Slim pickens... Not entirely though

There's just days when no matter how positive and optimistic you might be about what you're doing, things just don't go as expected. During spring we visited a place that was full of fruit trees and bushes but had they to blossom and so we figured that going there during summer would be a great idea to return home with loads of fruit. This is a rural spot with difficult access as you have to cross many geographical obstacles and barbed wire fence to get there. But we happily went through with the challenge.

First we searched for the feral strawberries that we saw growing before and begin finding some:

These are really hard to spot as they are tiny. Here's a picture of how they look from a little further from the ground:

And here's how they look when fully standing up (don't mind the fruit in the bucket since we took these pictures on the way back, we'll get to that part of the story later 😅). You can't really distinguish anything from up here.

It was sad to find a very small amount of strawberries. When cattle raising hadn't completely taken over this region you could find loads more of this fruit just about anywhere. @choli remembers when she was a child she would just sit in one spot and pick a whole lot of them. Now we walked a vast area just to get this small bounty:

Yet that didn't smother our optimism and enjoyment:

What DID get our mood a bit down were these little fuckers called pimpinelas (pimpernels), that latched on to our clothes, being those in our socks the most annoying. They are thorny and don't let go easily, there are so many that it's not worth the time trying to get rid of them.

A close view of the plant for those who haven't seen it. It would seem that it tends to grow in places where the land had been burned or depredate... Are they the way there soil says: "leave me alone"?

After some uncomfortable hiking we arrived at where we thought our fruit bounty would be waiting for us:

But this wasn't meant to be a day where things just went according to plan. The cherry trees were a huge disappointment, literally they were huge and with good exposition to sunlight, yet the fruit was this small and scarce little thing:

As can be seen, not much to get from this tree:

We moved to be currant bushes which had a bit more to offer but still it was not enough to tolerate their thorns on our hands for long. We took some and then moved on.

Despite the foraging not going too well, there was plenty of abundance anyway. For example this view was something very nice to gaze upon and fill the Soul with the beauty of Nature:

Not to mention the waterfall:

We also stumbled upon a treasure that was much needed in our garden. These canes from a local plant called quila were brought to be the support for our pole beans.

This might have been the best harvest of the day:

We also gathered some fresh and clean water from the stream:

Just when we thought things were improving, another blooper came in it's way:

Haha we had to pass a fence with barbed wire. Maybe in a normal day the galon of water could pass with no problem... But you now, when we think nothing more could happens, happened. Must have been mercury retrograde 😅

We just laughed a lot and we took the chance and drink a little more of water in a different way:

Well, that concludes our little adventure filled with fails but a good one nonetheless. The most important thing is we kept a good attitude and laughed at the inconvenients, as well as that we made it safely back home.

some days...

🤭

A good adventure, even with the lack of fruit.

Yep, no complaining here
