Yeah, that "free speech absolutist" isn't living up to his claim. Hive is simply superior. As you said, we can mute people we don't want to see. We can also downvote truly abusive behavior.

I do need to challenge the "you can't shout, 'fire,' in a crowded theater" argument. It's no more a violation of free speech to thwart that than it is a violation of free speech for you to prevent me from shouting though a megaphone in your living room. It's preventing a property rights violation, not committing a speech violation.

Awaits "The fuck you taking about, dude" response

Welp, you won't be getting the "fuck you talking about, dude" response from me. 😂

I get what you're saying, and it makes sense to me. Sort of goes along with the whole "you have freedom of speech, but not freedom from consequences as a result of what you say" kind of thing. And it seems to me that the people that cry the loudest about their "freedom" being infringed upon are usually (not always) the ones who don't seem to understand the concept of personal responsibility. But that's a rant for another time. 😆

And then there is the matter of natural consequences (social ostracism for racists) versus authoritarian nonsense (social media penalties for dissent mislabeled as abuse) versus police state abuse (non-crimes punished by fines and imprisonment, even including "misgendering") all conflated under the umbrella term of "consequences."

Witch hunts and McCarthyism just changed targets, and remain unjust.
