Hello to all members of this community and sewing enthusiasts! Today I'm going to show you how to make a pretty simple and useful sewing project. Shower caps are ideal for when you want to keep your hair completely dry while taking a bath, preventing moisture from ruining your blow-dry or straightening (perfect if you've just left the salon), and they're also great to wear after using a hair treatment.
I'd actually been wanting to make these shower caps for quite some time, since I needed one myself. So, when my sister asked if I could make her one, I took the opportunity to finally get started on this project, haha.
Okay, the first thing I did was watch some tutorials on YouTube, since I didn't have a sample hat and wasn't sure what size I would need. After making a test hat, I was happy with the result, so I'll show you the steps I followed.
First, I made the pattern. For this, I used a piece of recycled paper on which I marked a circle 52 cm in diameter. I don't know the name of the fabric I used, but it's the kind used to make umbrellas or parasols, which has ideal waterproofing to prevent water from getting in from one side or the other; although any other type of waterproof fabric would work perfectly. I also used 1 cm thick elastic.

Next, I traced the pattern onto the fabric (I made my pattern on half, so that's why I traced it with the fabric folded). Once I cut out the piece, I ironed it to remove the crease lines.

After, I went to the sewing machine. I started by sewing a small hem all around the edge of the circumference. Then, I made another hem, the right size for the elastic to pass through. Since it's a curved piece, it's natural for some creases to form while sewing. In this case, it's necessary to leave a small opening instead of sewing it completely closed.

I cut 52 cm of elastic and, to insert it into the hat, I used a pin or safety pin on one end of the elastic, passing it through the opening I had left. This way, the fabric gathered. Once I had both ends of the elastic, I joined them with a seam and proceeded to close the opening I had left, taking the opportunity to attach the label that I always sew onto the pieces I make from scratch.

After doing this, simply arrange the fabric along the elastic band and the hat will be ready. As you can see, it's a quick and easy project ✨
That way, I ended up making more hats to give to my family. I took the opportunity to make some with the fabric inside out (silver side facing out), and I also sewed others with a waterproof fabric I bought later, to compare the two. I definitely prefer the umbrella fabric.

After getting the approval of my family and myself, and after using them, I regret not having made them sooner haha. Now I have to buy more fabric because the ones I made to sell aren't enough 😆 On the other hand, I'm glad to have crossed this idea off my sewing to-do list 👌

¡Hola a todos los integrantes de esta comunidad y amantes de la costura! El día de hoy vengo a mostrarles cómo realizar un proyecto de costura bastante sencillo y útil. Los gorros de ducha son ideales para cuando desea mantenerse el cabello completamente seco a la hora de tomar un baño, evitando que la humedad arruine el secado o planchado del cabello (Ideal si acabas de salir de la peluquería), así como son perfectos para colocárselos luego de utilizar algún tratamiento capilar.
La verdad tenía bastante tiempo con la idea de realizar este tipo de gorros Ya que yo misma lo necesitaba, así que aproveché el momento en que mi hermana me preguntó que si podría hacerle uno, para ponerme manos a la obra con este proyecto por fin jaja.
Bien, lo primero que hice fue ver algunos tutoriales a través de la plataforma Youtube, ya que no tenía un gorro de muestra y no estaba segura de las dimensiones que utilizaría. Luego de hacer un gorro de prueba, quedé satisfecha así que les mostraré los pasos que seguí.
Lo primero, fue realizar el patrón. Para ello, utilicé un trozo de papel reciclado en el cual marqué lo que sería una circunferencia de 52 cm de diámetro. El tipo de tela que utilicé no sé cómo se llama pero es la tela que se utiliza para fabricar paraguas o sombrillas, la cual posee una impermeabilidad ideal para evitar que el agua ingrese de un lado u otro; aunque sirve perfectamente cualquier otro tipo de tela impermeable. También use goma de 1cm de grosor.

Lo siguiente, fue marcar el patrón en la tela (mi patrón lo hice por la mitad, así que por eso, marcaba con la tela doblada). Una vez que corté la pieza, procedí a plancharla, para eliminar las líneas de dobleces de la tela.

Después, pasé a la máquina de coser. Comencé cosiendo un pequeño dobladillo en todo el borde de la circunferencia. Después, hice otro dobladillo, del tamaño adecuado para que pasase la goma. Al ser una pieza curva, es natural que se formen algunos pliegues a la hora de coser. En este caso, es necesario dejar una pequeña abertura en lugar de coser completo.

Corté 52 cm de goma y para meterla en el gorro, utilicé un alfiler o imperdible en uno de los extremos de la goma, introduciendo la misma por la abertura que dejé, de ésta forma, la tela se fue ruchando. Una vez que tuve los dos extremos de la goma, las uní con una costura y procedí a cerrar la abertura que había dejado, aprovechando de colocar la etiqueta que siempre coso en las piezas que realizo desde cero.

Tras realizar esto, se va acomodando la tela a lo largo de la goma y el gorro estará listo. Como pueden ver, es un proyecto que no lleva mucho tiempo y es realmente sencillo ✨
De esa forma, acabé haciendo más gorros, para regalar a mis familiares. Aproveché de realizar algunos con la tela invertida (la parte plateada hacia afuera), así como coser otros con una tela impermeable que compré después, para verificar la diferencia entre ambas telas. Sin duda, me gusta más la tela de paraguas.

Luego de recibir el visto bueno de parte de mis familiares y de yo misma, luego de usarlos, me arrepiento de no haberlos fabricado antes jaja Ahora tengo que comprar más tela porque los que elaboré para vender, no me son suficientes 😆 Entre ello, me alegro de haber tachado esta idea de mi lista de pendientes por coser 👌
