafına doğru yürüyerek diğer yerleri görmek istedim. Hemen yakındaki kayalıkların üstüne çıkarak bu resimleri çektim.

Then, I went up the hill and continued on this beautiful path through the forest. There are 5-6 scenic places in the forest, like a window opening to the bays. I stopped at all of them, took photos and continued on the path. You can swim or camp in all these bays. Since I didn't have enough time, I couldn't see how to go down from the path to the bays. By the way, there were people coming from the opposite side of the path. I had begun to wonder how far this path would lead. Finally, the path leads to a perfect natural pool called the Paradise Pool.

Sonra tepeye çıkarak orman içindeki bu güzel patika yoldan devam ettim. Ormanın içinde, sanki koylara açılan pencere misali 5-6 tane manzaralık yerler var. Hepsinde durup fotoğraf çekerek yoluma devam ettim. Tüm bu koylarda denize girebilir ya da kamp yapabilirsiniz. Yeterli zamanım olmadığı için patika yoldan aşağı nasıl iniliyor bakamadım. Bu arada, patika yolda karşı taraftan gelen insanlar da vardı. Bu yolun nereye kadar gideceğini merak etmeye başladım. Sonunda bu yol Cennet Havuzu diye adlandırılan mükemmel bir doğal havuza çıkıyor.

A 15-20 minute walk seemed like an hour to me. I saw such beautiful views that I went back and told my friends how beautiful the bays ahead were. Together we went again to places I had seen and we decided to come here for a weekend just to swim.

15-20 dakikalık bir yürüyüş bana sanki 1 saat gibi gelmişti. O kadar güzel manzaralar gördüm ki geri dönüp arkadaşlarıma ilerdeki koyların ne kadar güzel olduğunu söyledim. Hep beraber tekrar benim gördüğüm yerlere gittik ve buraya bir haftasonu sadece denize girmek için gelmeyi kararlaştırdık.

Sardala Bay is about 2 hours away from Istanbul. It has a magnificent nature and almost resembles the island of Phuket. I saw people coming here from the neighbouring provinces. Entry to Sardala bay is free, there is no facilitiy. You can swim or camp in almost all bays. You can also camp in the forest. There are paths in the forest where you can go from one place to another. I think that one should arrive at the latest at 10 o’clock in the morning in order to be the closest distance to the bay and avoid parking problems.

Sardala Koyu İstanbul’a yaklaşık 2 saat uzaklaktıkta.Mmuhteşem bir doğaya sahip ve adeta Puket adasını andırıyor. Buraya çevre illerden gelenleri de gördüm. Sardala koyuna giriş ücretsiz, herhangi bir tesis yok. Hemen hemen tüm koylarda denize girebilir veya kamp yapabilirsiniz. Ayrıca orman içinde de kamp yapabilirsiniz. Orman içinde bir yerden başka bir yere gidebileceğiniz patika yollar mevcut. Koya en yakın mesafede olmak ve park sorunu yaşmamak için sabah en geç saat 10’da gelinmeli diye düşünüyorum.
