Denim SHORT with CROCHET Embellishments

in NeedleWorkMonday3 years ago (edited)
Hello everyone! Have you tried decorating your clothes with crochet? How does it look like after? Are you satisfied with the outcome? Would you like to share it also here in our community?

These are the questions that keeps on popping on my mind whenever I think about redesigning any of my clothes and giving it a new look. So now I decided to give it a try and ask your thoughts, reactions or even suggestions after this tutorial.

For today, I have chosen this denim short to give it a new look. I was looking at the net for some inspirations and found several samples. I wanted to redesign this denim shorts because I haven't felt confident in wearing this style. Then I think of a way how to extend this thing and thought of using crochet.

To begin with, we need the following:

Materials:

  • denim short to be redesigned
  • Monaco undye 3ply yarn
  • 1mm steel hook
  • 2.75mm hook
  • scissor
  • tapestry needle
  • marker (I only used ballpen)

Procedure:

#1,2,3 (1st layer) Using the steel hook (smaller hook with pointy end), I was able to make some holes for single crochet.
#4 (2nd layer) Chain 5, skip a stitch then double crochet on the next stitch, then chain 1, skip a stitch, double crochet on the next stitch, doing the same pattern 'till end, then slip stitch.
#5 (3rd layer) chain 4, skip 1 square and single crochet on the the middle of the next square (chain 4 then single crochet - on every 1 and 1/2 square)
#6 (4th layer) chain 4 and single crochet on the middle of 4-chain, double crochet 8 times on the next 4-chain (do this pattern until end) then slip stitch. (see #7 and #8 pictures below)

#9 (5th layer) chain 4, single crochet on the middle of the 4-chain, single crochet, then double crochet-chain-double crochet-chain until you finished the 8 double crochet forming the shell then single crochet.
#10 (6th layer) Follow pattern on the 5th layer except make only 1 4-chain (as you see on the picture)
#11 (7th layer) make a picot in between the double crochet

Diagram Pattern: Made by yours truly. (Sorry for the not so perfect drawing.)

This is how it looks like after.

I decided to put a name (hive) on the left corner (near the pocket) to honor this platform and express my gratitude for the creator. founders, administrators and curators for working so hard and to all the members out there who are able to share their life experience through their blogs and supporting other members through comments and upvotes.

#12 I trace the name hive using the ballpen as marker.
#13 Sew it using the tapestry needle and the monaco undye 3ply yarn
#14 Put some designs (You may choose any design you want.)

Then lastly I made a crochet belt to complete the accessory.

This is the diagram pattern that I used when making the belt.

So this is the outcome of my denim short with crochet embellishment.

As I was taking pictures of the finished project, my husband had express his disapproval of putting / placing too many crochet embellishments. He said that it was too much and that I should remove some of it. Though I was partly agree with his opinion, but remembering the effort plus the time that was consumed just to put everything on it, seems wasted if I would to remove some of them. So what I did, was continue taking pictures while an argument was raising on my mind. That if I had to removed something, what will it be? Unable to decide, which s which, I just continue what it looks like. But hoping that you will still like it and inspire others. I will be glad to know or read your reactions, comments or suggestions about this project that I made.

Thank you and God bless us all!

Nice! Ang galing talaga. Siguro Kung ako, remove Yung pinaka malaking design sa left leg. Keep Lang Yung 2 sa, may pocket. Or make it similar dun sa dalawa. Bet ko yung lace design sa hem. Sana Nakagawa rin ako ng sariling pattern (ambisyosa. Haha)

hi @arrliinn. Thanks for the suggestion.

I like it just the way it is. It's so beautiful and artistically done. If ever, I would have added more colors para mas agaw atensyon. Haha. That's just me. I like big and sparkly. Lol.

Thanks @romeskie. Isa ka sa mga taong sobrang nagpapataba sa puso ko at isa sa rason na patuloy akong nagshe share dito. Salamat.😘

Di ko din naisip na gumamit nang ibang colors pero tingin ko nga mas makakaagaw pansin siya pag may iba ibang colors..ill try it next time..☺️

I love the design. I looks cute. !discovery 20
