RE: AI Wouldn't Choose You

in Reflections11 days ago

I didn't even read the initial post until now, as I said the name, way it was promoted and general history and exp with those things is going to automatically turn people off. I see now it didn't have the usual intentions but the idea is to generate upvotes based on ad revenue. There should still be some thought towards who receives the votes however cause there's already a lot of "bad curation" happening on here.

Thanks a lot for reading up on it and your feedback. Maybe I rushed things a little, but I wanted to get something out quickly to generate experience and gather feedback. There's of course a lot of aspects of the service that will need adjusting over time, but for now I thought just being able to request and upvote could be incentive to visit the website. I'm aware there will have to be captchas and whatnot to prevent bots from spamming, but otoh the network will prevent the service from spamming due to lack of RC / voting power if used too heavily.

I've been thinking about how to use the service to better curate content, but decided to keep it incredibly simple at the beginning and not overcomplicate things.

I know there's a lot of history on this blockchain with a lot of exploitative behavior (like anywhere where there's "free" money) so everybody is super skeptical about things, but there should also be room for people who are new to experiment with things without being shot down without further explanation (it's very demotivating, to say the least).

Anyway, thanks for your insights, I'll be iterating.

Yeah, I guess using the word "free upvote" did trigger a few people, myself included - along with all the other things.

How does this work anyway? Are you instantly able to generate some value from people viewing the ads or is it all based on clicks only?

Maybe there's something to this if you'd be open to pairing it up with an actual curation service, where all the posts wouldn't be guaranteed to be curated but at least considered. Then again the next question is what happens with the HP you'd power up from ad revenue, is it just yours? etc.

I could be interested in this depending on how it works in the backend and how it's operated if you'd be up for sharing more info and maybe applying it to an existing website such as POSH or something of that nature.

Sorry for the late reply and thanks again for digging deeper here.

Concerning the revenue:
Right now, I'm trying out different ad networks. Many of them require a bit of traction and / or a certain amount of functionality, so I need to take this step by step to a certain extent. One of the networks that's already active supposedly pays on a CPM basis, so anyone visiting the website should basically already contribute to revenue flowing in, even if it's not a lot. Other networks will work on a CPC basis, so I'll have to try out and balance things. I'm still waiting for the first ad revenue to be paid out.
Likewise, for the affiliate links, they typically require a minimum withdrawal amount, so I'm yet to see how much revenue can be generated there.

Regarding the HP that will eventually be generated from both revenue and from curation rewards, I didn't want to overcomplicate things at first, either. I don't plan to power down any of it at any point, but it's clear that users and people from the community will be interested in what's planned with the HP. The longer answer that, in case this is successful, I can eventually open this up as kind of a DAO, since the whole thing isn't meant to make money for me, but to contribute to the community. Otoh, I need to consider taxes, which currently isn't really a thing due to the low revenue, but of course might become an issue down the line.

Regarding the setup of the current app and potential integrations:
I'm totally up for some integrations. Of course, the whole value loop of the app relies on visitors of the website (as of now), since I deliberately didn't want to rely on anything related to voting or curation rewards. So whatever I do should somehow have the potential of sending people to the website to increase traffic, and therefore revenue. I'll spend some time looking into a few services like POSH and thinking about potential integrations there.
