Happy New Year 2021 to all my dear photography lovers
Finalmente termino el 2020, un año difícil y de muchas pruebas para la raza humana a nivel mundial, pero debemos reconocer que también nos dejó muchas enseñanzas. Para iniciar este nuevo año les traigo una pequeña sorpresa que llego a mi hogar en una noche cálida del recién terminado año.
Finally, 2020 ended, a difficult year with many trials for the human race worldwide, but we must recognize that it also left us with many teachings. To start this new year I bring you a little surprise that arrived to my home in a warm night of the just finished year.
Como pueden ver, se trata de un lindo Saltamontes que se metió a mi casita, lo encontré colgado de la lámpara de la sala. Y al parecer, le gustaba posar porque se quedó muy quietecito mientras lo fotografiaba.
As you can see, it's a nice Grasshopper that got into my little house, I found it hanging from the lamp in the living room. And apparently, he liked to pose because he stood very still while I photographed him.
Por lo que pude investigar, la denominación Saltamontes se le da de forma común a un gran grupo de insectos conocidos a nivel científico como ortópteros. Incluye un gran número de géneros disímiles, aunque todos poseen unas fuertes y largas patas posteriores que le permiten saltar muy alto y lejos.
From what I could research, the name Grasshopper is commonly given to a large group of insects known scientifically as Orthoptera. It includes a large number of dissimilar genera, although all possess strong and long hind legs that allow them to jump very high and far.
Estoy segura que estos amiguitos a más de uno de ustedes los ha desvelado con el peculiar ruido que hacen los machos al frotar sus patas. En cuanto a su tamaño, varía muchísimo, van desde alcanzar pocos milímetros, hasta llegar algunos a medir 15 cm. Su vida media, es muy corta, como máximo viven 11 semanas.
I am sure that these little friends have revealed more than one of you with the peculiar noise that the males make when they rub their legs. As for their size, it varies a lot, ranging from a few millimeters, to some as long as 15 cm. Their average life span is very short, they live a maximum of 11 weeks.
Son de costumbres diurnas y su alimentación es fundamentalmente herbívora, los podemos encontrar en casi cualquier lugar del mundo, habitando principalmente en prados y bosques. Aunque, también los podemos ver en nuestros jardines, incluso viviendo entre las paredes de nuestras casas.
They are of diurnal customs and their feeding is fundamentally herbivorous, we can find them in almost any place of the world, inhabiting mainly in meadows and forests. Although, we can also see them in our gardens, even living within the walls of our houses.
No poseen colores muy llamativos, los podemos encontrar en la gama de los colores verdes, amarillos, marrones, negros, pudiendo ser unicolor o con manchas. Eso sí, su pigmentación siempre les ayuda a camuflarse dentro de su entorno, protegiéndolos de sus depredadores.
They do not have very striking colors, we can find them in the range of green, yellow, brown, black, and can be unicolor or spotted. However, their pigmentation always helps them to camouflage themselves within their environment, protecting them from predators.
Un aspecto muy curioso de estos bichitos, es que, aunque sus prominentes ojos le proveen de una visión general del mundo que los rodea, el verdadero contacto con su entorno lo tienen a través de sus antenas. Son realmente geniales, además de permitirles orientarse y detectar posibles amenazas, con ellas pueden oler la comida, incluso sentir su sabor, ya que poseen papilas gustativas, es más, con ellas pueden hasta percibir la humedad y la temperatura.
A very curious aspect of these bugs is that, although their prominent eyes provide an overview of the world around them, the real contact with their environment is through their antennas. They are really great, besides allowing them to orient themselves and detect possible threats, with them they can smell food, even feel its taste, since they have taste buds, what's more, with them they can even perceive humidity and temperature.
