Greetings to all needle artists and supporters!
Welcome to NeedleWorkMonday Community’s
130th Featured Posts!

This is a weekly curation showcasing the needlework of our very own HIVEians.

Every Monday we get together to share our love and passion for the needle arts, posting from the NeedleWorkMonday Community and using the #needleworkmonday tag. On all other days we use the #needlework tag. We enjoy each other’s creations, ideas, patterns, tips and shortcuts.

Let us as a community, continue to show our love and support by visiting and commenting on each other's work while inspiring one another with the beautiful works of needle art that we do. Nothing makes a heart happier than to read a supportive comment from a fellow member!

The challenge

Two weeks ago, we announced a Women's Day Challenge, to craft something that in your eyes relates to this day. 13 of last Monday's post were an answer to our challenge, and they were all fabulous!

@irenenavarroart, @pialejoana and others showed us that clothes are more than a simple covering for our body, that they can have meaning and be a statement. It was difficult to make a choice, but here are four posts that show the whole spectrum of what March 8th mean to us needleworkers.

This was a challenge, and not a contest, so the small prizes will go to all eligible participants :)

A simple picture of a doll with crafted things (aren't they cute?) - but everything @creacioneslelys put into the picture has a special meaning. They show parts of a women's life, of her work and responsibilities, increased due to the pandemic.

Clothes make the man - but accessories make the woman ;) Especially if the accessories are so iconic like Frida Kahlo's flowery hair decoration. The artist had her own sense of fashion and emphasized her indigenous roots at a time when others tried to blend in. Here is a crocheted flower decoration, presented by @tibaire in a stunning "self-portrait".

The UN's motto for this year's International Women's Day is "Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world" - unfortunately the most women are leading in is the amount of work they have to shoulder. The impossibility to conform to ever-changing standards, often to women's own detriment, is the subject of this fibre art.

Another famous woman, another icon, but totally different. Or perhaps not so - like Frida Kahlo, Princess Diana tried to stay true to herself in an environment that had strict rules. She became a role model not only through her behaviour, but through her clothes. Like this red evening robe, she seemed to use fashion as a statement. @kattyrochet used sewing and crochet to create a dress for a doll, as elegant and formidable as the famous original.

As I looked at this weeks curation title image I was flashed: the small photos of the projects alone promised so much and I was not dissappointed (only in me... as I somehow missed @tibaire Frida Kahlo post: I love it). This community is amazing: So much skill, color, love and expiriences at one place.
