LOH Contest #101: Resilience reincarnated as Woman, Evelia. [eng/esp]

Hello Ladies of Hive friends!

I introduce myself to you, my name is Ana and from what I have read and seen from the community, you are carrying out a striking initiative. Right when I read the official announcement post I thought: "Writing about another person is exciting, I'm taking my first steps in HIVE and this seems to be interesting, it makes me feel like a local chronicler". Unfortunately, due to my short time on the platform, I have not been able to develop a deep relationship with any other Hiver, so I chose to be present by answering the second question of the proposal. Likewise, I take advantage of inviting @pialejoana to learn about this initiative, who has had enough patience for me in this short time of knowing her, she has been a kind of mentor, thank you for such appreciated support.

Let's talk about a resilient woman, she can be your friend, family member, co-worker, etc. What is her life challenge and what did she do to overcome the trial she faced?

Let's talk about my grandmother, Evelia.

Her birth dates back several decades ago, I really don't know how to define her date of birth. Because when she was very young, a flood occurred in the area where she lived and all her papers, such as her birth certificate and more, were lost in the middle of the disaster, so they chose to put a fictitious date on the new documentation. My grandmother belonged to a large family, there were 11 sisters and only one boy. My grandmother's mother dies prematurely from a heart attack, my grandmother's father takes care of her as much as she could, he worked in the store and took care of everyone. After a couple of years, my grandmother's father also dies from a heart attack, leaving everyone adrift in the childhood stage. My grandmother always said: After Mom and Dad are gone, life is much harder, you seem to be lost.

Being very young, at about 10 years of age, she was already working to eat and to give to her sisters. She worked hard in restaurants and food outlets, where she was first in charge of cleaning and then learned how to prepare food, which earned her a job in the kitchen. First as a cook, then as head of local menus and as purchasing manager. A few years passed when she met my grandfather, who fell in love with her and they married. My grandmother was certainly too old for my grandmother, but I suppose it was not uncommon in those days for young women to marry older men.

Evelia's life became a life of blows and mistreatment in the shadow of alcohol. She had 4 children, where the two oldest were men and the two youngest were female (one of them is my mother, specifically the youngest). In the house there were no material shortages, food was almost per bundle or sack of each thing, rather things sometimes decomposed and were thrown away, there was money to buy clothes and more when I wanted. But, behind all that were the repeated and bad moments of domestic violence, which not only extended to her as a wife, but also to her children. Edmundo (my grandfather's name), after marrying Evelia, never let her work again and she only had to limit herself to being a housewife. My grandmother totally depended on him and when she worked up the courage to leave there, my grandfather would go looking for her and bring her back with threats. On one of the occasions, Edmundo hanged my grandmother and she did as she could, she let go, she ran to the kitchen and grabbed a knife, she said she would kill him. My mother tells me, that at that time she was just a girl, that in my grandmother's eyes there was fury, madness and hysterical exhaustion from all the years of abuse. My grandfather, by her side, felt the fear and left the house that afternoon.

After many years, as a result of that event, the violence decreased and by fate my grandfather fell ill and died. Evelia, who had been in the midst of abuse and the eye of domestic violence, found herself alone and lost again. Her reaction, basically hers, was to cry for a few days and then take the attitude of recovery. She began to work preparing food for people who worked in the workshops and businesses near her home, so she earned enough money to cover her needs. When this happened, my grandmother was already living alone, the violence and the bad life had pushed her children to take different paths of life and away from the focus of the home.

Evelia embraced solitude and began to enjoy her independence and her strength as a woman. He once said: "When Edmund died, I thought I would starve and my life would end there. But instead it was rebirth. I am in the happiest and most peaceful years of my life, I don't feel that fear of force and nor am I subjected to the docile behavior resulting from the blows".

My grandmother, despite her tragic life, was never an abusive, sad or emotionless person. Instead, she was a very sweet granny, loving and always ready to give you a kiss and a hug. It is she, my best example of resilience, who overcame hard times and continued to strengthen her "me of her, as a woman". She is my best point of reference that happiness has no age nor does it come after complex material facts, but accompanied by tranquility.

Too bad I don't have a photo of her to show you. She died a few years ago and I lost the pictures of her. There were some of hers left in her old house, but when I went looking for them, they had already ransacked the place.

ESPAÑOL

¡Hola amigas de Ladies of Hive!

With the story you narrate, your grandma is a great woman.

That's right, thank you very much.

Your Grandmother is a very strong lady. She had such a difficult life that many would give up. Right from her childhood she has been through struggles and lived it all. She has taught you many valuable lessons through her own actions.

Yes, he was always strong. She kept so much pain in silence and even so, I always saw her animated and smiling. She came to visit us every Tuesday, she brought us homemade pancakes and kisses. I have a wonderful memory of his strength, will and good personality. Thank you for reading.

Excelente entrada, me enamore!

I'm speechless.
Thanks for sharing @lacochinaensalsa ❤️
