Today in the US we celebrated Thanksgiving, an annual day to feast and celebrate all the things we are thankful for. It also marks the beginning of the Christmas season, perhaps the worst time of year.
I'll get to that.
But first, gratitude. We celebrate what we are thankful for by eating gobs and gobs of food. Honestly I am grateful for food. Money's been tight lately, and I was a bit worried I wouldn't be able to get food for the day. But I sucked it up and bought a pretty decent feast of turkey, stuffing, and veggies. Rice and gravy finished off the ensemble.
I am grateful that I have a home, a job, and my health for the most part. I am grateful that while life is stressful at times, it's not nearly as bad as it could be. Sometimes I think I stress out too much over silly stuff. I'm not suffering as much as my anxiety would like me to think. That guy's a jerk.
As for the Christmas season... I fall between wanting to be a festive person and bah humbug. We probably all do actually. I wish the holidays were something other than bittersweet but I can't remember ever having a good Christmas. I realize that sounds like hyperbole, but my childhood was pretty poor, and once I grew up I married someone who absolutely loathed the holiday for reasons I still can't put a finger on.
I'm not convinced this one will be much better. For various reasons I am already dreading it. I tried to be festive after my ex wife left me. But it didn't stick. It's a holiday filled with triggering memories. And my family literally all live in one big house, so it's always a bit of chaos to visit, even outside of big events. Hopefully there is sufficient alcohol at my family's house this year to keep my mind chilled out.
At least I have found a camera shop near my parent's place that could be cool to check out. Horray for hobbies!
