We've had ample rains and now with the warmer summer weather (hard to believe it's summer already and the days are starting to get shorter) the wildflowers are bursting into bloom.
There is lots of wild roses along the bush line which means to me there will be lots of rose hips for teas and such.

Speckled through out the forest floor is the lungwort with their interesting blooms that start as a pink color and then when they are fully open turn blue.

Another flower quite abundant in certain areas of the forest floor is the bunch berry.

One of the flowers that I am quite taken with is the vining honeysuckle blooms for I have fond memories of growing the honeysuckle vine as an ornamental in my yard.

Along the ditches of our country road there are lots of different wildflowers for they do not spray the ditches like they do along the highways.
There is an abundance of bedstraw coming up in the ditches especially where our neighbors have cut the grass. It's funny, some of my neighbors never left their city ways behind and want to keep the ditches on their property manicured looking like a lawn. Not me, I love the wildflowers and let it grow wild until the municipality does their once a year mowing of the ditches to keep any trees from growing up.
The bedstraw got it's name as it was used to stuff mattresses.

The pea vine is winding it's way among the other plants adding it's lovely purple color to the landscape.

I find the occasional Seneca snakeroot growing there.

Another wildflower that has a spike of blooms is the heuchera or alum root.

A cute flower that grow on the stalk of a grass is the blue eyed grass flower. There was an interestingly marked pollinator sucking on the nectar on one of the blooms.

I know it is summer when the wild tiger lilies begin to bloom and I saw my first one the other day - love the brilliant orange in the landscape. The tiger lily was growing among some dainty little star flowers.

And one last wildflower to share with you, a patch of pussy toes. I'm quite fascinated with the patches of silver their leaves create then their cute pussy toe like blooms.

On our acreage we had planted loads of lilacs and now they are mature and producing oddles of blooms they attract all sorts of insects. The ones that are most prevalent are the swallowtail butterfly.

Another butterfly that was starting to show up was the white admiral butterfly.

Another visitor to the lilacs was the fascinating hummingbird moth. It flies just like a hummingbird but is not quite as large and has clear wings.

This next picture shows the clear wings and the beautiful coloring on this moth.

The last insect I have to share with you is my friend the dragonfly. I call them my friend for they eat mosquitoes!

Another animal that eats mosquitoes is the frogs and we have plenty of them around our place. Here is a couple of them that were just by my steps.

Now for an update on the family of Canadian Geese I saw last week. They are getting quite big and are kind of gankly looking for they don't have their feathers yet.
I saw them as they were just coming out of the tall grasses by the pond and heading into the field to feed.
Look at the little wings on these fellows and to think that by fall they would have grown into the big powerful wings that will take them on their fall migration.
