Saludos amigos del concurso “Amazing Nature Contest: FREE TOPIC”. Estas fotos que hoy comparto, (un campesino arreando un par de vacas en una carretera en la montaña) han venido rondándome en la cabeza desde hace ya unos días. En primer lugar, porque realmente me gustaron. Creo que la hora en que las tomé, con el sol llegando desde el frente, les dio un toque casi “artificial”, como si fuesen una ilustración o un comic pero estas fotos fueron captadas al natural sin ningún artificio, excepto claro está, la cámara de mi celular.
En segundo lugar, las fotos me condujeron a reflexiones más profundas, (especialmente en mi idea de usarlas para este concurso de la comunidad) en relación a las palabras: “NATURALEZA”, “NATURAL” y “HOMBRE”. Acercándome a estas desde los significados que les hemos asignado en nuestra lingüística española.
Fue así entonces, que decidí arriesgarme a usarlas como inspiración a una serie de reflexiones “cuasi-filosóficas” en torno al papel del hombre en su relación con la naturaleza y dónde comienzan o terminan sus límites.
La palabra “NATURALEZA” cono un comodín con infinidad de significados.
Aunque ya lo intuía, al revisar un diccionario en línea [1] me impresionó la cantidad de significados, acepciones y usos que le damos a dicha palabra. (Conté 18 usos de dicha palabra como sustantivo cada una con otras tantas acepciones y sinónimos). De los que destaco naturaleza como MUNDO físico y como PRINCIPIO.
NATURALEZA-NATURAL como nuestro mundo físico
Acá, “naturaleza” se refiere tanto al universo como a la célula, a nuestro planeta tierra, a lo tangible y material. El hombre mismo es parte de esa materia-energía universal, el hombre por tanto es natural.
NATURALEZA-NATURAL como PRINCIPIO, origen o esencia
Como Principio creador, usamos la palabra para referirnos al origen a la substancia misma que constituye la “naturaleza” y por extensión la VIDA. Nos remite a un creador o creadora, a la esencia misma de la tierra por ejemplo a la PACHAMAMA americana, a la GEA grecolatina o a El DIOS judío cristiano entre otros. Los limites borrosos de estos significados aparecen por ejemplo con la ingeniería genética o transgénica, como cuando el hombre crea nuevas “criaturas” manipulando el ADN natural.
En ese orden, también nos remite a la hibridación, (que naturalmente se da en la “naturaleza”) pero que el hombre ha nusado en la agricultura y la domesticación para crear nuevas especies.
El Hombre “Co-Creador” con la Naturaleza
Fue necesario crear el termino “NATURALEZA VIRGEN” para referirnos a aquellas partes del mundo físico con las cuales el hombre todavía no ha tocado, intervenido o cambiado. La imagen que esa última oración me genera es que el hombre siendo un ser natural, hala y empuja a la naturaleza hacia donde ella no necesariamente quiera dirigirse. El honbre se ha convertido en un enemigo de su propia naturaleza, de su esencia.

Greetings friends of the “Amazing Nature Contest: FREE TOPIC”. These photos that I share today, (a peasant herding a couple of cows on a mountain road) have been hanging around in my head for a few days now. First of all, because I really liked them. I think that the time I took them, with the sun coming from the front, gave them an almost "artificial" touch, as if they were an illustration or a comic, but these photos were captured naturally without any artifice, except of course, the my cell phone camera.
Secondly, the photos led me to deeper reflections, (especially in my idea of using them for this community contest) in relation to the words: “NATURE”, “NATURAL” and “MAN”. Approaching these from the meanings that we have assigned them in our Spanish linguistics.
It was thus, that I decided to take the risk of using them as inspiration for a series of "quasi-philosophical" reflections on the role of man in his relationship with nature and where his limits begin or end.
The word "NATURE" is a wild card with infinite meanings.
Although I already knew it, when checking an online dictionary [1] I was impressed by the number of meanings, meanings and uses that we give to this word. (I counted 18 uses of that word as a noun, each with as many meanings and synonyms). Of which I highlight nature as a physical WORLD and as PRINCIPLE.
NATURE-NATURAL as our physical world
Here, “nature” refers both to the universe and to the cell, to our planet earth, to the tangible and material. Man himself is part of that universal matter-energy, therefore man is natural.
NATURE-NATURAL as PRINCIPLE, origin or essence
As creative Principle, we use the word to refer to the origin of the very substance that constitutes "nature" and by extension LIFE. It refers us to a creator, to the very essence of the earth, for example to the American PACHAMAMA, to the Greco-Latin GEA or to the Christian Jewish GOD among others. The blurred limits of these meanings appear, for example, with genetic or transgenic engineering, as when man creates new "creatures" by manipulating natural DNA.
In that order, it also refers us to hybridization, (which naturally occurs in "nature") but that man has used agriculture and domestication to create new species.
The “Co-Creator” Man with Nature
It was necessary to create the term "VIRGIN NATURE" to refer to those parts of the physical world with which man has not yet touched, intervened or changed. The image that that last sentence generates in me is that man, being a natural being, pulls and pushes nature where it does not necessarily want to go. Man has become an enemy of his very nature, of his essence.

An interesting thought. I don't know if the "creators" of this world realized that by "creating" man, they brought something to the planet that can destroy what it needs to live.
