¡Hola a todos! Durante muchos años he estado trabajando para otras personas, así que mi meta es cambiar eso por completo, es decir, que mis mayores ingresos provengan de mi emprendimiento personal.
Hello everybody! For many years I have been working for other people, so my goal is to change that completely, that is, that my greatest income comes from my personal endeavor.
¿Cuál es el cambio más grande que quieres en tu vida?
En este caso, ganar dinero como ilustradora freelancer. Estuve un tiempo viviendo del dibujo tradicional para una empresa, pero me di cuenta de que es mucho más lucrativo el dibujo digital. Conozco una amiga que vive en la misma región que yo y vive totalmente del dibujo digital. Así que tomándola como ejemplo, me decidí a hacer el cambio.
Porque hace menos de un mes comencé, di el primer paso y no fue nada fácil. Renuncié a uno de mis trabajos (el del turno de la mañana), para poder tener tiempo para dedicárselo al dibujo. En éste trabajo me ganaba la vida dibujando y pintando, pero aparte que no me daban el mérito que merecía, era muy limitativo, tanto que estaba provocando que mi imaginación artística se mermara. Fue así como me aventuré a dejar ese trabajo de años y aquí estoy dibujando por mi cuenta.
What is the biggest change you want in your life?
In this case, earn money as a freelance illustrator. I lived for a while from traditional drawing for a company, but I realized that digital drawing is much more lucrative. I know a friend who lives in the same region as me and lives entirely from digital drawing. So taking her as an example, I decided to make the switch.
Because less than a month ago I started, I took the first step and it was not easy at all. I quit one of my jobs (the morning shift) so I could have time to dedicate to drawing. In this job I made a living drawing and painting, but apart from the fact that they did not give me the merit I deserved, it was very limiting, so much so that it was causing my artistic imagination to diminish. That is how I ventured to leave that job of years and here I am drawing on my own.

Ser una ilustradora no es nada sencillo, el mercado está lleno de dibujantes increíbles y como todo este tiempo, lo dediqué por completo al trabajo que dejé, no practiqué mucho que se diga ni de dibujo tradicional ni digital para mí. No es que dibuje mal, pero mi trabajo por los momentos no recibe tanta atención. He hecho unas cuantas comisiones por mi lado (trabajos de dibujo) pero han sido por contactos de conocidos, mi meta es que gente de afuera se encanten con mi trabajo, tanto que deseen que les ilustre algo.
Being an illustrator is not easy at all, the market is full of incredible artists and like all this time, I dedicated myself completely to the work that I left, I did not practice much that is said about traditional or digital drawing for me. It is not that I draw badly, but my work at the moment does not receive as much attention. I have made a few commissions on my side (drawing work) but they have been through contacts with acquaintances, my goal is that people from outside love my work, so much that they want me to illustrate something.

¿Cómo planeo lograr mi objetivo?
Ya que ahora dispongo de un poco de tiempo libre, estoy dedicándoselo a mi crecimiento como ilustradora. Para ello, estoy tomando en cuenta lo siguiente:
How do I plan to achieve my goal?
Since I now have some free time, I am dedicating it to my growth as an illustrator. For this, I am taking into account the following:
1) Redes Sociales: Anteriormente tenía todas mis cuentas de redes sociales abandonadas, por las que ahora estoy buscando de ser más activa, para darme a conocer. Trato de subir material diario o semanalmente y contestar cualquier comentario. Estoy al tanto de las paginas en donde gente suele buscar ilustradores y comparto mi lista de precios si el trabajo me parece adecuado para mí. De igual forma, trato de no perderme en el ocio de las redes sociales y las utilizo sólo para dar a conocer mi material o para buscar tutoriales o tips de otros artistas.
1) Social Networks: Previously I had all my social network accounts abandoned, for which now I am looking to be more active, to make myself known. I try to upload material daily or weekly and answer any comments. I am aware of the pages where people usually look for illustrators and share my price list if the work seems suitable for me. In the same way, I try not to lose myself in the leisure of social networks and I use them only to publicize my material or to look for tutorials or tips from other artists.
Hablando de otros artistas, pienso que es muy importante conocer gente que comparta la misma proyección que tú, así que también estoy intentando formar lazos en comunidades de dibujo. Aunque hasta los momentos no me es sencillo por la falta de tiempo y porque no soy muy buenas socializando. Pero sé que poco a poco hallaré mi lugar.
Speaking of other artists, I think it is very important to meet people who share the same projection as you, so I am also trying to form ties in drawing communities. Although so far it is not easy for me due to lack of time and because I am not very good at socializing. But I know that little by little I will find my place.
2) Espacio de trabajo: Actualmente estoy residenciada con mi novio y mi gato en un pequeño cuarto. No hay mucho espacio que se diga y la mesa con la que se cuenta, es la destinada al trabajo principal de mi novio y mío (el que nos mantiene), así que, le pedí a mi hermana que me trajera una pequeña mesa plegable que tenía en casa y cuando voy a dibujar, la coloco sobre la cama. Mis cosas de dibujo están en una caja, así que saco lo principal y lo pongo igualmente en la cama... lo sé, parece incómodo, pero me hace feliz poder dibujar lo que quiero, tanto que olvido la incomodidad.
2) Workspace: I am currently living with my boyfriend and my cat in a small room. There is not much space to be said and the table that is available is the one for my boyfriend and my main work (the one that supports us), so, I asked my sister to bring me a small folding table that I had it at home and when I go to draw, I put it on the bed. My drawing things are in a box, so I take out the main thing and put it on the bed anyway ... I know, it seems uncomfortable, but it makes me happy to be able to draw what I want, so much that I forget the discomfort.

Como no hay mucha iluminación en donde estoy, arreglaré una lámpara que también me trajo mi hermana y que estaba en mi cuarto llevando polvo. Más adelante adquiriré una mesa más grande con su silla y una lámpara que sea flexible. Tengo algunos materiales de dibujo, pero iré comprando más a medida que vaya implementando nuevas técnicas de dibujo tradicional.
En cuanto al dibujo digital, espero poder comprarme una tableta gráfica profesional para poder mejorar la calidad de mis trazos. Hasta los momentos, continuaré utilizando mi teléfono.
As there is not much lighting where I am, I will fix a lamp that my sister also brought me and that was in my room carrying dust. Later I will acquire a larger table with its chair and a lamp that is flexible. I have some drawing supplies, but I will buy more as I implement new traditional drawing techniques.
As for digital drawing, I hope I can buy a professional graphics tablet to improve the quality of my strokes. Until now, I will continue to use my phone.
3) Tiempo: Aún no me he organizado como quisiera dado que estoy a cargo de realizar las comidas, pero, para utilizar el poco tiempo que tengo antes de empezar mi trabajo de la tarde, procuraré hacer un cronograma donde estableceré el horario para cada actividad. De igual forma, pienso en establecer una especie de menú, para poder adquirir las cosas que necesitaré comprar en la semana en vez de ir a comprar a diario (cosa que me quita tiempo)
3) Time: I have not yet organized as I would like since I am in charge of making the meals, but, to use the little time I have before starting my afternoon work, I will try to make a schedule where I will establish the schedule for each activity. In the same way, I think about establishing a kind of menu, to be able to acquire the things that I will need to buy in the week instead of going to buy daily (which takes time away from me)
4) Descanso: Como no soy una máquina, necesito también pensar en mi tiempo de relax. Para ello pienso implementar por lo menos media hora de juego diario. Tengo un Nintendo Ds Lite que casi no uso por sólo pensar en trabajar. Hay un juego muy interesante llamado Academia de Arte, donde puedes hacer dibujos digitales y aprender técnicas de pintura. Pienso, que de aplicarme, podría ganar conocimiento jugando.
4) Rest: As I am not a machine, I also need to think about my relaxation time. For this I plan to implement at least half an hour of daily play. I have a Nintendo Ds Lite that I hardly use just thinking about working. There is a very interesting game called Art Academy, where you can make digital drawings and learn painting techniques. I think that if I apply myself, I could gain knowledge by playing.
También, para implementar en nuestras vidas más horas de descanso. desde hace un par de días, mi novio y yo hemos cambiado la hora de dormir. Anteriormente nos acostábamos a media noche o pasadas y al levantarnos a las siete, sentíamos que estábamos igual de cansados. La idea es acostarnos a las diez de la noche, máximo diez y media, para que nuestras mentes descansen lo suficiente para la jornada del día siguiente.
Also, to implement more hours of rest in our lives. for a couple of days, my boyfriend and I have changed bedtime. Previously, we went to bed at midnight or after and when we got up at seven, we felt that we were just as tired. The idea is to go to bed at ten o'clock at night, maximum ten thirty, so that our minds can rest enough for the next day's work.
5) Practica, practica y más practica: Esta es la parte más importante. Si quiero que mis ilustraciones traigan clientes, deben cumplir con los estándares del mercado. Sé que no debo presionarme con mejorar de la noche a la mañana, por lo que, simplemente me sentaré a dibujar como lo he estado haciendo, ya que sé que paulatinamente iré mejorando.
5) Practice, practice and more practice: This is the most important part. If I want my illustrations to bring clients, they must meet market standards. I know that I should not pressure myself to improve overnight, so I will just sit and draw as I have been doing, since I know that I will gradually improve.
6) No infravalorarme: En el pasado, se aprovecharon mucho de mí porque no sabía el valor de mi esfuerzo. Ahora sé que mi trabajo vale y sin importar nada, debo mantener eso presente. Trato de realizar las cotizaciones de mis dibujos dependiendo de la comparacion que hago con otros artistas de mi nivel.
6) Don't underestimate me: In the past, I was taken a lot of advantage by because I didn't know the value of my effort. Now I know that my work is worth it and no matter what, I must keep that in mind. I try to make quotes for my drawings depending on the comparison I make with other artists of my level.
7) Seguir aprendiendo: Sé que hay mucho que no sé y ese es el primer paso ja ja para evitar frustrarme o saturarme de información, trato de buscar sólo lo que necesite en el momento y si investigo sobre alguna técnica, trato de ponerla en práctica y ver como funciona. De igual manera, me inscribí junto con una amiga en la universidad, más precisamente en la carrera de Artes plásticas. Este será un gran reto para mí, ya que hace años me gradué de Analista de Sistemas, una carrera que nada tiene que ver con el dibujo, así que espero aprender nuevas técnicas que me hagan crecer como dibujante, pulir mis habilidades y hacer amigos artistas.
7) Keep learning: I know there is a lot that I don't know and that is the first step ha ha to avoid getting frustrated or saturated with information, I try to find only what I need at the moment and if I investigate any technique, I try to put it into practice and see how it works. In the same way, I enrolled with a friend in the university, more precisely in the career of Visual Arts. This will be a great challenge for me, since years ago I graduated as a Systems Analyst, a career that has nothing to do with drawing, so I hope to learn new techniques that will make me grow as a draftsman, polish my skills and make artist friends. .
Me siento muy emocionada con el gran cambio que ha dado mi vida comparada con unos meses atrás, siento que tengo mucho por hacer, pero tengo la confianza de que todo saldrá bien. Espero poder amoldarme a mi nueva estrategia para poder llegar a ser una artista freelancer bien pagada y, que ese trabajo sea mi sustento principal.
I feel very excited with the great change that my life has given compared to a few months ago, I feel that I have a lot to do, but I am confident that everything will turn out well. I hope that I can adapt to my new strategy so that I can become a well-paid freelance artist and that this work is my main livelihood.
