Hello everyone! Today I will dedicate this article to talk about my experience attending my first professional basketball game. The game was in Valencia, Venezuela, at the Forum de Valencia and the game was the Trotamundos de Carabobo versus the Piratas de la Guaira. In an unforgettable game. So let's start with it.
I may sound a bit naive to bring this experience here as it can be taken as something casual and not very relevant as it was a mere game but, the truth is that it was quite significant for me. Let me put it in context, in our family we were never lovers of sports, in fact, the only one who had a particular interest in starting one was me, who was a karate athlete for several years. However, beyond the competitions and so on (in my sport), I never had the inactivity to attend any sports game before.

El juego fue en Valencia, Venezuela, en el Forum de Valencia y el partido era de los Trotamundos de Carabobo versus los Piratas de la Guaira. En un juego inolvidable. Así que comencemos con ello.
Puede sonar un poco ingenuo traer esta experiencia por aquí ya que puede tomarse como algo eventual y poco relevante al tratarse de un mero juego pero, la verdad es que fue bastante significativo para mí. Los pongo un poco en contexto, en nuestra familia nunca fuimos amantes de los deportes, de hecho, la única que tuvo un interés particular por iniciar alguno fuí yo, quién fui atleta de karate durante varios años. Sin embargo, más allá de las competencias y demás (en mi deporte), nunca tuve la inactiva de asistir antes a algún juego deportivo.
Back in 2015 I went for the first time to a soccer game at the Misael Delgado stadium, Valencia, Venezuela. It was exciting to see the amount of people full of love for their team and how a live game is very different from watching it on TV. Although I will be honest, a certain part of me felt overwhelmed by the atmosphere since in some games the fans were a bit problematic (somewhat aggressive and competitive) and soccer specifically was not a sport of my style. So I gave up attending these events.
On Wednesday August 10 was when the Basketball game that I mentioned at the beginning of this article took place. This time I was much more excited because my partner is a fan of this sport and often attends. So I decided to accept his proposal for all the things that made a basketball game very different from soccer. We arrived around 6:30 pm in the evening and bought some seats in a place near the basketball stadium.
Por allá en el 2015 fuí por primera vez a un juego de fútbol en el estadio Misael Delgado, Valencia, Venezuela. Fue emocionante ver la cantidad de personas llenas de amor por su equipo y como un juego en vivo es muy diferente a verlo en la televisión. Aunque seré sincera, cierta parte de mi se sintió abrumada por el ambiente ya que en algunos partidos los hinchas eran algo problemáticos (algo agresivos y competitivos) y el fútbol en específico no era un deporte de mi estilo. Por lo que desistí de asistir a estos eventos.
El día miércoles 10 de agosto fue cuando tuvo momento el partido de Basket que comenté en el inicio de este artículo. Está vez estaba mucho más emocionada pues mi pareja es fanático de este deporte y suele asistir con frecuencia. Así que decidí aceptar su propuesta por todas las cosas que volvían a un partido de basket muy diferente al de fútbol. Llegamos a eso de las 6:30 pm de la tarde y compramos unos asientos en un lugar cercano al estadio de baloncesto.
From the beginning I could feel the festive mood. The players warming up, the fans arriving, the mascot greeting everyone, the cheerleaders ready to cheer and us taking notes on everything. I like the fact that the place is enclosed and unlike a soccer stadium you are not prone to inclement weather.
The game was about to kick off and we all joined in welcoming the players. Greeting cheerfully and waiting for the long awaited start of the game. As soon as it started it was pleasant and very dynamic. There was no time to get bored because everything happens in a matter of seconds. My partner very kindly explained the moves and the play so that I could be aware of everything.
Desde el principio pude sentir los ánimos festivos. Los jugadores calentado, los fanáticos llegando, la mascota saludando a todos, las porristas listas para alentar y nosotros tomando notas sobre todo. Me agrada el hecho de que el lugar es cerrado y a diferencia de un estadio de fútbol no estás propenso a sufrir las inclemencias del clima.
El partido iba a dar inicio y todos unimos a dar la bienvenida a los jugadores. Saludando alegremente y esperando por el tan esperado inicio del partido. En cuanto comenzó fue agradable y muy dinámico. No había momentos para aburrirse pues todo sucede en cuestión de segundos. Mi pareja muy amablemente me fue explicando los movimientos y la jugada para que yo pudiera estar al corriente de todo.
The truth is that I understood it quite well and that helped me to feel even anguish when I noticed that the team we were cheering for (Trotamundos) could not make a basket. During the times they made pauses (time up) and gave place to the cheerleaders or moments of recreation as challenges for the public as basketing the ball, the kissing camera, the mascot playing with the public and so on.
It was a two-hour game and I must say that I could never have imagined how entertaining it can be to be part of a basketball game (in a sense of union between the public and the fans). And I hope to do it again, in fact, we already plan to attend the next event together. Basketball is definitely a very exciting, interesting, witty and strategic sport. I'm glad I was able to attend and I don't want to leave without first advising you not to wait any longer for that new proposal that you have been offered, get to know a new place or experience, do it, you may end up liking it. La verdad es que lo entendi bastante bien y eso me ayudó a sentir incluso angustia cuando notaba que el equipo a quién alentamos (Trotamundos) no lograba encestar. Durante los tiempos hacían pausas (time up) y daba lugar a las porristas o a momentos de recreación cómo retos para el público como encestar la pelota, la cámara de besos, la mascota jugando con el público y demás.
Fueron dos horas de juego y debo decir que nunca habría imaginado cuan entretenido puede ser realmente estar y ser parte (en un sentido de unión entre el público y fanáticos) de un partido de basket. Y espero volver a repetirlo, de hecho, ya tenemos planeado asistir al siguiente evento juntos. El Basket es definitivamente un deporte bastante movido, interesante, de ingenio y estrategia. Me alegra haber podido asistir y no me quiero ir sin antes aconsejarles a que no esperen más por esa nueva propuesta que les han ofrecido, conocer un lugar o experiencia nueva, háganlo, puede que termine gustandoles.
