Hello dear friends of this creative and fantastic community! Yesterday I heard about this contest and I was encouraged to participate even though the things I do are not professional, but things I do to give a different touch to some corner of the house.
I had some months wandering around the idea of fixing a cushion that belonged to mom. During her convalescence, I would give her her cushion and she used to hug it until she fell asleep.
The poor cushion is already pretty ugly, considering that mom passed away almost 8 years ago. I had it stored with some of her things that I didn't want to get rid of.
¡Hola queridos amigos de esta creativa y fantástica comunidad! Ayer supe de este concurso y me animé a participar aunque las cosas que hago no son profesionales, sino cosas que hago para darle un toque distinto a algún rincón de la casa.
Tenía algunos meses paseándome por la idea de arreglar un cojín que pertenecía a mamá. Durante su convalecencia, yo le daba su cojín y ella solía abrazarlo hasta quedarse dormida.
El pobre cojín ya está bastante feíto, tomando en cuenta que mamá falleció hace casi 8 años. Yo lo tenía guardado con algunas cosas de ella de las que no he querido deshacerme.
Besides that, last Saturday I was collecting clothes that I don't need, to donate them to a very poor community in the east of my country. But as I had not yet selected the clothes, I got these jeans from my ex-husband and some more pieces of jean fabric.
Bingo! The light bulb went off and I saw the opportunity to participate in this contest: I would cover the cushion with my ex's old jeans! I didn't have much of an idea what I would do, but it was worth a try.
Además de eso, el sábado pasado estaba recolectando la ropa que no necesito, para donarlas en una comunidad muy pobre en el oriente de mi país. Pero como aún no había seleccionado las prendas, me conseguí con estos jeans de mi ex esposo y otros trozos más de tela de jean.
¡Bingo! Se me prendió el bombillo y vi la oportunidad de participar en este concurso. ¡Forraría el cojín con los jeans viejos de mi ex! No tenía mucha idea de lo que haría, pero valía la pena intentarlo.

What I came up with was to cut the fabric into equal squares to place them one upside down, one right side up, one upside down and so on, simulating a chessboard. This would be on one side, because I didn't want both sides the same and that besides being decorative, it would be something useful for me and my son.
Lo que se me ocurrió fue cortar la tela en cuadrados iguales para colocarlas una al revés, una al derecho, una al revés y así, simulando un tablero de ajedrez. Esto sería por un lado, porque no quería ambos lados iguales y que además de decorativo, resultase algo útil para mi y para mi hijo.
Once I cut out the 12 squares of fabric (the measurements of each were 10 x 12), I started sewing them together with a needle and white thread. I had to do the whole procedure by hand because I don't have a sewing machine. I chose the white thread because I wanted the contrast with the dark fabric to be visible and I wanted the stitching to be on the outside, to make it more handmade.
Una vez que corté los 12 cuadrados de tela (las medidas de cada uno eran 10 x 12), me puse a coserlos con una aguja e hilo blanco. Tuve que hacer todo el procedimiento a mano porque no tengo máquina de coser. Escogí el hilo blanco porque quería que se viera el contraste con la tela oscura y quería que la costura quedase hacia afuera, para hacerlo más artesanal.
I had already finished one side of the cushion, now for the back, I would take the back of the jeans. It took me a while on this part because I had to unpick here and tie there so that I could cover that whole side.
Ya había terminado un lado del cojín, ahora para la parte de atrás, cogería la parte trasera de los vaqueros. Me costó en esta parte un poco porque tuve que descoser aquí y empatar allá para que pudiese cubrir todo ese lado.
Then everything flowed in a positive way and with relaxing music I continued sewing until I finished.
Ok, I finished, but I felt that something was missing, it looked very simple....
Después todo fluyó de manera positiva y con una música relajante seguí cosiendo hasta terminar.
Ok, terminé, pero sentía que le faltaba algo, se veía muy simple...
Then it occurred to me to attach the denim brand labels, cut out a couple of hearts with the leftover fabric and since there were still squares to fill, I checked in the clothes I'm donating, and pulled out several labels.
This is the final result:
Entonces se me ocurrió colocar las etiquetas de la marca del vaquero, cortar un par de corazones con la tela sobrante y como aún faltaban cuadros por llenar, revisé en la ropa que voy a donar, y extraje varias etiquetas.

On the one hand, it is beautiful, rustic and fun, and on the other hand, it is useful because we can keep the TV remote control that we always lose.
I am satisfied and happy with the result. I gave my mom's cushion a new lease of life and even though I ended up exhausted, I liked having done it by hand, as she did most of her sewing.
Por un lado es bonito, rústico y divertido y por el otro lado, es útil ya que podemos guardar el control remoto del televisor que siempre se nos pierde.
Me siento satisfecha y feliz con el resultado. Le di una nueva oportunidad de vida al cojín de mi mamá y a pesar de haber terminado agotada, me gustó haberlo hecho a mano, como hacía ella casi todas sus costuras.

Hi! 😊 Thank you so much for what you tell me, I really wanted to do that with my mom's cushion. After I finished it, it occurred to me that I could have put a little square of her favorite blanket or the sweater she always wore and that I still have with me, but I think it would have been difficult for me to do it because without a sewing machine it costs a little. Yes, I was really happy with what I did, I loved it. In fact with the denim fabric, the cushion took on weight and volume, as if it were new. I feel happy!!!
