I thought that after all the time that passed since the last time I tried to sew this elastic and with the experience in lingerie that I acquired I was going to get better results, but it was not like that 😅.
Hola Needleworkers ❤️. Feliz sábado para todos 😃. Espero que se encuentren muy bien hoy. En esta oportunidad quiero mostrarles lo que estuve haciendo ayer. Después de varios meses, volví a intentar coser elástico partido 😂.
Creí que después de todo el tiempo que pasó desde la última vez que intenté coser este elástico y con la experiencia en lencería que adquirí iba a obtener mejores resultados, pero no fue así 😅.
The fold over elastic is used in lingerie and sewing in general to give better finishes to the garments. It is an elastic that is missing a rubber in the middle, so this allows it to fold in half. The theory says that you should insert the fabric into the elastic and sew. It sounds easy.
El elástico partido se utiliza en lencería y en costura en general para dar mejores terminaciones a las prendas. Se trata de un elástico que le falta una goma en el medio, entonces esto le permite doblarse a la mitad. La teoría dice que debes introducir la tela dentro del elástico y coser. Suena fácil.
But is not. Today I was trying the finish for a new bodice. At first, it seemed like I was going to be fine. I did the zigzag stitch technique and in one part it came out pretty decent.
PERO no lo es. Hoy estuve ensayando la terminación para un nuevo corpiño. Al principio, parecía que me iba a salir bien. Realicé la técnica con puntada zigzag y en una parte salió bastante decente.
When I sewed the other edge, I already started to notice the same problem that happened to me the last time I tried to use this elastic: the garment started to bend a little.
Cuando cosí el otro borde, ya empecé a notar el mismo problema que me ocurríó la última vez que intenté usar este elástico: la prenda se empezó a doblar un poco.
And each time it was getting worse and worse 😫.
Y cada vez iba empeorando más y más 😫.
And no matter how hard I tried, afterwards I couldn't get it to come out straight again. I touched all the buttons on the machine, changed the thread tension, tried different zigzag sizes but there was no use. The garment was folded and although I stretched it to simulate the bodice on, it looked folded anyway.
Y por más que lo intenté, después no pude volver a lograr que me salga derecho de nuevo. Toqué todos los botones de la máquina, cambié la tensión del hilo, probé con distintos tamaños de zigzag pero no hubo caso. La prenda quedaba doblada y aunque la estirara simulando el corpiño puesto, se veía doblado de todos modos.
To top it off, I have a ton of this elastic in red as well. I suspect that it is the quality of the elastic, it must be very bad (or maybe my technique is wrong, but for now I prefer to think that it is the fault of the elastic) 😂.
Para colmo, tengo un montón de este elástico in-cosible en color rojo también. Sospecho que es la calidad del elástico, debe ser muy mala (o quizás mi técnica sea errónea, pero por ahora prefiero pensar que es culpa del elástico) 😂.
Lastly, in my desperate attempt for good results, I changed the stitch to straight. It seemed that I had found the solution ... but in the end it was also bent 😂.
Por último, en mi intento desesperado por obtener buenos resultados, cambié la puntada a recta. Parecía que había encontrado la solución... pero al final también quedaba doblado 😂.
So after an afternoon complaining about this, I concluded that this elastic is not for sewing on a familiar machine. It is very fragile, it bends easily when you stretch it manually. A few days ago I researched industrial lingerie production and discovered that machines do everything. They only need one person to put the fabrics and the machines do all the work, no one has to stretch any elastic like in artisanal lingerie production. This took a load off me in terms of the neatness of my work: I am a very perfectionist, but now I know that I will never be as perfect as a professional machine. However, I will take care to find a good quality elastic that can sew well at home. I'm not going to give up with the fold over elastic! 😅
Así que después de una tarde renegando con esto, concluí en que este elástico no es para coser en máquina familiar. Es muy frágil, se dobla fácil cuando lo estiras manualmente. Hace unos días investigué producción de lencería industrial y descubrí que las máquinas hacen todo. Solo necesitan una persona que acomode las telas y las máquinas hacen todo el trabajo, nadie tiene que estirar ningún elástico como en la producción artesanal de lencería. Esto me sacó una carga de encima en cuanto a la prolijidad de mis trabajos: soy muy perfeccionista, pero ahora sé que nunca me va a salir tan perfecto como a una máquina profesional. Sin embargo, me ocuparé de conseguir un elástico de buena calidad que pueda coser en casa. ¡No me voy a rendir ante el elástico partido! 😅

ay no amiga que fastidio cuando uno intenta e intenta y la cosa no sale bien jeje pero lo sospeché desde que empecé a leerte, yo creo que una maquina de esas de las fábricas es la que debe hacer bien eso, no debe ser tu culpa en el manejo de tu maquina o el estirado de la prenda, es decir somos humanos no podemos estirar el elástico exactamente a la misma tensión por todo el recorrido. Ánimo :)
Te juro que este elástico me pone loca jajajaja. Encima tengo varios metros, que bronca 😂. Pero bueno, veré de conseguir uno un poco más rígido.
bueno le puedes hacer cositas a la barbie, asi cosiendolo a mano, o no se, tal vez colas para el cabello asi con tela quedan bonitas, osea el elástico lo usas por dentro sin coser, algo se te ocurrirá y le sacaras provecho incluso para sostener un tapabocas debe servir jeje Un abrazo querida

Imagino tu carita stress, este elástico es parecido a un sesgo, nunca he cosido sesgo, pero he escuchado que no es tan de coser.
Seguramente encontrarás una buena opción de elástico te deje satisfecha.
