We started this year visiting an incredible place that allowed us to connect again with mother nature. It is very curious that in the middle of a city as big as Bogota, of buildings and a lot of movement, there is a place like this, specifically within the Botanical Garden, and it is the Tropicario. A space of five large greenhouses where the climatic conditions necessary for the maintenance of different ecosystems are reproduced: super paramo, tropical rainforest, tropical dry forest, useful plants and the Specialized Collection for Conservation.
A few posts ago I told you that we visited the exhibition "Polinizando" at the Botanical Garden, that day we saw the imposing structure of the Tropicarium and we promised ourselves that we would come back to visit it. In this post I would like to share with you some pictures I took of the day we visited El Tropicario, what I learned during my stay there and some interesting facts I saw on the internet.
The Tropicarium of the Botanical Garden in Bogota houses plants, shrubs, flowers and vegetation from a wide variety of ecosystems. It is designed to be an educational place, as each species includes its respective name and in different places of the tour there are notes that allow us to understand a little more about the importance of that species in the ecosystem, and even in our lives. It also promotes research, outreach and awareness activities, as it houses almost 1,000 species that are at risk or threatened with extinction.
The architectural design and how the creation of this place, which has already been awarded and named as the largest Tropicarium in South America, was thought and planned, stands out. I was struck by the large glass structure that protects each of the spaces, and how an immersive experience is lived thanks to the fact that those in charge of this project took into account variables such as temperature, altitude, sounds and smells of nature (birdsong, wet earth). Some of these variables mainly liven up the experience for visitors, but others, such as the temperature level, are extremely important for species of all climates to grow and maintain themselves in the Tropicarium.
It is incredible to find in the same place the coexistence between the gifts that nature gives us and the influence of man, framed from a scientific, pedagogical and conservationist approach. The visit to the Tropicarium is a great experience for people of all ages, at a low cost and designed for a one hour stay, but I really felt that I lost track of time there.
My favorite place was the space set aside for useful plants, cocoa, coffee, vegetables and fruits, and even medicinal plants that have been used since the beginning of time, all in one place. The most beautiful part of the tour is to know that in Colombia there are these ecosystems in different areas of the country, that is, this nation is immensely rich in Flora and Fauna. The visit to the Tropicario left me with a nice feeling of gratitude and the thought that my actions have a great impact on nature, it is my responsibility to know this and be careful with what surrounds me 🌷🌵🌳🌻🌴
Comenzamos este año visitando un lugar increíble que nos permitió conectarnos nuevamente con la madre naturaleza. Es muy curioso que en el medio de una ciudad tan grande como Bogotá, de edificios y de mucho movimiento, exista un lugar como este, específicamente dentro del Jardín Botánico, y es el Tropicario. Un espacio de cinco invernaderos de gran tamaño donde se reproducen las condiciones climáticas necesarias para el mantenimiento de distintos ecosistemas: superpáramo, selva húmeda tropical, bosque seco tropical, plantas útiles y la Colección Especializada para la Conservación.
Hace algunas publicaciones atrás les comenté que visitamos la exposición "Polinizando" en el Jardín Botánico, ese día vimos la estructura imponente del Tropicario y nos prometimos que regresaríamos para conocerlo. En esta publicación me gustaría compartirles algunas fotografías que tomé del día que visitamos El Tropicario, lo que aprendí durante mi estancia allí y algunos datos interesantes que vi en internet.
El Tropicario del Jardín Botánico en Bogotá alberga plantas, arbustos, flores y vegetación de una gran variedad de ecosistemas. Está pensando para que sea un lugar educativo, pues cada especie incluye su respectivo nombre y en distintos lugares del recorrido hay notas que nos permiten comprender un poco más sobre la importancia de esa especie en el ecosistema, e incluso en nuestras vidas. Allí también se promueven actividades de investigación, divulgación y toma de consciencia, pues alberga casi 1.000 especies que están en riesgo o amenaza de extinción.
Destaca el diseño arquitectónico y cómo se pensó y planificó la creación de este lugar, que ya ha sido premiado y nombrado como el Tropicario más grande de Suramérica. Me llamó la atención la gran estructura de cristal que protege cada uno de los espacios, y cómo se vive una experiencia de inmersión gracias a que los encargados de este proyecto tomaran en cuenta variables como la temperatura, la altitud, los sonidos y olores propios de la naturaleza (el cantar de los pájaros, la tierra húmeda). Algunas de estas variables principalmente amenizan la experiencia para los visitantes, pero otras, como el nivel de temperatura, son sumamente importantes para que especies de todos los climas crezcan y se mantengan en el Tropicario.
Es increíble encontrar en un mismo lugar la convivencia entre los regalos que nos brinda la naturaleza y la influencia del hombre, enmarcado desde un enfoque científico, pedagógico y conservacionista. La visita al Tropicario es una experiencia genial para personas de todas las edades, a un bajo costo y que está pensando para una estancia de una hora, pero yo realmente sentí que perdí la noción del tiempo allí.
Mi lugar favorito fue el espacio destinado a las plantas útiles, el cacao, el café, vegetales y frutas, e incluso plantas medicinales que se han utilizado desde el inicio de los tiempos, todo en un mismo lugar. Lo más bonito del recorrido es saber que en Colombia existen estos ecosistemas en distintas zonas del país, es decir, esta nación es inmensamente rica en Flora y Fauna. La visita al Tropicario me dejó con una sensación bonita de gratitud y el pensamiento de que mis actos tienen un gran impacto sobre la naturaleza, es mi responsabilidad saber esto y ser cuidadosa con lo que me rodea 🌷🌵🌳🌻🌴
