Definitivamente la naturaleza es asombrosa, ¿no les parece? día tras días nos regala sus maravillosas creaciones, solo nos debemos detener un instante y mirar a nuestro alrededor y de seguro podremos disfrutar de alguno de ellos. La entrega de hoy es uno de esos hermosos regalos, la curiosa flor de una especie de Lirio conocida popularmente como Lirio Araña, por obvias razones, claro, su flor se asemeja mucho a alguna especie de arácnido.
Definitely nature is amazing, don't you think? day after day it gives us its wonderful creations, we just have to stop for a moment and look around us and we will surely enjoy one of them. Today's delivery is one of those beautiful gifts, the curious flower of a species of Lily popularly known as Spider Lily, for obvious reasons, of course, its flower resembles some kind of arachnid.
Otros nombres comunes, con los cuales también se le identifica a esta hermosa planta herbácea, que se caracteriza por tener preferencia por hábitat cálidos y soleados, son Flor de Araña, Arañuela, Flor de Estrella, Estrella de San Nicolás, Amole, Barbas de Gato y Cebolla Albarrana.
Other common names, with which this beautiful herbaceous plant, which is characterized by its preference for warm and sunny habitats, is also identified, are Spider flower, Spiderwort, Starflower, St. Nicholas Star, Amole, Cat's Beard and Albarrana Onion.
Esta es una planta bulbosa de tipo perenne que forma parte de la familia Amarilidáceas y una de las aproximadamente 50 especies que agrupa el género Hymenocallis Salisbury. Específicamente se le identifica en el entorno científico a esta especie oriunda de México, Guatemala, y de las zonas costeras más cálidas Latino América, con el nombre de Hymenocallis Littoralis.
This is a bulbous perennial plant that is part of the Amaryllidaceae family and one of the approximately 50 species of the genus Hymenocallis Salisbury. Specifically, it is identified in the scientific environment to this species native to Mexico, Guatemala, and the warmer coastal areas of Latin America, with the name of Hymenocallis Littoralis.
Como ya les comenté, el Lirio Araña es una planta que se caracteriza por desarrollar bulbo, el cual es subterráneo y puede llegar a medir entre 7 y 10 cm de diámetro. Por otro lado, su follaje llega a alcanzar máximo 2 metros de altura y está conformado por delgadas hojas basales de un color verde intenso. Las hojas, emergen en grupos de 2 a 16 en forma de roseta desde el bulbo, poseen forma de espadas, alcanzando a medir entre los 60 y 70 cm de largo y en cuanto al ancho más o menos 3 cm.
As I already mentioned, the Spider Lily is a plant that is characterized by developing a bulb, which is subway and can measure between 7 and 10 cm in diameter. On the other hand, its foliage reaches a maximum height of 2 meters and is made up of thin basal leaves of an intense green color. The leaves emerge in groups of 2 to 16 in rosette form from the bulb, are shaped like swords, reaching a length of 60 to 70 cm and width of about 3 cm.
Esta hierba perenne posee un gran valor ornamental, no solo debido a la exótica belleza de sus flores, sino también por su capacidad de adaptación. Es por ello que es muy común su uso, para el cultivo en bordes de carreteras, jardinerías, macetas e incluso en algunas ocasiones, se logra desarrollas en entornos acuáticos. Aunque, es necesario destacar que su ámbito natural, normalmente se encuentra en los litorales costeros, a eso es, que precisamente hace alusión el nombre “Littoralis”, que identifica específicamente a esta especie.
This perennial herb has a great ornamental value, not only due to the exotic beauty of its flowers, but also for its adaptability. That is why its use is very common, for the cultivation in roadsides, gardens, pots and even in some occasions, it can be developed in aquatic environments. Although, it is necessary to emphasize that its natural environment is normally found in coastal areas, that is precisely what the name "Littoralis" refers to, which specifically identifies this species.
Para finalizar, hablemos un poco de su floración, la cual suele ser numerosa, cada inflorescencia está conformada por una y hasta 18 exóticas y llamativas flores de gran tamaño. Las inflorescencias, se desarrollan en el extremo de un escapo floral, el cual, emerge directamente del bulbo. El grupo de flores, se encuentran dispuestas en una formación llamada umbrela, en donde todos los tallos florales se encuentran unidos en un mismo punto, que en este caso en la punta del escapo floral. Las flores, se caracterizan por ser hermafroditas y poseer forma de estrella, que no solo se destacan por su belleza, además, poseen un exquisito aroma avainillado. Por último, en cuanto a la gama de colores, básicamente las podemos encontrar en dos colores, blanco y amarillo.
Finally, let's talk a little about its flowering, which is usually numerous, each inflorescence consists of one and up to 18 exotic and striking large flowers. The inflorescences develop at the end of a floral scape, which emerges directly from the bulb. The group of flowers are arranged in a formation called umbrella, where all the flower stalks are united at the same point, in this case at the tip of the flower scape. The flowers are characterized by being hermaphrodite and star-shaped, which not only stand out for their beauty, but also have an exquisite vanilla aroma. Finally, as for the range of colors, basically we can find them in two colors, white and yellow.

Hola @francyrios75 me encantó tu post, muy informativo y de mucha calidad. Las fotos también hermosas. Una curiosidad, que no se si conocías la mayor parte de lo que conocemos comunmente como bulbo está formado tambíen por hojas engrosadas llamadas catáfilos. En las espcies de las familias Liliaceae y Amarillidacieae el tallo está extremadamente reducido y forma un disco compacto en la base de la planta en el que se originan tanto los catafilos como las reices y la gran mayoría del cuerpo de las plantas esta compuesto por hojas. Un detalle encaminado a lustrar tu publicación, si me permites el comentario los nombres científicos solo llevan mayusculas en el genérico, el epíteto específico se debe escribir en minúsculas.
