HOW TO INCREASE OUR USERS RETENTION: start by Removing that stupid CURVE and the "Dust Haircut"

in HODL3 years ago

I am really happy to see that there are influencing people talking about the possibility of removing the Stupid Curation Reward Curve that was implemented in one of the last HF of STEEM, few months before the "Birth" of HIVE.

Currently, according to @penguinpablo site, your precious upvote is worth much more if you use it on a post or comment that has already accumulated $2...

Obviously, this threshold used to be higher a few weeks ago but, since the HIVE price keeps tanking and the activity as well, I guess we may see it even lower...
This is not an advantage, this is just a consequence of the current economical performance of HIVE.

Upvoting on a post rewarded below that threshold, you risk to lose almost -15% on curation rewards while if you do on a post already earning 10$, your upvote simply get till +20% .

In my opinion, this Stupid Rewarding Curve combined with the another stupid parameter AKA "Dust haircut" are discouraging engagement in the blockchain which finally end on a low retention index.

Oh, well, still you don't know what the "Dust haircut" is?
It is simply that a pending payout less than $0.02 is not paid out, which is called dust payout.
Basically, don't expect to get any reward if your post or comment it's actually $0.019.

That's the reason why I try to upvote my commentators with an upvote at least higher than 0.02$ if I think the comment and interaction worth so. The problem is that I am "wasting" the chance to use my upvote on a comment or a post which has already passed the $2 threshold of the rewarding curve, so... yes, I am risking double since I could blindly upvote a more popular post without even reading it.

At the end of the day, I think, these two measures only deviate the attention and interest towards some accounts which, for the same type of content and quality, used to get highers rewards than the rest of the normal humans.

Newcomers arrive to HIVE, spend quite a lot of time trying to attract some attention and, at the same time, also understanding how HIVE blockchain works... After struggling for some time, they resign and quit, frustrated = WE FAIL AGAIN.

Remember on 2017? there were no Dust Haircut neither Rewarding Curve...I know, there were bidbots and selfvoters...but also we did not have downvotes.

Since we can use downvotes in order to fight against abusers, why we should keep those stupid restrictions for the most important action of this blockchain?

We need to attract investors, but more urgently USERS and we MUST RETAIN THEM.

Removing constraints like the ones described here is a mandatory task IMO.

I can say that I have been severely punished for this. I still don't care. I want to vote the way I want on what I want. That is the most important part about manual curation IMO.

I'm in a position to vote above $0.02 and I do it almost habitually missing out on the bigger rewards from different kind of voting.

Same here but many others do not care about it.

At least @leofinance made some changes to eradicate some of these autovoter advantages. (I still use autovoting to make sure my VP doesn't reach 100%. But majority of my votes are manually curated)

Very nice post, @toofasteddie! Definitely HIVE need some improvements on the rewarding system. But to be honest, I use other platforms where you can earn crypto for writing posts, uploading videos, etc. And when I use them I understand how bad their rewarding system is and how sophisticated the rewarding system of HIVE is. And this makes me really a big optimist about HIVE.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts mate, I really think we can refine the system

You are absolutely right. Hive still failed to attract investors. Atleast hive community should promote monthly #SPUD program with a big Giveaway of 500k liquid hive and 5 million hive power delegation. Lot of crypto investors just lost their money investing in scam project wheather they have no idea about hive. Hive is still a private community we should make it public. Need lot of promotion to grow this community.

Auto votes and self votes should fly away in my opinion as well. It's a community made by humans, not robots. I don't know if leo has auto voting but I hope it doesn't.

Of course it has!
Leo is built on top of the HIVE Blockchain, the only you have to do is set a HIVE account, delegate LEO to it and set an autovote of that account on some prolific LEO authors.
But, LEO does not have a Rewarding curve algorithm neither a Dust haircut.
You don't have to worry about that because anyway, you will get always 50% of your voting power. LEO has FLAT REWARDS algorithm which means that time is not a problem as far as you upvote within the 7 days pay-out period.

I see. I was hoping Leo doesn't has auto vote. Not a fan...
