Definitivamente, el mundo de las flores es sencillamente extraordinario, es asombrosa la cantidad de especies, caracterizada por la diversidad en belleza y colores. La flor que en esta oportunidad les traigo, resalta significativamente, por la delicadeza de su forma y por sus maravillosos colores, logrando con ello, ganarse el corazón de muchos, alrededor del mundo. Sin más preámbulos, les presento a la planta herbácea perteneciente a la familia de las Caryophyllaceae, popularmente conocida como Clavel, o Clavelina, aunque su nombre botánico es Dianthus Caryophyllus.
Definitely, the world of flowers is simply extraordinary, it is amazing the amount of species, characterized by the diversity in beauty and colors. The flower that I bring you this time, stands out significantly, for the delicacy of its shape and for its wonderful colors, managing to win the hearts of many, around the world. Without further ado, I present the herbaceous plant belonging to the Caryophyllaceae family, popularly known as Carnation, or Clavelina, although its botanical name is Dianthus Caryophyllus.
Los orígenes de los claveles, fundamentados en estudios científicos, se ubican en el mediterráneo, siendo parte significativa de la idiosincrasia de dos importantes culturas antiguas, la griega y la romana. Encontrándose, los primeros registros de esta flor en manifestaciones artísticas y religiosas, de esas dos antiguas civilizaciones. Incluso, se supones, que su nombre científico Dianthus, se lo debe a Theopharastus un filósofo griego de la antigüedad. Su significado es Flor de Dios y es producto de la conjunción de las palabras “Dia” que significa, Dios y “Anthos”, cuyo significado es flor. Además, existe una antigua leyenda relacionada con este nombre, donde se cuenta que el origen del primer clavel, se dio mientras Jesús Cristo, caminaba cargando la cruz rumbo a su crucifixión.
The origins of carnations, based on scientific studies, are located in the Mediterranean, being a significant part of the idiosyncrasy of two important ancient cultures, the Greek and Roman. The first records of this flower are found in artistic and religious manifestations of these two ancient civilizations. It is even supposed that its scientific name Dianthus is due to Theopharastus, a Greek philosopher of antiquity. Its meaning is Flower of God and is a product of the conjunction of the words "Dia" which means God and "Anthos", which means flower. In addition, there is an ancient legend related to this name, where it is said that the origin of the first carnation, occurred while Jesus Christ was walking carrying the cross towards his crucifixion.
Por otro lado, aunque se da por sentado su origen en Europa, donde incluso es la flor nacional de España y que se le atribuye al colonialismo europeo su diseminación a otros continentes. No es posible descartar el hecho, que también se han encontrado vestigios muy antiguos del uso esta planta herbácea, en la cultura milenaria China. Destacando, principalmente la utilización de la flor en la fabricación de perfumes, aunque también se le atribuyen propiedades medicinales. En cuanto a este tema, la medicina herbal, sostiene que la infusión de sus flores contribuye a estabilizar la presión arterial, al alivio de problemas digestivos, de cuadros nerviosos y a calmar la tos.
On the other hand, although its origin is taken for granted in Europe, where it is even the national flower of Spain and its dissemination to other continents is attributed to European colonialism. It is not possible to discard the fact that very ancient vestiges of the use of this herbaceous plant have also been found in the millenary Chinese culture. The flower is mainly used in the manufacture of perfumes, although medicinal properties are also attributed to it. Regarding this subject, herbal medicine maintains that the infusion of its flowers contributes to stabilize the blood pressure, to the relief of digestive problems, nervous conditions and to calm the cough.
En cuanto a su aspecto, a nivel general esta herbácea perenne, se caracteriza por poseer múltiples tallos leñosos de una altura que por lo general no supera los 60 cm. Por otro lado, sus rectas hojas son de color verdes, con una forma alargadas y estrechas, encontrándose dispuestas de forma contrapuestas. Ahora, respecto a sus fragantes flores, en el caso particular de la especie que hoy les traigo, poseen maravillosos y vistosos colores, que pueden ser unicolores o incluso matizados. Como pueden ver en las imágenes, sus pétalos, son ondulados con bordes relativamente dentados, lo que le otorga una hermosa apariencia vaporosa.
As for its appearance, in general this herbaceous perennial is characterized by multiple woody stems of a height that usually does not exceed 60 cm. On the other hand, its straight leaves are green, with an elongated and narrow shape, being arranged in a contrasting way. Now, regarding its fragrant flowers, in the particular case of the species that I bring you today, they have wonderful and showy colors, which can be unicolored or even shaded. As you can see in the images, its petals are wavy with relatively jagged edges, which gives it a beautiful vaporous appearance.
