Difficult Days For Our Queens.

in Amazing Nature4 years ago

During the summer, the most difficult moment comes that is, insert the queens into the cages.

As absurd and unloving as it may, this is the only way to combat the Varroa mite, which is the main cause of honey bee die in all countries of the world, except for the Asian continent, where the vorroa originated.

last queen caged yesterday

For about twenty years now the varroa has spread all over the world, many attempts have been made by researchers and beekeepers to curb this unstoppable parasite. But at the moment what you can do is just dab it. In fact, even today we have not been able to find a permanent solution. We will need to keep the queens in the cages for about 24 days. That is the time for all larvae to be born

But why is it important to put queens in a cage?

Varroa reproduces inside the small cells where the bees' eggs are laid. By interrupting this cycle and using an oxalic acid based solution, it will be possible to kill all the Varroe in forensic state. Therefore, since there is no varroe in a reproductive state, we will have an efficiency of almost 99%.

Thank you @EwkaW! :)

Ooo I've never heard of this before D: I just knew that bee population is endagered. Good luck!

yes there is not much talk about bee problems, but this mite is the most dangerous and problematic one, as well as transmitting diseases, it sucks the sap to bees, and causes many malformations during the birth of a new bee

Aww :( I just heard about huge pesticide problems, not sure how bad it's here, but they're starting to use more and more. At least a lot of worst pesticides seem to be banned in Europe.

yes they are banned, but being still in many warehouses of different companies, they are still used until the exhaustion stocks...

I hope your bees will be ok! Bees are wonderful tiny creature and the products which we have from them are a true gift. Have a great day!

yes fortunately my bees are fine, I spend a lot of time taking care of them, and for this reason they are in excellent health!

Ottimo lavoro. Un saluto a te e a tutte le apine :)

Epaaa! Gostei da ilustracao! Uma pergunta? Can and old queen colonize several hive?

no, there is a queen for every beehive, but every spring the families swarm, and a new family is created from the old queen

Absolutely interesting. i never knew there were parasites that killed bees. I definitely learnt something new! thanks for sharing with us!

I did not know of the existence of this parasite. Now I have learned that Varroa is an external parasitic mite that attacks bees.
