The Cape Doctor!

221.JPG

Here was the warning Halo signal and I want you to meet the terrible South Easter storm wind known as The Cape Doctor.

Best is to stay inside when this tree uprooting wind blows.

Yes, it can wreck forests and tip huge goods trucks over and have even been known to blow cars off mountain passes and highways.
A wind that has sunk many ships on the Cape coastline and yet, it can also save as it stemmed the recent destructive fire that we had over here.
So, I will show you some results of this wind.

Can you believe that there is a huge mountain inside that wind driven cloud?

This was the sight later in the afternoon.

Even the doves could only make short hurried flights.

Here is another shot of the morning sign as the wind started to pin the Palm tree's hair back.

Strange cloud streaks appeared chased by the wind.

Finally, late afternoon the wind withdrew itself.

The fire fighters won the battle against the fire overnight and today it was a beautiful hot wind still day.
There are amazing weather appearances here, but very little can hold a candle to the strength of that South Easter wind.
It can undress a person and I am glad that I don't wear a wig, else I would have to go and search for it in the ocean.

And That's All Friends!

Note: All photos are my own and taken with a Canon Powershot SX60HS Bridge camera.

We hope that you have enjoyed the pictures of the South Easter.

That South Easter sure can take you off your feet, perch you on the other side before you realize it has happened. Wicked gusting wind that whips everything in it's path into submission.

Amazing photography, when the cloud covers over like that it is stunning to witness.

Hope the firefighters all recover that were affected in the flames that flooded through over the weekend!

Stay safe, stay well....

That friend of ours in the Bain's Kloof pass showed us where the south easter crosses the mountain Lady Joan. They tried to build a Pine tree windbreaker line with hundreds of pine trees just below the peak along the length of the mountain that faces the wind.. Only the skeleton trees are still standing, as all of the other trees were ripped out root and all.

Glad that you liked the photos.

Yeah, we hear that 6 firefighters were injured, but thankfully the people can now return to their homes.

Blessings to you guys.

Pine trees drink too much ground water, fuel for fires wonder who thought that a good idea... Not sure what indigenous trees were there before, perhaps time to start planting.

Fire fighters take the brunt of these tasks, both in the air and on the ground, very special people in my eyes.

Have a swell day!

That peak was always bare and Pine trees are fast growers, so maybe some clever farmer wanted to cultivate a land below the peak.
So yes it was expensive skeletons standing there.

Yup, those fire fighters arec real heroes. Pity that our fire fighting departments are in such a shambolic state due to a lack of funding from government.

Blessings and !BEER

Pines are very difficult to remove with their seed spreading, up in the Drakensberg after a fire took two firefighters lives the removal has been tediously slow.

Needless to say teachers, nurses, policemen and firefighters all understaffed, underpaid and not respected for what they do! Added fuel to the fire was getting rid of those who were dedicated.

We are quite happy to be away from home at the moment and enjoying a surf trip in Mossel Bay and eventually JBay. Our little cottage in Kommetjie seems to catch the brunt of the South Easter when it’s up! Mossels has been very mild since we’ve been here. Glad the fires under control but they’d better keep a good eye on it!

Ah, Mossel Bay and I have a lot of history, as I was stationed at 1 SAI (Army) in Oudtshoorn and being from Johannesburg, I could never go home on weekend passes. So we spent a lot of time at Mossel Bay. But then again over a 2 year stint we cruised that whole coastline right up to Port Elizabeth.

The cape doctor also strikes us here in Somerset West, but thankfully not as bad as Gordons Bay.

A beautiful area and hope that you guys are enjoying your visit there.

Wow! This world is full of wonders. I love that first photo so much. The effect that the sky gave is amazing.

Thank you and yes, nature hides many secrets and it is up to us to learn about it.
Whenever that sun halo appears, it means that bad weather is on the way.

Such drama in the skies, staying indoors in the wind is a good idea
