Knitted Cashmere Bra

Finally finished the cashmere version of a knitted bra I posted about a while back. The merino was sort of a trial run so I could then be sure to make a great piece from the expensive cashmere yarn.

I’m really happy how this turned out but it didn’t come about without trouble.

There aren’t that many cashmere yarns available but I found this gorgeous thin seafoam blue yarn online, and I knitted it with 2mm needles. The pattern is Everyday Bra from Nakedknit.

On the left is my trial run bra following the instructions and I didn’t like the edge. It took me quite a while to trial different ways to slip stitches and decrease to get this smooth look for the final piece. I also increased the distance between the pleats by two stitches for a better fit, I thought it odd that in all the sizes the distance was 20 stitches, not everyones boobs are that close to each other. But that’s the beauty of hand-made, you can adjust to make the perfect fit for you.

Now, hand up who hates making mistakes… I for one do! What happened was that I made the band a little too thight and when I tried it on the first time only after being more than halfway done (idiot!!) I managed to break the yarn from a slipped stitch at the start of the side decreases. That is when I found out cahsmere yarn is pretty delicate. I really had no choice but to unravel it all and start again.

Who else makes illegible notes like this while knitting?

Ps. I might need to shorten the I-cord straps, iron them and block the whole thing, but I’m too lazy to do that yet.

Sort:

Maybe I should start knitting.

You did it!! Congrats on making your first cashmere bra! I’m glad you found the yarn in such a beautiful color. Frogging…yikes I hate when that has to take place. Good thing you caught it half way through and not at the very end. 🫣

Very nicely done 👏🏽! Thanks for sharing the final results with us ~

Thank you! Haha, if I were to find a crucial error at the end of a work, I’d probably just trash the whole damn thing and maybe never start again.

Hahaha 🤣🤣🤣!! I'm with you on that one! 💯

See, not as good without a cashmere bra!

Cashmere is a great choice. I think a basic wool would have been irritating to the skin in that body area. The knitting is successful.

Yes, even the instructions say they can’t recommend anything else because it will probably irritate.

I have worked with Dale's "Baby Ull" and it is super soft even right up against the skin.

It looks so softy😏

It is, and it looks fluffy in the sun :)

Well done! It's best to take the time and get exactly what you want. I relate on so many levels; illegible notes, mistake, ripping out... needle broke... lol

Usually it is worth it in the end, and if not, you are not as likely to make the same mistake again 😁

Thank you, I have been practising for 20 years so… 😁😅

This is a wonderful piece of work! It is nicely executed, and your choice of yarn color is lovely! Cashmere is so soft and luxurious! All women should have a charming bra like this in their lingerie drawer! Kudos, and thanks for sharing! 😊

Thank you! This yarn really is soooo nice, if it wasn’t for the price, I’d buy it in every colour and make soooo much more with it 😁

The outcome looks great that it seems there's nothing wrong or error that you had encountered. That's the beauty of crochet/knitting. You can always unravel everything if it doesn't suit your taste. And I'm still thinking of trying to knit since I only knew how to crochet. But it seems like knitting is more difficult that crochet.😅

I never tried using a cashmere yarn in crocheting any project yet. But I hope someday I will be able to make something out of cashmere yarn and share it here.

Anyway thanks for sharing this post. God bless you. 😊

Unraveling is important if something is not right but it hurts just as much every time, all those wasted hours! 😤

I on the other hand don’t really know how to crochet much. I want to crochet a summer beach bag and I have the materials for it but haven’t started yet.

Unraveling is part on our learning. They are vital, and one should have that EXTRA patience for that Wonderful outcome. 😊 Yes, it hurts, that's why if I knew that there's an error, I'll just put it aside, and let the day pass before unraveling. 🤣

This is really very beautiful thanks for sharing

Thanks for viewing!

Thats a really beautiful bra!! The colour is very cute for the material as well and that you choose a cashmere yarn is amazing I find, I can only imagine how comfortable that bra must be to wear!!! ..so you can be lightly dressed but still warm😅

It is sooooo nice, better than I expected! The sad thing about cashmere (and many other nice handcraft materials) is that it’s cheaper to buy a cashmere sweater than the materials for it. That shouldn’t be right!

Ahh shit yes thats a shame (about the price), well I guess we have to live with that... not even online shops would sell it for a decent price? well I guess thats where I like to buy all my silk fabric within secondhand clothes:) but for cashmere thread thats probably impossible to find secondhand I guess..

What a great idea, I love it. I have some questions: 1) Is there a pattern?, 2) Is it with a circular needle?, 3) Does this type of thread itch?, 4) Is it useful for larger breasts? Thanks @eveuncovered for sharing

This is the pattern I bought: https://nakedknit.com/products/the-everyday-bra-english

The band is done circular and then the cups are knit back and forth.

Cashmere is super soft and does not itch at all, they don’t recomment using anything else.

I would imagine that larger breasts need more support but since mine are small, I can’t really know. Do note that there is no clasp, that might be more of an issue with bigger boobs.

Hope this helps! :)

Thank you!, how nice of you to have responded so quickly. I love that idea, I'm going to try it. Thanks again, blessings.

I recently found some cashmere blend yarn and am contemplating a camisole. I found a WWII-era pattern for knitted undies. Think it might be just the thing for a rough midwestern winter? !BBH

Uu that sounds lovely, could you show me a picture of the kind of undies they are?

Here's a link if you want to see the pattern: https://www.etsy.com/listing/547424377/long-underwear-knitting-pattern-camisole Lots of great old patterns on etsy. !CTP

Those look sooo nice as an underlayer for winter, but definitely a lot of work! I do hope you make some of these pieces, would love to see it :)

I plan to cast on a camisole after I finish a couple of other projects.

Looking really good, well done!

Thanks! :)

This looks very well made. I recently went shopping for new bras because my body decided I had to go wireless. Wires in the cups now hurt me. I can imagine this cashmere bra is very comfortable.

It is very comfortable, feels like almost nothing. Luckily these days there are plenty of pretty choises for both wired and wireless bras :)

I'm gonna bookmark this post!
And only because of the pattern,
and I also like the pattern-improvements on the side edge!

is there anything you cannot do?
