Pink SuperMoon - MyPictureDay Submission

in My Picture Day4 years ago

Hopefully, despite the circumstances in which we all currently live, you have nice Easter holidays.
I wasn't sure what and if I should post anything this Easter Sunday, ...

Pink Super Full Moon
#MyPictureDay Submission

... but it is now late morning, everything is quiet, the children are still sleeping and the family visits and reunions that we usually do for Easter are not possible this year anyway.

So why shouldn't I prepare a post about the beautiful Supermoon that I photographed a few days ago and schedule it for tonight?

So, because of the announced Supermoon, I was at the reservoir a couple of days ago early in the morning and therefore also had the large and heavy Sigma telephoto zoom lens with me.

From the meadow by the reservoir I had a clear view of the full moon and was able to take comparative photos with the Sigma at 600 mm and the Canon lens at 200 mm. The difference is of course huge - I cropped both photos square to 3000x3000 pixels so that they can be compared better.

Maybe one day I'll buy a double teleconverter - then you should almost be able to see the man in the moon watching us with his binoculars.

The Moon

The moon was but a chin of gold
A night or two ago,
And now she turns her perfect face
Upon the world below.

Her forehead is of amplest blond;
Her cheek like beryl stone;
Her eye unto the summer dew
The likest I have known.

Her lips of amber never part;
But what must be the smile
Upon her friend she could bestow
Were such her silver will!

And what a privilege to be
But the remotest star!
For certainly her way might pass
Beside your twinkling door.

Her bonnet is the firmament,
The universe her shoe,
The stars the trinkets at her belt,
Her dimities of blue.

by Emily Dickinson

The moon photos are fine, but in the end relatively uninteresting. So I had to play a little with Photoshop and include one of my favorite trees that I had photographed again two days earlier.

After taking these photos, I drove back home and was able to take some more nice photos of the "Pink Supermoon" on the way, which is actually not pink.

The sky and mountain (Mittagskogel) were colored in the morning pink, but of course the moon was not. The "Pink Supermoon" has got its name from a pink blooming spring wildflower called Phlox subulata (creeping phlox, moss phlox or also known as moss pink).

But I have to edit these photos first and will post them in the next few days.

Happy Easter!
Stay at home, take care and stay healthy!
Frohe Ostern!

2020-04-12 - Easter Sunday
Sort:

I think the picture of the tree in front of the moon (or the moon behind the tree, depending how you look at it) is incredible. Fantastic shot.

I always wanted to make such a shot, but I have never found a tree which was nice enough and which is on the path of the moon, so this composite was my only chance to get such a picture ;)
Thank you very much for your nice comment Victor, I appreciate it a lot 🙂

Awesome moon shots Johann. Great edits - looks a bit like Japanese art with the tree in front of the moon.
The moon on the tip of the mountain is fabulous.
Happy Easter!

I have seen an Instagram post from a british photographer and thought I have the better tree, but it was a lot of work to the finished images ;)
On my way home that day I have seen the moon over this mountain and fortunately found a parking lot on a hill where I could take some hand held photos like this one :)

Thank you very much for your nice compliments Jo, I hope you two have a nice Easter Sunday 🙂

Wonderful photo. 🤗You have the impression that you can touch the moon. I went out that night to see, it was great but so far away. Tomorrow night came out huge and crimson ... slowly turned orange .I hope you and your family are well.
Have nice evening @johannpiber😊

Good evening @suzana72 🙂

The lens zoomed the moon nice and big ;) A follow up post will come tonight.

Thank you very much for your kind comment 🙂 and yes, we are all fine, just as you hopefully are too.

Thank you very much for rehiving my post, dear @pixresteemer 🙂

WOW that composite shot is absolutely brilliant love it

Thank you JJ 😀
I think seeking for a tree where the full moon moves behind would have been easier than this Photoshop edit ;) lol
I hope you have a good day and you're fine.

Very nice photos of the moon! It looks so near! I could almost see the rabbit on the moon!

With these long lenses you can get really close to the moon, thank you that you like the photos @kaminchan 🙂
I wish you a great week and stay safe and healthy.

Thank you very much for your kind concern.

You are very welcome dear @kaminchan 🙂

Johann, your Moon is bigger and most convincing then all others i've seen here!
(and I, myself, didn shoot it at all. silly me).

I think I was very lucky that morning to have a very clear view, also with the other photos with the pink morning sky and the mountain. And I was lucky that I had thought to take the 600mm lens with me :)

Good morning @qwerrie, I hope you are well and you've had a nice Easter weekend although all these measures we have.

600mm! just wow :=) is it heavy? do you use it with tripod?

150-600 mm, and yes, it is heavy ... the about 2.6 Kilos including camera are weighing double after a while 🤪
For the moon and other not fast moving objects I use a tripod, but mostly I shoot hand held with burst mode - one out of a few shots is always pretty sharp 😉

mdaaaaa... that is harsh. probably not for me.
but one cannot have success everywhere, right?

PS. may I show you my version of the same plot? (made 2 years ago, same plot, but yours is better)

lite4 IMG_8445w.jpg

oh, and the Moon is artificial, used only 50mm on it :))))

Looks cool, and the moon would look almost real if this metal framing wouldn't be there 🙂

Fantastic composition with supermoon.
Easter 🐣 is very quiet for us, for obvious reasons.
But we got really great weather.

Have a good night @johannpiber.

Good morning and thank you so much @cezary-io 🙂
I always wanted to make such a photo, but with tree it is not possible to get also the moon in the photo, so I had to make thi scomposite.
These were my first photos of a supermoon, but I'll have a look when the next one will be and until then I'll try to find a nice tree... ;)

We have also been only at home, didn't even go out for a walk. Easter Monday is a holiday here and tomorrow begins a short working week for me.
Have a great week and stay safe and healthy my friend.

I really liked the tree against the moon background. Very cool photo

I wanted to make such a composite image for a long time and this time I did it - thank you very much that you like it my friend 🙂

Wonderful photos! I hope all is well.

Thank you so much @melinda010100, it was a nice morning and the sky was perfect for these shots 🙂
Yes, everything is fine and we are well - hopefully you and your family too.

The shots are amazing and the edit with the tree stands out. Brilliant work.

Good morning and thank you very much for your nice comment on my photos Neli 🙂
Have a great day and take care to stay healthy.

Those are beautiful shots of the Pink Moon! Congratulations on your win! And thanks for sharing!

It is always a pleasure for me to share my photos here - thank you very much for your kind compliment on the photos @porters 🙂

Question: what win?

Great photos. A tree against the background of the moon looks very interesting.
Johann you're great! :)

I appreciate your nice comment @bambuka, thanks a lot 🙂
This is just Photoshop work, but I have shot both photos ;)

The moon is just awesome ! :)

Yes, this Sigma 600mm lens is great for such photos 🙂
