Winter is coming / Nicht mehr lange hin...
Dieses Garn ist eigentlich für die Herstellung von Spülschwämmen und ähnlichem gedacht. Ich war begeistert von der Idee und habe mehrere Knäuel davon gekauft, als ich es vor drei Jahren zum ersten Mal sah. Es eignet sich gut für diesen Zweck - ich habe mehrere Spülis und Duschpuschel daraus gemacht. Aber es ist Plastik, was ich zu vermeiden versuche.
This yarn is meant for making scrubbies and sponges. I loved the idea and bought several skeins of it when I first saw it three years ago. It serves well for that purpose - I made several things with it. But it is plastic which I try to avoid.
Beim Waschen von Sachen aus Polyacryl und Polyester (und all den anderen Kunststoffen) lösen sich kleine Partikel und gelangen ins Wasser und damit in die Umwelt, wo sie wer weiß wie lange bleiben. Besonders im Trinkwasser und in Lebensmitteln können sie problematisch sein: Einige Partikel (Mikroplastik genannt) sind klein genug, um über den Magen-Darm-Trakt aufgenommen zu werden. Bisher sind noch keine schlüssigen Studien durchgeführt worden über Folgen, aber ich bin da lieber vorsichtig.
During the washing of things made of polyacrylics and polyester (and all the other plastics), small particles come off and get into the water and thus into the environment where it stays for no-one knows how long. Especially in drinking water and food they might be problematic: some particles (called microplastics) are small enough to be absorbed into the gastrointestinal tract. So far, no conclusive studies have been made but I prefer to err on the side of caution.
Das bedeutet für mich: Bei Projekten, die häufig gewaschen werden, vermeide ich es, Garn mit Poly-wasauchimmer darin zu verwenden. Das ist bei Socken schwierig, es gibt Sockengarn mit Seide und anderen Fasern anstelle von Polyacryl, aber es ist sehr teuer. Aber ich werde dieses Garn, das für das Säubern von Geschirr, Küche und Bad (und mir selber) gedacht ist, nicht mehr für solche Projekte verwenden. Für die Deko-Sachen allerdings ist es großartig - vor allem für den Außenbereich, denn es ist haltbarer als die üblicherweise verwendete Baumwolle. Und für Weihnachtsdeko noch viel mehr, weil es so schön puschelig ist + glitzert :)
That means for me: avoiding using yarn with poly in it for projects that are washed often. That's difficult with socks, there is sock yarn with silk and other fibres instead of polyacrylics, but it's very expensive. But I won't use this yarn meant to be used for things to wash your dishes (or yourself) for that purpose anymore. But for decoration, it's great - especially outdoor decoration, because it is more durable than the commonly used cotton.
Ich plane etwa 20 solcher kleinen Anhänger zu machen, dieser kleine Baum ist der erste davon. Ansonsten wird es noch Sterne und andere Motive geben - und natürlich noch ein paar Bäumchen. Im Moment überlege ich, die "Lichterkette" aus einem glatteren und dünneren Garn herzustellen, vielleicht mercerisierter Baumwolle, die ja auch schön glänzt. Was meint ihr?
This little tree is the first of the decorative hangings, I plan to make more of it and stars and other motives. Though I'm thinking about making the 'chain decoration' out of a smoother and thinner yarn, what do you think?
Sock Knitting (+ unravelling) / Socken stricken und ribbeln
Fast fertig war ich mit dem Stricken der Socke, schon am Bündchen - und dann habe ich bemerkt, dass ich eine Masche an der Sohle fallen gelassen hatte. Es gab bereits einen weiteren Fehler, den ich danach ausbessern wollte. Zwei sichtbare Fehler in einer Socke? Da wird geribbelt. Dabei habe ich noch eine weitere unschöne Stelle im hellgrünen Teil etwas weiter links bemerkt. Also noch ein paar Reihen geribbelt. Jetzt muss ich den grössten Teil der Socke noch einmal stricken. Ganz großer Seufzer
I was nearly finished with knitting the sock, already at the cuff - and then I noticed that I had dropped a stitch at the sole. There already was another mistake which I had planned to mend afterwards. But two visible mistakes in one sock made me decide to unravel everything back to the mistake. While I was doing that I noticed another unsightly spot in the light green part to the left. Now I have to knit most of the sock again. sighs

Das ist schon ein goldiger kleiner Weihnachtsbaum. :-) Recht hast Du, darauf zu achten was das Plastik für Folgen hat. Jeder ein bisschen und alles ist gut. Wohl aber, brauchen wir uns keine Gedanken um Plastiktüten machen, wenn sie in anderen Ländern im Fluss landen. Bei uns, landet das meiste dann doch noch in der Tonne oder wird früher oder später mal aufgesammelt.

I already told you how über cute I find this tiny Tannenbaum. I love it and I love the rough surface of the plastic yarn and I would guess that the chain made from plastic yarn blends better into the "needles" of the Christmas tree. So, if you want it to stand out more, I would use a smoother yarn, if you want the illusion of the chain being partly covered from needles, I would stick with the plastic :-D
And the sock.... the mistakes are only visible because you knit too neat :-DDD My uneven stitches would hide ever lost stitch and hole :-D
I think I'm going to ask at my local knitting group if someone has some thread in gold or silver - that would look neat!
