I would like to answer this @ladiesofhive -- contest question
1️⃣ Tuesday, March 8 is International Women's Day. This is a day where all women are celebrated. Is there any woman in your life whom you admire or feel impacted you; or any woman in general you feel contributed to the advancement of women? Give us two reasons why. The contribution to women can be either local or worldwide.

There are many people in our life who come across and leaves a deep impression on us. They become our inspiration, we want to become like them. They become our role models and influencers. For me specially Sports Woman are the ones who I get majorly admired with. It is difficult to just select one of them but when I think of this question, there is this one Woman who comes to my mind distinctly and she is the famous sports woman of India Mary Kom. She is a Boxer, and has won many medals. If you look at her story, it's very inspirational and it teaches all the woman of the world no matter what conditions you go through in life there is always a bounce back opportunities.

To give a brief background about her life. She was born in a very poor family in India. She did some basic schooling and with her interest in sports eventually she managed to get into sports. Boxing was her key passion in sport. A game which is majorly considered for man and specially in a country like India, these games do not get much of encouragement for woman. There was hardly any interest shown towards her in the beginning by the sports authorities to promote her in the game. With a lot of effort she managed to get into International playing and since 2007 has won many International championship medals for India, making India proud.

In the time when her career was rising, she got pregnant and in that moment she felt like her career was finished. She stopped playing. After her delivery, her husband again encouraged her to start playing and she came back to the field. She was very hesitant but then she decided to get back. With the birth of the child her physical fitness had all gone for a toss. She had to start all over again with her physical fitness. And she started playing again.

The first reason why I admire her is because the most difficult time for her was to convince her own self that she could play this game at an international level, because everyone around her made her believe that this game was not for her. Her husband was supportive and he gave her a lot of encouragement. A woman in a boxing career in India was the most uncommon thing. She fought her way out and made way for all the future woman of India. She gave the confidence to all the other woman of our Country that if they had dreams they could pursue it with passion. Other sports were not difficult to get light but this particular sport was believed as not meant for Indian girls.

The second reason why I admire her is because she set an example for all the females, who think that pregnancy and children can stop their growth in life and they cannot pursue their passion because they have to be there for their children, she is a true inspiration. She never let these conditions come in her way. Though she was discouraged many times by people around her, she did not stop. Soon after her delivery she got back to the field. She had 2 children at the peak of her career, but she never stopped. She took sabbaticals and she moved on.

It was not always about winning for her, it was more about every time getting up and moving ahead. When boxers in the field do not play well, people pass comments like, stop playing like a girl. This statement itself speaks about the way society looks at the females in this particular game. She redefined this statement. Mary Kom with her determination proved this statement completely wrong.

She broke all the barriers in a sport which is largely male dominant and changed the way the sports authorities also looked at Indian women in sports. She has been a true motivator to all the woman of our Country and she sets true example of, that no obstacles can stop you, if you are determined. She proved to all the Women of my Country that a Women is just not meant for taking care of the home, giving birth to children or doing menial jobs. She has mental as Physical strength of the same capacity as any other man.

I will like to invite @taliakerch to participate in this contest.

a very interesting person! An Indian woman a boxer - it's really so unusual, I was surprised

Hello @nainaztengra. An inspiring story of courage and strength when people around you won't suuport you due to stereotypeing. I must admit, I've not heard of women boxers from India. Knowing what I do about the country, I can see how hard a time she went through to develop and realize her potential.

And women have proven that you can do more than one occupation at a time.

Thanks so much for sharing her story. Have a good weekend.
