RE: The Fall Webworm - "Hyphantria Cunea"

Great article. I am so happy to contribute with my photos. ☺
I must say I haven't seen the moth ever since, but I also haven't looked very carefully. Interesting how it was imported in Europe.
Nowadays there are special requirements for the cargos shipped on wooden pallets or any ither wooden packaging. The pallets must be fumigated or heat threated to prevent transferring insects from one place to another.

Thank you very much for letting me use them @nelinoeva ^^.. We have now two reported spots in Europe ^^ .. This special control is so important if you sent cargo. Airports are super effective in controlling these things, but cargo ships already helped in migrating so many species .. I once heard that someone was bitten a transported spider that was hiding in vegetables 😲

Oh dear, that is not pleasant, putting it mildly, to be bitten by a spider this way.

I remember once phytosanitary control was made in our warehouse because of goods delivered from Portugal. The trouble is that within EU there could be also possible problem for bringing unwanted species. So, it was ascertained that a worm was brought in Bulgaria from Portugal with some wooden pallets. The check was made in each company that has delivery from Portugal to trace the source.

Sounds like a real worm hunt 😁 .. As long as they do not cause problems it can be an enrichment ^^ .. But som imported species, sduch as Chinese ladybirds are known for killing the European ladybirds for example .. Since globalization started to get serious, many species probably already migrated all aroundtthe world .. It must be so hard to track all these movements 🤔 but is also super interesting 😀
