On the occasion of buying a new TV set, I decided to watch a spectacular movie. I wanted it to be something I haven't seen yet - so as not to get bored. I opted for one of Fox's last movies (before these were bought by Disney). I was planning to watch "Battle Angel Alita" some time ago, but there was still some explanation - I wanted something else, there was an interesting Netflix series or movie, I didn't feel like it, I had to make up some anime for review etc. HBO didn't add "Peacemker", there was nothing interesting on Netflix, so right after S2E1 "Euphoria", I decided to watch an adaptation of one of the old manga with my girlfriend. And well, I generally agree with her, she rated it as "maybe". Because, in fact, it was pleasant to watch, but apart from the technology, the surprisingly high brutality and the very nice main character (thanks to which I experienced the script and the simplicity of this film quite smoothly), it was not very good. If it weren't for these things, maybe I would have ended the session prematurely. Starting from the end, it is generally not a very complicated production. I often felt like I was transported back to my childhood, when there was a movie for younger teenagers or the whole family on TV after cool Disney cartoons. Generally boring, especially since these were 3rd league images in which not much could be done due to the Disney logo. So a guarantee for parents that it will be the right picture that will not bother children (apart from some minor exceptions, like some of the Thanos soldiers from Marvel, I do not remember another production in which I would feel how Disney delicately steps on the border distinguishing PG-13 from a film for older recipients), and for children the certainty that they will see another, boring and safe production. It's so much better here that the director is Robert Rodriguez, who I'm not his fan.
In fact, until recently, I didn't even like his movies. That changed when I recently decided to revise my beliefs about people who are praised but for some reason I didn't like them. I still do not consider him an outstanding artist, but much further, he is quite weak in my eyes. He is good if he gets a project that really interests him and has an idea for it, he is able to do something very good. He can also break it, as the worse parts of "Spy Kids" showed, but I don't remember ever having any tragedy on his part. It is similar with the picture I am discussing. It has many weaker elements - a bit of a cheese romance (not on the part of the protagonist, but her boyfriend - her naivety is fully justified), too simple and schematic characters and plots. But he is not such a bad young-adult, although I think that Rosa Salazar, the actress who plays the main role, owes a lot to it. Thanks to her enthusiasm and nice appearance, not only did the film come in quite smoothly, but I also had a lot of fun and those 2 hours passed quickly. Her character, despite the naivety, which, as I have already mentioned, is justified (she is a young robot who learns to live), it all binds together. This boy of hers is completely random and anyone could be in his place, but thanks to the protagonist, I felt their relationship. Even though it was quite strange on his part ... Or otherwise, underdeveloped, because I am able to buy the fact that a boy will fall in love with such a person. It was enough for me to justify it better. The attitude of Christoph Waltz was much better justified, but I did not like the character itself. Nevertheless, it was played well and warmly, you can see that he is an experienced actor.
When it comes to brutality, I will not spoil you - you have to see for yourself how to transfer some scenes from "Mortal Kombat" to the movie for 13-year-olds and bypass the restrictions associated with it. It would be enough to add more screams and more substance acting as blood (of which there was little) and I wouldn't see much difference between one Fatality in perhaps 10 parts of the game and how Alita massacred one opponent. I'd heard a lot about it before the screening, but I didn't know the details. What I saw many times delighted and surprised me. Mainly thanks to technology. Faces, movements of cyborgs, the reality of this world, the detail of their fights (all the details looked very nice, you can see that it was not a cheap job), how does it all look in motion ... with a vision, it could turn into a good anime adaptation. Of course, I'm not saying that this one didn't look like that. He was beautiful! Watching this movie, at times I felt like I was watching the possibilities of the new Unreal Engine in "Matrix". I was surprised that such good things can be done now! Is it worth watching? Hmm, let me say this - if you don't mind the things I wrote about earlier, then yes. And even if it is, it is worth keeping these 2 hours to see a show of great technology. I rate "Battle Angel Alita" on 6/10, but with a big heart.
Z okazji zakupienia nowego telewizora, postanowiłem obejrzeć jakiś efektowny film. Chciałem by było to coś, czego jeszcze nie widziałem - żeby się nie nudzić. Zdecydowałem się na jeden z ostatnich filmów Foxa (nim ci zostali kupieni przez Disneya). Miałem w planach obejrzeć "Battle Angel Alita" już jakiś czas temu, ale ciągle było jakieś wytłumaczenie - miałem ochotę na coś innego, wyszedł jakiś ciekawy serial na Netflixie lub film, nie miałem na niego ochoty, musiałem nadrobić jakieś anime do recenzji etc. HBO nie dodało "Peacemkera", na Netflixie nie było nic ciekawego, więc zaraz po S2E1 "Euphoria", postanowiłem obejrzeć z moją dziewczyną, adaptację jednej ze starych mang. I cóż, generalnie się z nią zgadzam, oceniła go jako "może być". Bo w istocie, przyjemnie się go oglądało, ale pomijając technologię, zaskakująco dużą brutalność i bardzo sympatyczną główną bohaterkę (dzięki której dość gładko przeżyłem scenariusz i prostotę tego filmu), to nie było zbyt dobrze. Gdyby nie te rzeczy, to być może przedwcześnie zakończyłbym wspólny seans. Zaczynając od końca, generalnie nie jest to zbyt skomplikowana produkcja. Często czułem się jakbym przeniósł się do czasu dzieciństwa, gdy w telewizji po fajnych kreskówkach Disneya, leciał jakiś film dla młodszych nastolatków lub całej rodziny. Generalnie nuda, zwłaszcza że to były obrazy z 3 ligi, w których niewiele można było zrobić z uwagi na logo Disneya. Czyli gwarancja dla rodziców, że będzie to odpowiedni obraz, który nie sprawi traumy dzieciom (poza drobnymi wyjątkami, jak niektórzy żołnierze Thanosa z Marvela, nie przypominam sobie innej produkcji, w której czułbym, jak Disney delikatne stąpa po granicy odróżniającej PG-13 od filmu dla starszych odbiorców), zaś dla dzieci pewność, że zobaczą kolejną, nudną i bezpieczną produkcję. Tutaj jest o tyle lepiej, że reżyserem jest Robert Rodriguez, którego nie jestem jego fanem.
Prawdę powiedziawszy, do niedawna nawet nie lubiałem jego filmów. Zmieniło się to, gdy niedawno temu postanowiłem zrewidować swoje przekonania na temat ludzi, którzy są chwaleni, ale z jakiś powodów mi nie przypadli do gustu. Nadal nie uważam go za wybitnego twórcę, ale dużo dalej, jest mu do słabego w moich oczach. Jest dobry, jeżeli dostanie projekt, który go naprawdę zainteresuje i ma na niego pomysł, to jest w stanie zrobić coś bardzo dobrego. Potrafi też go popsuć, jak pokazały te gorsze części "Spy Kids", ale nie przypominam sobie, byśmy kiedyś dostali jakąś tragedię z jego strony. Podobnie jest z omawianym przeze mnie obrazem. Ma wiele słabszych elementów - trochę cheese'owy romans (nie ze strony protagonistki, a jej chłopaka - jej naiwność jest w pełni uzasadniona), zbyt proste i schematyczne postacie i wątki. Ale nie jest w sumie takim złym young-adult, aczkolwiek wydaje mi się że duża w tym zasługa Rosy Salazar, aktorki wcielającą się w główną rolę. Dzięki jej entuzjazmowi i sympatycznej aparycji, nie dość, że film wszedł mi dość gładko, to jeszcze bawiłem się naprawdę nieźle i te 2 godziny szybko mi minęły. Jej postać mimo naiwności, która jak już wspominałem, jest uzasadniona (to młody robot, który uczy się życia), wszystko to spaja. Ten jej chłopak, jest kompletnie randomowy i na jego miejscu mógłby być ktokolwiek, ale dzięki protagonistce, czułem ich relację. Mimo że była ona dość dziwna z jego strony... Albo inaczej, słabo rozwinięta, bo jestem w stanie kupić fakt, że chłopak zakocha się w takiej osobie. Wystarczyło mi to lepiej uzasadnić. Postawa Christopha Waltza, była już dużo lepiej uzasadniona, ale sama postać nie przypadła mi do gustu. Niemniej, została nieźle i ciepło zagrana, widać że to doświadczony aktor.
Jeśli chodzi o brutalność, to nie będę spoilerował - musicie się sami przekonać, jak przenieść niektóre sceny z "Mortal Kombat" do filmu dla 13-latków i ominąć związane z tym ograniczenia. Wystarczyłoby dodać więcej krzyków i więcej substancji działającej jako krew (której było niewiele) i nie widziałbym większej różnicy między jednym Fatality z bodajże 10 części gry, a tym jak Alita zmasakrowała jednego przeciwnika. Wiele o tym słyszałem przed seansem, ale nie znałem szczegółów. To co zobaczyłem, niejednokrotnie mnie niesamowicie uradowało i zaskakiwało Głównie dzięki technologii. Twarze, ruchy cyborgów, prawdziwość tego świata, szczegółowość ich walk (wszystkie detale wyglądały bardzo ładnie, widać że to nie była tania robota), to jak to wszystko wygląda w ruchu... Gdyby studio dysponujące dużymi środkami, dało możliwość pracy jakiemuś utalentowanemu twórcy z wizją, to mogłaby z tego powstać dobra adaptacja niejednego anime. Oczywiście nie mówię, że ten tak nie wyglądał. Był piękny! Oglądając ten film, czułem się momentami jakbym oglądał możliwości nowego Unreal Engine w "Matrix". Byłem zdziwiony, że teraz można zrobić takie dobre rzeczy! Czy warto go obejrzeć? Hm, powiem tak - jeśli nie przeszkadzają Wam rzeczy, o których wcześniej napisałem, to tak. A nawet jeśli, to warto wytrzymać te 2 godziny, by zobaczyć pokaz świetnej technologii. Oceniam "Battle Angel Alita" na 6/10, ale z dużym serduszkiem.
