This time, I share my experience using kalanchoe or Madre Madre, as an analgesic for rheumatic pains and antihistamine for mild sensitivity to insect bites.
En esta ocasión, comparto mi experiencia usando la kalanchoe o Madre Madre, como analgésico para dolores reumáticos y antihistamínico para la sensibilidad leve a la picadura de algunos insectos.
I started using it thanks to my sister @janettyanez, who grows it and explained to me the medicinal properties of this plant, obtaining very good results.

General characteristics

This plant is a succulent that has about 125 species, it belongs to the genus Kalanchoe of the family Crassulaceae , is native mainly to the African continent.
Esta planta es una suculenta que tiene alrededor de 125 especies, pertenece al género Kalanchoe de la familia Crassulaceae, es nativa primordialmente del continente Africano.
Its scientific name is Kalanchoe daigremontiana, it is popularly known by various names including: Mala Madre, Mother of thousands, Aranto, Arantes, Siempre Viva or simply Kalanchoe.
Su nombre científico es Kalanchoe daigremontiana, es conocida popularmente con diversos nombres entre ellos: Mala Madre, Madre de los miles, Aranto, Arantes, Siempre Viva o simplemente Kalanchoe.
A curious thing is the meaning of the word Kalanchoe, it comes from the Chinese word "kalan-chowi" (fall and grow), very appropriate to distinguish one of the most notorious characteristics of this plant, its accelerated and intense capacity of reproduction (asexual), when the numerous and beautiful sprouts on the edges of the leaves, called seedlings, fall to the ground, giving birth with ease to small independent plants.
Algo curioso es el significado de la palabra Kalanchoe, proviene del vocablo chino “kalan-chowi” (cae y crece), muy apropiado para hacer distinción a una de las característica más notoria de esta planta, su acelerada e intensa capacidad de reproducción (asexual), cuando los numerosos y hermosos brotes en los bordes de las hojas, denominados plántulas, caen a la tierra, dando origen con facilidad a pequeñas plantas independientes.
The smaller plants grow close to the mother plant, competing for space with other species in the area, and for this reason it is classified as an invasive species.
Las pequeñas planticas crecen cercanas a la planta madre, compitiendo por el espacio con otras especies que se encuentren en el área, por esta razón es catalogada como una especie invasora.
Its beautiful lanceolate and slightly curved leaves with delicate serrated edges, seem to be crafted by a meticulous and creative goldsmith or sculptor... the beauty, variety and perfection of nature's designs are surprising.
Sus hermosas hojas lanceoladas y ligeramente curvilíneas con delicados bordes dentados, parecen elaboradas por un minucioso y creativo orfebre o escultor… sorprendente la belleza, variedad y perfección de los diseños de la naturaleza.

This plant requires very little care, withstands periods of drought well, and thrives in arid soils.
Esta planta requiere muy pocos cuidados, resiste bien los periodos de sequía, y se desarrolla en suelos áridos.
They adapt very well to both direct and indirect sun. It is a beautiful plant.

For all these reasons, and its medicinal properties that I will share with you below, I incorporated it into my indoor garden in the window of my home.

Medicinal properties: Analgesic and Antihistamine.
Propiedades medicinales: Analgésico y Antihistamínico
This plant has been used since ancient times in Latin America, Africa and Asia as a medicinal plant, and is an established part of popular culture.
Esta planta es utilizada desde épocas remotas en Latinoamérica, África y Asia como planta medicinal, forma parte arraigada de la cultura popular.
In addition, several scientific studies have been carried out, including those of Puertas, Tobón and Arango (2014), who highlight its antioxidant, antihistamine and anti-inflammatory properties.
Adicionalmente, actualmente se han realizados diversos estudios científicos, entre ellos los de Puertas, Tobón y Arango (2014), quienes destacan sus propiedades antioxidantes, antihistamínica y antiinflamatoria.
Other sources consulted indicate that these properties are due to its content of flavonoids and bufadienolides, phenols and acetates, which give it antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, anti-ulcer, healing, antibacterial, antihaemorrhagic, anti-diabetic and, one of the most widespread, anticancer and antitumour properties.
Asimismo, otras fuentes consultadas señalan que estas propiedades se deben a su contenido de: flavonoides y bufadienólidos fenoles y acetatos, que le otorgan acción antiséptica, antiinflamatoria, antiviral, antiulcerosa, cicatrizante, antibacteriana, antihemorrágica, antidiabética y una de las más difundidas la anticancerígena y antitumoral.
I use the leaves topically as an analgesic, anti-inflammatory for rheumatic pains in the joints and antihistamine for insect bites and skin irritations.
Yo uso las hojas de forma tópica como analgésico, antinflamatorio en dolores reumáticos en las articulaciones y antihistamínico en picadas de insectos e irritaciones de la piel.
The procedure is simple, consisting of 4 activities, and requires the following: Ricin oil (optional), a piece of cotton cloth (can be used) and a mortar, pestle or similar to crush the leaves.
El procedimiento es sencillo, consta de 4 actividades, y se requiere de lo siguiente: aceite de ricino (opcional), un trozo de tela de algodón (puede ser usada) y un mortero, molcajete o similar para triturar las hojas.
1) Select 1 or 2 leaves of Kalanchoe daigremontiana.
1) Seleccione 1 o 2 hojas de Kalanchoe daigremontiana.
2) Manually cut up the leaves, add 1 or 2 drops of ricin oil, then grind them in a mortar and pestle.
2) Trocee manualmente las hojas, agregue unas 1 o 2 gotas de aceite de ricino y luego moler en un mortero.
With each movement projecting positive healing energy.
En cada movimiento que realice para triturar las hojas proyecte energía positiva de sanación.
3) Apply the mixture to the affected area, massaging gently. Then wrap the cotton cloth around the poultice to make it easier for the poultice to stay on and be absorbed.

Hola!! Conozco esa planta; sin embargo la que he usado es la Libertadora. La hoja caliente, sin quemar la piel, se coloca en la parte afectada para bajar la inflamación. El té se toma para alergia y gripes.

La Mala Madre es una buena opcion como analgésico, en mi caso me ayudo aliviar el dolor.
La Libertadora no la he utilizado, con tu recomendación la tendre presente.
