Hello my dear needleworkers! My client came to my place to have some garments to be repaired. I used to make the necessary adjustment of the outfits that her aunt in Australia would send, be it in waist adjustments, length of skirt or whatever that needs renovating to fit for their church's protocol.

The first major repair is to adjust the neckline because it's too low. In cases such as this, it's either you put an extra lace patch to cover the cleavage or make the necessary adjustments on the shoulder. But since the waistline is too low, the best thing for me to do is to raise it higher.

How to Adjust:

  • Detach the sleeves first but do not cut the excess first.
  • Fold the shoulder and measure from the waist up.
  • Sew and zigzag the edges for a clean look.
  • After sewing the edges, attach the sleeves again. Start from the center via basting stitch before finally sewing it to prevent a repetition of work which could damage the cloth.

(Photo: Cutting of long dress. Since the dress is wide and round, see to it that the side is cut higher say, about 1cm compared to the center point because there will be a tendency for the sides to sag, if you cut it straight.

The second repair to be made is to adjust the length of the dress. Make sure to leave an allowance for folding.

When folding, sew the first fold since it is a crepe cloth before doing the second fold.

And the last but not the least, is adjustment of sleeve. It may look easy but the problem is that the cloth is like a spandex that when you sew it, the needle had the tendency to slip and make a space because it cannot fully penetrate. What should I do? It is already cut!

In situations such as this, you need to put a thin paper so the needle won't leave a vacant space and then slowly tear the paper.

There, I can now collect my fees! It's a good amount to add for my tight budget! It saved my day. See, if you know how to sew and repair things like these garments, you will have some additional stuffs on your table!

I hope my tips would help you in your tiny repairs in your outfits as well.

Thanking the ladies behind this scene, @crosheille, @muscara, @shanibeer, @marblely and @neumannsalva. God bless you guys!
