Hello to everyone in this community and fellow sewing enthusiasts! Today I'm here to show you a sewing project I made before my trip to the countryside. It turns out I'd bought some scraps of fabric on a whim (like any fabric lover 😆) because I fell in love with the prints. At first, I thought about using the fabric to make some bows or clothes to sell, but I decided to make something for myself, since I'd been neglecting personal projects lately, haha.

For this dress, I used half a meter of sheer fabric. I fell in love with the floral print, especially because the fabric had some glittery touches. I had planned to make a sleeveless blouse, but I decided to try a robe-style dress, in the Cottagecore style, which is based on rural life, nature, the countryside, flowers, etc. I didn't have any floral print clothes at home; part of me thought it wouldn't suit me, haha, but I guess I just needed to expand my wardrobe to change my mind 😆

Anyway, the first thing I did was fold the fabric and after deciding on the length I wanted the dress to be, I cut some long strips to use as straps.

When it came time to use the sewing machine, I folded the strips and sewed a straight seam along both edges, thus having the straps ready.

Next, I sewed the fabric for the dress closed on both sides. The bottom should be wider to create a flared effect, while the top should be based on my bust measurement. I also took the opportunity to check if I was happy with the length and shorten it if necessary.

Once that was done, I proceeded to hem both the top and bottom of the dress. For a more flirty effect, I added some lace. All that was left was to add the straps I had previously sewn on.

To avoid a too "straight" look, I added a small dart in the center of the bust, and I also sewed on a Suecitos label, which I usually sew onto all my creations. I recommend adding these kinds of details, even if it's just for personal use. I think it says, "This garment was made with lots of love" ✨

My initial plan was to leave the dress finished up to this point. But after thinking about it, I decided to add elastic at the waist so the dress would fit my body better and not make me look like a box (since I have a small bust, that's how I usually look in loose-fitting clothes 😆). Because the fabric is breathable, it wouldn't affect the dress's true purpose, which was to keep me comfortable in hot weather.

Similarly, I thought about adding an extra lining piece so I could wear the dress without a top (I don't wear bras because none of them fit me due to my flat chest 😆), since the ones I have are very visible and I didn't like how they looked. All it took was sewing this little piece onto the bust area and that was it.

And so, I finished making a simple dress with straps ✨ As you can see, you don't need the most expensive materials, or even a lot of them, to make something beautiful. With your measurements and a little imagination, you just have to be brave enough to give it a try.

I already wore the dress out and confirmed not only how well it was sewn, but also how comfortable and cool I felt wearing it. Not to mention, I got a few looks for my outfit, where I paired the dress with a floral hat and a mini vest. You can see those photos here.

If you wish, you can use a full lining and wear your dresses or shirts without an undergarment, although in my case, I like to wear something simple underneath and sheer tops. With the leftover fabric, I made a scrunchie with some lace. Because we know you should use every last scrap of fabric, haha.

¡Hola a todos los integrantes de esta comunidad y amantes de la costura! En esta oportunidad vengo a mostrarles un proyecto de costura que hice antes de mi viaje al campo. Resulta que había comprado por inercia (como todo amante de las telas 😆), unos trocitos de tela, porque sus estampados, me enamoraron. Al principio, había pensado en utilizar esa tela para caer unos lazos o ropa para vender, pero decidí hacer algo para mí, ya que me tenía abandonada en cuanto a proyectos personales jaja.

Para este vestido, utilicé 1/2 metro de tela con transparencia. Me enamoró el estampado de flores y más, porque la tela tenía algunos toquecitos escarchados. Tenía pensado hacer una blusa sin mangas, pero me atreví a intentar hacer un vestido tipo bata, al estilo Cottagecore, el cual es un estilo que se basa en la vida rural, la naturaleza, el campo, las flores, etc. No tenía ropa con estampado floreado en casa, una parte de mí pensaba que no me quedaba bien jaja pero supongo que sólo me bastaba con ampliar mi guardarropa para cambiar de idea 😆

En fin, lo primero que hice fue doblar la tela y tras decidir el largo que quería que tuviera el vestido, corté unas tiras largas para usarlas a modo de tirantes.

A la hora de pasar a la máquina de coser, doblé las tiras y realicé una costura recta por ambos bordes, teniendo así, los tirantes listos.

Lo siguiente, fue cerrar por ambos lados la tela que componería el vestido. La parte de abajo, debe quedar más ancha, para producir un efecto "acampanado", mientras que arriba, debemos guiarnos por la medida de nuestro pecho. También, aproveché de verificar si me convencía el largo del vestido, así como cortar si hacía falta.

Una vez hecho esto, procedí a hacer los dobladillo, tanto de la parte superior como de la inferior del vestido. Para un efecto más coqueto, le agregué algo de encaje. Lo que faltaba, era agregar los tirantes que había cosido previamente.

Para que no se viera tan "recto", realicé una pequeña pinza en la zona central del busto, así como aproveché de coser una etiqueta Suecitos, las cuales, suelo coser a todas mis creaciones. Les recomiendo agregar este tipo de detalles, así sea algo para uso personal. Pienso que es algo que dice "esta prenda fue hecha con mucho cariño" ✨

Mi pienso, era dejar el vestido listo hasta éste punto. Pero, tras pensarlo, pensé en añadirle una goma en la zona de la cintura, esto para que el vestido acabara por ceñirse a mi cuerpo y no me viera como um cuadrado (como tengo busto pequeño, así me suelo ver con piezas que me quedan holgadas 😆). Como la tela es fresca, no afectaría el propósito real del vestido, el cual era, sentirme cómoda en tiempos calurosos.

De la misma forma, pensé en añadirle una pieza extra de forro, para usar el vestido sin necesidad de un top (no uso brassiers porque ninguno me queda por lo plana que soy 😆), ya que los que tengo son muy visibles y no me gustaba cómo se veían. Bastó con coser esta piecita en la parte del busto y listo.

De esta forma, finalicé con la fabricación de un vestido sencillo con tirantes ✨ Como pueden ver, no hace falta tener los más costosos materiales y nisiquiera mucho de ello para poder fabricar algo lindo. Teniendo nuestras medidas y algo de imaginación, sólo hay que atreverse.

Ya usé el vestido para salir y confirmé no sólo lo bien que me quedó cosido, sino lo cómodo y fresca que me sentí usándolo, sin mencionar que recibí algunas miradas por mi outfit, en dónde acompañé el vestido con un sombrero floreado y un mini chaleco. Pueden ver esas fotografías aquí.

Si lo desean, pueden utilizar una pieza de forro completa y usar sus vestidos o camisas si necesidad de una pieza interna, aunque en mi caso, me gusta usar algo sencillo debajo y arriba, las prendas con transparencias. De lo que me sobró de la tela, hice un scrunchie con algo de encaje. Porque sabemos que se debe utilizar hasta el último trocito de tela ja ja.
