The Magnificent Lake Toba Scenery (Entry for Amazing Nature Contest - April 2021 - #02)

One of the places that I want to revisit the most is Lake Toba, North Sumatra, Indonesia. It’s kind of love at first sight.

Um, "revisit" might not be the right word, since I had only seen Lake Toba from about 18.2 km away, not exactly on “the” Lake Toba. That's what makes me desirous about going to Lake Toba again.

The story was in 2012, my 3 colleagues and I went to Medan to do some work. We finished our work on Friday, so on Saturday we took a trip to Lake Toba, one of the largest lakes in Indonesia and Southeast Asia.

But on the way there, we got stuck in traffic. A friend of mine who is originally from Medan suggested that we go to Taman Simalem Resort instead, not to Lake Toba. He had some considerations, like:

The road was jammed, he worried that we couldn't make it on time. Maybe we would only have a short time there, then soon it would be dark. Meanwhile, on Sunday morning we had to go back to Jakarta. But, if we headed to Taman Simalem Resort, we could make it there at noon, and we could see the view of Lake Toba.

We all agreed. So, we headed to Taman Simalem Resort. And it was the right decision. When we entered the resort, the breathtaking view welcomed us.

From that place, we can see Lake Toba as a whole. The lake is very large, like no limits. There is only a thin horizontal line that divides the water and the sky. No wonder, Lake Toba is the largest lake in Indonesia and the largest volcanic lake in the world (check Wikipedia if you like).

I was so amazed to see that majestic sight. The white clouds above made the scene become more and more stunning. With the lands around the lake formed from mountains and hills, grass and trees, the scenery become more perfect. Great Lord, it's so magnificent!

I was happy and grateful to be there witnessing that glorious landscape. At the same time, I felt small in the midst of the majesty of God's creation. What lay before me was both amazing and thrilling.

For a moment we just sat there enjoyed the view and the cool air, and took pictures - of course. Then we walked around the place and took some pictures - again. Hours later, it was getting dark and the drizzle started to fall. We had to go back to Medan, and get ready to go home for the next day.

I loved the short trip but I wasn't satisfied enough. I intended to go back there, to Taman Simalem Resort and, of course, go to Lake Toba and visit Samosir island which is located in the middle of the lake. I wish one day I can go there again, to enjoy the #amazingnature and the cool fresh air with my hubby.
