Ladies of Hive Community Contest #3 • my entry #1 for Ladies of Hive

in Ladies of Hive4 years ago (edited)
Before starting off with the answers to the contest #3 of Ladies of Hive, I just would like to write some words to thank this #Community and the founders of this project, and to explain some points to underline the importance I give to the project itself.

On these days, despite all the technological and innovative developments and advancements our societies are achieving, one dogma is still traditionally and unconsciously acknowledged as it has been for centuries: white men have the "power". Although the white male supremacy has been tackled in many western countries (and I think of Northern European countries for instance), it has not yet been put into question at all by many others, which is to say, the majority of the world.

"Good times to be alive" | We live in such weird times: we can basically do everything with technology, we can do grocery shopping, communicate, work, save time on ephemeral home-based tasks, book flights, review services, even meeting our next fiance according to some sophisticated algorithms. But when a #pandemic makes our economy and all our societies shut down, some things may not work well even with all the technology we are provided with.

Living in Italy means a wide range of things: you have access to all sort of high-quality food, you're constantly exposed to the most amazing artistic masterpieces of all times, you're welcome everywhere you go especially if you use hand gestures more than English proficiency, and natural landscapes are pure almost as much as all the art and architecture. Last but not least, you're surrounded by retrograde mentality and way of thinking basically all the time and everywhere you go.

You should know Italy is a very traditional country and it has been influenced by the Church's rules forever, especially in the regions close to the Vatican State. All this is not "per se" a bad thing, but it begins to be awful when traditions and rules are companions of machismo, sexism, and white male supremacy.

The period of #quarantine due to the #Covid19 pandemic has meant, for hundreds and even thousands of Italian women, to stay home, stuck with their violent husbands or boyfriends who would spend their time abusing, mistreating, and mortifying their partners. How could technology help? How can we try and solve this issue?

I've always thought of #technology as a great world of tools to support the human world, but sometimes I consider Kubrick's statements (i.e. from Space Odissey) completely valid. Indeed, we need to save our humanity and make use of technology to solve problems and issues rather than creating new ones.

In this scenario I definitely believe every kind of initiative that support gender equality and tackle male supremacy is not only useful but fundamental. So I thank again Ladies of Hive's founders and the entire community for participating in the discourse on empowering and encouraging female/feminine/femme-identifying voices. Even though we are an online community based on #Hive, the efforts, words, and thoughts are all real and strongly support equality among genders. It is important to make use of every possible tool in order to solve the over-spread problem of gender inequality and to tackle white male supremacy as the ultimate real pandemic of our society.

Moving on to the Ladies of Hive Community contest #3 thanks again to @delilhavores for mentioning and inviting me to participate. In this post I would like to answer to the Question 3: Do you have a special quiet place to go to be by yourself to think about things, or make important decisions?

Taken in 2016 or 2017 by some friends of mine, at my fav beach place, Italy, where I spend the best Summer holidays of my life and recollect with nature, always.

Can I define myself a Romantic artist? Am I too presumptuous doing that?
Romanticism has always been my favorite artistic movement, since I was very young and started to study art movements at school. Not only are Romantic artists sort of obsessed with nature, but they are also stuck in a limbo of love and hate, life-saving and destructive passion for nature, a peculiar sentiment of freedom and yet slavery which only the German word Sehnsucht can fully explain. To me, the special quiet place I go to be by myself to ponder on decisions to make is precisely nature. Nature in any of its possible shapes. A park, the beach place where I grew up, a wonderful mountain lanscape to hike... just nature.

Taken in 2017 in Oslo, Norway, by a friend of mine, on the shore of a tiny lake in Sognsvann where he spent his Erasmus year.

Specifically, I find the sight of the sea and the water to be a "bearer of advice", meaning that just the act of standing close to the sea admiring the water surface keeps me calm and inspires me to make the right choices, to think of things with pragmatism and reasoning.

Taken by my home mate at Howth Harbor, near Dublin, Ireland, in 2016.

Sometimes I just wonder why we think we need more than what nature by itself provides us with; I mean, do we really need to take advantage of it in such an unnatural way? Can't we be satisfied with what we're already given spontaneously?

Taken by my mom back in 2010 (?) at my fav beach place, my real home.

Sometimes we don't need much but just to step back, recollect with nature, go back to the origins. To make the right decisions humans would just need that, and nothing else; at the end of the day we're all living beings coming from a natural world made of the very same matter. Why should we get annoyed or frustrated by anything if in fact we'd be just as free as nature?

Taken in 2014 by a friend met in Dublin, Ireland. Giants' Causeway, Northern Ireland, outstanding and unique natural beauty.

Thanks a million to all of you who read till the end this long post. I hope you appreciate my honest and open-heart reflections on the Feminist discourse as well as on the question of the contest. Please, feel free to leave a comment with your impressions and questions: I'm always open to new conversations!

I'd like to invite a great artist I came across on Hive: @francisftlp. I really believe her works are amazing and I'm sure she would bring her extraordinary and valuable contribution to the Ladies of Hive Community.

See ya next time!

Cheers! | yours, Flewsplash

In the Vancouver region I am so blessed with natural locations and wildlife to choose from. I too am drawn to the symbolism and marvelous roles of water in all life and living. Orchestral and symphony music is much like water with each selection with its own Character, style and form.

From a Christian hymn;
...got love like an ocean,
peace like a river,
joy like a fountain,...

A lovely Introduction, beautiful shots and Welcome to Ladies of Hive @flewsplash

Thanks a million for your words @kerrislravenhill and for welcoming in the community 😊 it's such a great surprise for me to see how the love for nature is a common passion for many of us. Vancouver is on my list of places to visit btw!

Wow, what a brilliant, heartfelt, articulate and well considered way to start your journey of growth and success in this community!

And I agree, the real pandemic has been ingrained into societal beliefs since day dot and is definitely the virus that has and continues to knowingly and intentionally devastate the entire ecosystem that the the the human race depends upon for survival- all over the world- in every nook and cranny this rot will be found- not just Italy, which is why it is so imperative that we women stand up and stay strong, teach all of our children the history of oppression from every perspective, from every era and generation, from every nation and every continent around the world, in every way we can and give them logical and viable solutions to conquer each battle to win the war.

I salute you @flewsplash warrior woman and all other invincible warrior woman in the community too.

I am proud to stand beside you and with you all.

Thanks a million for your insightful comment, agreed on everything you wrote completely 💪

Yeah well it's great to see so many on the same page as us too!
