This is my entry for #thaiphotocontest84 on yellow photography hosted by @thaiteam. I try to participate in Thai community contest as much as I could; depending on the available photos which will match the theme of the contest. It’s good to see several people coming back to posting once again. It must have been quite difficult for the Thai admin to try to come up with interesting contest each week. Luckily, I have some photos from the morning market in Nongkhai for this post.
On religious days in Buddhist tradition, older generations of local people would go to make merits at temples in the morning. “Making merits” means going to offer food, sweets and flowers to monks at their favourite temples. For those who have time, they would join in the morning chanting with the monks in the main hall of the temple. Buddhists believe that doing these good karma would bring positive results to their lives. And it is a good idea to accumulate good karma or merits to support oneself in time of bad luck so that things won’t turn out so bad.
After the ceremony, monks will give blessing prayers so that people could spread or send the result of their good karma to dead relatives’ spirits so that they could have a better reincarnation in next life. We would perform this ceremony for dead loved ones every seven days up to seven weeks. The end of forty-nine days, earth time,the dead ones’ spirits would have finished their transition period and traveled into the next dimension. This could mean a new reincarnation back on earth or a period of long sojourn in other higher dimension. According to Buddhist scriptures, there are about sixteen dimensions above the earth dimension, and a few lower dimensions below earth dimension for those with very bad karma. The language of this text is very difficult to read as they are mostly in Pali jargons. I often had to ask a learned monk to explain all the jargons to me; so please excuse me if I could not even recall all the specific names of all the dimensions.
The concept of time is also quite confusing as each dimension has a different measurement for time! For example, if I were to have the permission to visit my dead niece in another dimension, while I asked for a three hours’ visit. It would turn out that I only had a few minutes of meeting with my niece because three hours on earth is about ten minutes up there. Time is much slower or longer in the other dimension. So, it’s important to request much longer earth’s time when one is allowed a visit loved ones in the other realm.
The Buddhist text also described the outer space, black hole and aliens; though these were given a different sets of vocabularies. Quantum physics was already described in the text too. Many years ago, I had a collection of Buddhist textbooks translated from the old language into German language which then were translated into English by top scholars in the field. That’s when I learned how serious these Western scholars were so interested in Buddhism. The scientific and objective approach to Buddhism impressed me deeply and that has helped me in understanding the teaching without being superstitious. But the ultimate goal of understanding should be through meditation and inner contemplation. Knowledge which are words are not the same as the actual knowledge; the only way to really see ‘what is’ in the spiritual sense is to see without thought.
I have got many acquaintances who hold on to the words of wisdom without being able to see or feel the actual, instead they are attached to the tokens or symbols. The mind needs to be calm and empty to perceive that which is beyond the conditioned or the known. I find quiet moments very precious so I try not waste my time and energy on wasteful activities. There is not enough time for me to do all the things that needed to be done in this life time.
วันนี้เราค้นหารูปสำหรับเข้าร่วมประกวดภาพถ่ายสีเหลืองได้ เราก็ดีใจมากท่ีเจอภาพจากตลาดเช้าที่หนองคาย พอดีวันนั้นเป็นวันพระ ในตลาดจึงมีดอกไม้สีเหลืองมาวางขายในตอนเช้า เราขอเขาถ่ายรูปเพราะดอกไม้ดูสดชื่นมาก และเราก็ได้ซื้อพวงมาลัยกลับไปถวายเจ้าที่เจ้าทางที่บ้านสวน คนขายใจดีและมีอารมณ์ดีด้วย เราก็ถ่ายรูปด้วยความสบายใจ เราชอบดอกดาวเรืองมาก เราอยากจะมีสวนดอกดาวเรืองของตนเองสักวันหนึ่ง แต่ต้องรอให้เรามีเวลาดูแลสวนมากกว่านี้ในอนาคต
ในต่างจังหวัดทุกวันพระ คนสูงอายุและคนที่ชอบไปวัดจะพากันไปทำบุญที่วัดใกล้บ้าน เราเห็นคนเฒ่าคนแก่ห่มขาวไปถวายอาหารเช้าที่วัด และสวดมนต์ทำวัตรเช้ากับพระในโบสถ์ด้วย ทำให้เราอยากมีโอกาสเช่นนี้บ้าง แต่เราคงไม่สะดวกในช่วงนี้ เราต้องมาจัดการแบ่งเวลา หรือจัดตารางเวลาของกิจกรรมในแต่ละวันให้มีระเบียบมากกว่านี้ ถ้าเรามีตารางเวลาเหมือนพระในวัดที่เราเคยไปปฎิบัติธรรมได้ ก็คงจะดีไม่น้อย เราคิดว่าการมีวันพระ ให้คนได้เข้าวัดทำบุญสวดมนต์ไหว้พระ ก็ดีมากเพราะเราจะไปมีโอกาสทำความดีสั่งสมไว้ และสามารถทำบุญให้ญาติที่เสียไปแล้ว เพื่อที่วิญญาณเขาจะได้อานิสงส์ด้วย
เราเชื่อว่าเรื่องภพภูมิต่างๆนั้นมีจริง อาจจะเป็นเพราะเราเคยนั่งสมาธิและสามารถสัมผัสสิ่งที่เหนือมิตินี้ และเราได้เห็นและรับรู้หลายสิ่งหลายอย่างที่ไม่ใช่ในมิตินี้ ทำให้เราค้นหาความรู้และหนังสือมาอ่านเพื่อสืบค้นให้ลึกลงไปอีก แต่เราสรุปว่าการนั่งสมาธิเท่านั้น ที่จะช่วยให้เราเข้าใจธรรมะได้อย่างชัดเจนถ่องแท้ เราอยากมีระบบการจัดเวลาให้ดีกว่านี้ เพื่อเราจะได้เริ่มทำสมาธิอย่างสม่ำเสมอเหมือนในอดีต ตอนนี้ก็เดินสมาธิและสวดมนต์ไปก่อน
