I'm going to tell you a secret. I learned to knit amigurumis by knitting chicks. 😄😂
It was 2012 and I was obsessed with learning how to knit amigurumis. I searched the internet for a pattern and zaz I selected the easiest one. Of course it was a newly hatched chick.
With pattern, needles and yarn in hand I approached my mom and said: "teach me how to knit this" ... the rest is history, it's been 10 years since I started in this world that has given me so many gratifications. It is my best meditation therapy. My escape when I'm stressed or when I have my ideas in a labyrinth, where I can't find the way out.
I don't remember how many chicks I knitted at that time. I know there were many and I gave them all away. Well all the amigurumis I knit are given as gifts. The only amigurumi I haven't given away for obvious reasons is the #Hive bee.
Two weeks ago we celebrated birthdays of the month in my biodanza group. With so many busy last weeks I had no idea what to knit, so I obviously went for the easiest thing: chicks.
The celebration was for 3 classmates. Each one with a very peculiar personality, so I decided to knit the chicks out of their shells with different colors: each color would define her. For example, for my friend Tanja the chick was green, because she is pro mother earth. For Olga the chick was purple because she is constant transformation and finally for Morella the chick was orange because she is pure joy. Each one was delighted.
Procedure
The body of each chick is a little ball, so we start with a magic ring of 5 chains and half stitches. We make increases until we reach the desired size, in my case I made increases until I reached half the size of the palm of my hand, because I wanted them small. Then I made several rounds in half stitches until I reached the desired height and from there I started with reductions. I filled and closed.
The wings and tail were made by knitting a triangle with half stitches. I started with 3 half stitches and made increases. I sewed them to the body of the chick. I knitted the legs starting from 7 chains, returned by knitting 4 half stitches and then knitted 3 chains for the two little fingers. As for the beak and the eyes, I embroidered them. The hair I knitted 4 rounds of yarn and glued it with silicone.
I knitted the shell in yellow. I made two shells, one at the base and the other as a hat. I started with a magic ring of 5 chains. I made increases in half stitches, as needed, and finally I made a fan stitch to give the shape of the split shell. And that's it!

Corría el año 2012 y yo estaba obsesionada por aprender a tejer amigurumis. Busqué en internet un patrón y zaz seleccioné el más fácil. Por supuesto era un pollito recién salido de su cascarón.
Con patrón, agujas e hilo en mano me acerqué a mi mamá y le dije: “enséñame a tejer esto” … lo demás es historia, ya han pasado 10 años desde que me inicié en este mundo que tantas gratificaciones me ha dado. Es mi mejor terapia de meditación. Mi escape cuando estoy estresada o tengo las ideas en un laberinto, donde no encuentro la salida.
No recuerdo cuantos pollitos tejí en esa época. Sé que fueron muchos y todos los regalé. Bueno todos los amigurumis que tejo los regalo. El único amigurumi que no he regalado por razones obvias es la abejita de #Hive.
Hace dos semanas celebramos los cumpleañeros del mes en mi grupo de biodanza. Con tantas ocupaciones en las últimas semanas no tenía idea que tejer, así que me fui evidentemente por lo más fácil: pollitos.
La celebración era para 3 compañeras. Cada una con una personalidad muy peculiar, así que decidí tejer los pollitos salidos de su cascaron con colores diferentes: cada color la definiría. Por ejemplo para mi amiga Tanja el pollito era verde, pues ella es pro madre tierra. Para Olga el pollito era morado pues ella es transformación constante y finalmente para Morella el pollito era naranja pues ella es alegría pura. Cada una quedó encantada.
Procedimiento
El cuerpo de cada pollito es una bolita, así que partimos de un anillo mágico de 5 cadenetas y medio puntos. Se hacen aumentos hasta lograr el tamaño deseado, en mi caso hice aumentos hasta alcanzar la mitad de la palma de mi mano, pues los quería pequeños. Luego hice varias vueltas en medio puntos hasta alcanzar la altura deseada y a partir de allí inicié con reducciones. Rellené y cerré.
Las alas y la cola las hice tejiendo un triángulo con medio puntos. Partí de 3 medio puntos y fui haciendo aumentos. Los cosí al cuerpo del pollito. Las patitas las hice partiendo de 7 cadenetas, retorné tejiendo 4 medio puntos y luego tejí 3 cadenetas para los dos deditos. En cuanto al pico y los ojos los bordé. El cabello hice 4 vueltas de hilos y lo pegué con silicón.
El cascarón lo tejí en amarillo. Hice dos uno en la base y el otro como un sombrero. Partí de un anillo mágico de 5 cadenetas. Hice aumentos en medio punto, según convenía y finalmente hice punto abanico para dar la forma de la cascara partida. Y eso es todo!

Uff knitting them smaller and making them into key chains is a great idea. The only bad thing is that I can't knit so small because my little eyes don't allow me to see the detail of the stitches.

Tambien estoy muy feliz de estar por aquí. Ya ha bajado la intensidad de ciertas obligaciones y ahora tengo un poco mas de tiempo para crear.

Yes, this is where the story began with chicks. I remember that I became so obsessive with them that once I knitted a double amigurumi, one side was an egg and then I turned it into a chick. I think I'm going to try it again.

Hola, no me imagino a alguien por allí regalando esos pollitos, están lindos. Recuerdo que tejí uno como muestra de lo rápido que se puede tejer algo sin patrón, aunque era tamaño llavero, tenía unos 4cm de altura.
Creo que tejeré un pollito para el árbol de Navidad y así cada año hasta tener una docena de pollitos, jaja. Siento que esos pollitos alegran y decoran el ambiente. Un abrazo.
