A walk among the scent of flowers – Una passeggiata tra il profumo dei fiori

ENG

Good morning everyone,

Today I would like to share with you some photos taken during a beautiful walk in the botanical garden of the city of Bologna, in the Emilia-Romagna region (northern Italy). It’s a garden that immediately remained in my heart, as it hosts several varieties of rare and interesting plants. The walk takes place completely in the shade of large trees, so it is very pleasant to shelter from the hot temperatures of Italian August.

But first let's talk a bit of history!
The botanical garden of my city has very ancient origins. In fact, it was founded in 1568 by Ulisse Aldrovandi (1522-1605), an important local naturalist scientist. The first site of this garden was located in the center of the city, in a courtyard of a public building which is now occupied by the library: medicinal plants, both Italian and exotic, were grown here for teaching medicine. With the advent of the Napoleonic period, the garden was decentralized to its current location. The main promoter of the establishment of this beautiful garden was Napoleon himself who, in June 1805, visited Bologna, its university, the Academy of Fine Arts and took care to guarantee the financing of the botanical garden. The current architectural structure was, however, consolidated in the twentieth century, thanks to the work of Edoardo Collamarini (1863-1928), a well-known architect from Bologna who built the building decorated with numerous frescoes and a bas-relief that today houses the University of Natural Science.

I hope you like my photos, let me know what you think! Thanks for stopping by on my blog.

Buongiorno a tutti,
