A Day Out at Fort Belle Fontaine

in Amazing Nature4 years ago (edited)

Yesterday I went out on a nature trail to enjoy the colors of the season and to get out of the house. I ended up going to Fort Belle Fontaine 9 miles from my house. This was such a hidden gem, the Coldwater Creek and Missouri River border the park so it has beautiful water views while walking the trails. The park is named after a fort that was established there in 1804, that is for another time and blog. It was a 3 mile trek on beautiful trails that were next to the water and winding through the hills and canopy of the trees.

There was so many varieties of trees that I encountered yesterday, tall and majestic beauties that have been growing for hundreds of years. I only recognized some of them like the black oak, the burr oak, American sycamore, black walnut and the river birch. As I walked through the trails the trees were giving up of their fruits, and I was being accosted by acorns and walnuts laughing and thinking the squirrels were rather upset for me disturbing them and their quest as they gather their stores up for winter.

For most of the walk it was quiet reflections and enjoying the
peace that only nature can give.

Lucky for me I encountered a few critters along my journey. Near the creek I found an eastern river cooter (I may well be wrong),a black rat snake (which took me by surprise). I was taking pictures of a wall that was being reclaimed by nature and when I came back to the trail there he was in his beauty and glory. Later as I was walking, I kept scaring a flock of crows they were always flying just ahead of me, so I took out my zoom lens and got pictures of them.

Coldwater Creek playfully picked up leaves and carried then down stream, some were caught by the rapids as if to say this would be a great photo if you choose.
