Bienvenidos a mi blog 🌻✨

In the month of March, specifically on the 8th, International Women's Day is commemorated 🌹 Many of us congratulate ourselves, give each other nice words and encouragement in celebration of the recognition of our rights, equality and participation in society; but above all, we must remember that on March 8, 1908, a transcendental event marked the history of labor and union struggle in the whole world: 129 women died in a fire in a textile factory, in New York 🇺🇲 after they went on strike with permanence in their workplace for demanding and asserting their rights.

It has been a long and tortuous road through the years, a road that has been traveled by many exemplary women who have achieved that many of us today have the right to vote, fair working conditions, the right to study, to be more independent; there is still a long way to go before society as a whole recognizes our efforts and performance at a global level in a fair and equitable manner.

First of all, if I have to mention several women I admire, I will start with my mother, Mirna Gómez. She was a preeschool assistant and was not satisfied with this. My mother has a degree in Early Childhood Education and was doing a postgraduate course that she could not finish because of the Pandemic. In the midst of a divorce with my father and three small daughters, my mother never faltered and continued studying to be our example. First she graduated as a TSU, then she finished her degree every Saturday, where she had to get up early and take the road on a very dangerous road to the Universidad Experimental Simón Rodríguez Extensión Cariaco, in the state of Sucre - Venezuela. My mother always instilled in my two sisters and me that the only thing she would leave us with in this life would be our studies and that we should never depend on a man for anything. That all our merits and achievements should emanate from our own efforts and so it was. That was the mantra that accompanied me every day in my college days so that I would not give up and finish my degree.

Mi mamá acompañandome en mi acto de grado de Ingeniería 👩🏽‍🔬👩🏽‍🎓 Diciembre, 2016 // My mom accompanying me at my engineering degree ceremony 👩🏽🔬👩🏽🎓 December, 2016

I, for example, am a Chemical Process Engineer. I am proud to have worked in my country in two different jobs: as Dynamic Support of Petroleum Wells for a PDVSA contractor and as a Laboratory Engineer in the "Factory of Factories" Project, both jobs performed in Anaco, Anzoátegui State - Venezuela. But the moment in my career that excites me the most was having created equipment for the physical chemical treatment of water that would help complete the academic profile of the students in my career. My thesis was a success even though it was not given the recognition we had hoped for. But that filled me with even more satisfaction, to have left a little piece of my knowledge for my house of studies: the Universidad Politécnica Territorial del Oeste de Sucre "Clodosbaldo Russian", located in Cumaná, Sucre State - Venezuela. Former University Institute of Technology of Cumaná, which has the only Pilot plant in Venezuela 🇻🇪 What a great honor! I am currently waiting for my verdict regarding the homologation of my university papers in Spain to be able to apply for a position in a school through a competitive examination or in a chemical company or laboratory to continue practicing after having my first baby.

¡Realmente Impresionante!

Throughout the years many women have fought and even given their lives for this tireless struggle for women's rights. Among the most exemplary for me that I can mention are: ✓ Rosalind Franklin (1920-1958) who in her lifetime was a British chemist and crystallographer whose work was fundamental to the understanding of the molecular structures of DNA, RNA, viruses, carbon and graphite. She photographed DNA for the first time and her discovery was fundamental to understanding its structure. However, she was betrayed by her own research team and was not even mentioned in the speech at the Nobel Prize award ceremony received by James Watson and Francis Crick in 1962. Unfair, isn't it? Another great woman I admire is ✓Marie Curie (1867 - 1934) and her daughter ✓ Iréne Joliot - Curie (1897 - 1956). Marie Curie, Polish physicist and chemist, naturalized French, is one of the most exemplary and distinguished figures of 20th century science discoveries. Together with her husband, James Curie, they found two new chemical elements: polonium and radium. They called "Radioactivity" the phenomenon discovered by Becquerel, which consisted in the emission of invisible rays by uranium. He was awarded two Nobel Prizes: for Physics in 1903 and for Chemistry in 1912. Moreover, his daughter Irene won a Nobel Prize in 1935 for the discovery of Artificial Radioactivity. Really impressive!

In the modern era, I greatly admire activist ✓Greta Thunberg, originally from Sweden, who is now a 19-year-old environmental activist focused on the risks posed by global warming. She has Asperger's but this does not limit her in any way to achieve all that she has set out to do: "to make her voice heard globally". On the other hand, there are the actresses: ✓Natalie Portman, Israeli, American nationalized, winner of 4 Oscar awards, who with her studies managed to co-author two published scientific articles and discover in 1998, a simple method to demonstrate the enzymatic production of hydrogen from sugar)- participated in a science contest in which she was selected as a semifinalist. She has one of the highest IQs in Hollywood, with an approximate IQ of 175. She has a high capacity for scientific and mathematical analysis, as well as an eidetic memory. Also one of the actresses I consider emblematic of "The Big Bang Theory" Series - ✓ Mayim Bialik is a doctor, actress and writer. She holds a Ph.D in Neuroscience, a graduate of UCLA. She has written several books on emotional changes in children and their relationship with their parents. amazing!

Woman, God created you in the image and likeness of man, from the rib of man, for his equal, not to be trampled or belittled. We are intelligent, brave, powerful, creative, fighters, independent, we create life within our bodies, we endure pain and sorrow for our children, we are also mothers and fathers, we are the fundamental pillar of the dream of a society where our rights are respected in favor of equality. I always repeat to my friends and family that they should stand up for themselves, empower themselves, not depend on anyone, be genuinely happy and not be tied to anything they can lose. In Venezuela, even though I had a job, I sold thousands of things like cookies, cakes, costume jewelry, makeup, among others; to be able to always afford my needs and luxuries while I studied and worked in the chemical industry. I never looked for a partner because of his physical appearance, but that he would treat me well and as I deserved. Of course, I never bought a piece of land 🤭 to build a house, but I was able to save in order to leave the country to have a dignified and peaceful life, so I could also help my family, which is the most important thing for me.

"Look in the mirror, the woman you admire is inside you"

What a awesome title! And, what a great post! Your mention of the textile factory fire, as well as citing quite a few examples of strong women including your mother, was awesome! 💜

Wow, I never knew that about Natalie Portman! Both you and your mother are very inspiring. Yes, it is very important as women that we empower ourselves so that we are not dependent on anyone else.

I was surprised to read that about Natalie Portman, too! 😃

And I had the best example in my mother. Actually, from all the women in my family who have always worked and have shown us that we have to stand on our own two feet. And there is nothing nicer than to always give them back all their support and love by helping them because of the situation that my country, Venezuela 🇻🇪, is going through today. And thanks to this platform I can do it and that makes me proud.

Absolutely! My mother has always been a very hard worker as well. As a teacher, she was always the first to arrive at work in the morning and the last to leave. Even after retirement, she has remained active in her community.

I am very pleased. I think our mothers are the best example of perseverance there is. Greetings @katiecat1111 ❤️✨

Thanks for sharing your experience with us!
