Accepting @needleworkmonday's Challenge, to see her post click here, I decided to post on the last day, precisely because today is International Women's Day. When I read the challenge, I couldn't help but think of one of the most iconic women in Latin America and she is Frida Kahlo. One of the big reasons is that her clothing was totally authentic and the flower headdress has gone around the world.

Aceptando el Challenge de @needleworkmonday, para ver su post haz click aquí, decidí publicar el último día, precisamente porque hoy es el día Internacional de La Mujer. Cuando leí el challenge, no pude evitar en pesar en una de las mujeres más icónicas de América Latina y ella es Frida Kahlo. Una de las grandes razones que es su indumentaria era totalmente autentica y el tocado de flores en la cabeza ha dado la vuelta al mundo.
Frida Kahlo was a Mexican painter and I have always found her life fascinating, because despite the adversities she was a woman with an unbreakable temper, who managed to make catharsis through her work. Her life took place between 1907 and 1954. Against the current of the time, she was married and still showed to be a self-sufficient and strong woman, which is why she is considered a symbol of feminism.
So to celebrate International Women's Day, I decided to weave a flower headband, just as Frida Kahlo wore them and as we have seen her in her most representative photos.
Frida Kahlo fue una pintora Méxicana y su vida siempre me ha parecido fascinante, pues a pesar de las adversidades fue una mujer con un temple inquebrantable, quien logró hacer catarsis a través de su obra. Su vida se desarrolló entre 1907 y 1954. Contra la corriente de la época, estuvo casada y aun así mostró ser una mujer autosuficiente y fuerte, por lo que es considerada símbolo del feminismo.
Así que para celebrar el día Internacional de La Mujer, decidí tejer una diadema de flores, tal y como las usaba Frida Kahlo y como la hemos visto en sus fotos más representativas.
I made the flowers in red, yellow and fuscia. Using a chochet needle, I mounted 50 chain stitches and then knitted 50 rods. Then I made the fan stitch, rolled and sewed.
For the leaves, using green yarn, I knit 25 chain stitches and then knit 50 rods.
Every headband has a headband, so using black colored yarn, I knit 150 chain stitches, and knit two rows with purl stitches.
Hice las flores en colores rojo, amarillo y fuscia. Usando aguja para chochet, monté 50 cadenetas y luego tejí 50 varetas. Seguidamente hice el punto abanico, enrolle y cosí.
Para las hojas, usando hilo color verde, tejí 25 cadenetas y dando una vuelta, tejí 50 varetas.
Toda diadema tiene un cintillo, así que usando hilo en color negro, monte 150 cadenetas, y di dos vueltas con puntos vareta.
Finally, using a wool needle, I sewed all the parts together. The result is the iconic symbol of Frida Kahlo and her feminism. To make it more real, I applied makeup and a shawl like the ones she used to wear. I hope I represented her image well.
