🎄 SPOOKY CHRISTMAS - BOOK REVIEW

"After reading this book, Christmas will never be the same again."

The subjects of individual stories are really diverse. We will meet here a demon, a werewolf, a vengeful Santa, a serial killer, an abandoned lover seeking revenge, a demonic sect or cyborgs who have power over people.

Spooky Christmas was meant to show the holidays from the dark and brutal side. What we associate with a time of joy, family warmth and hope was supposed to cause fear here. “You won't want to celebrate. Forever ”- such shivering words scream from the cover of the book. But with each page and each story, the disappointment grows greater and greater. Some stories have absolutely nothing to do with Christmas, and in others the action takes place in winter or during the holidays, and this is actually the only reference. Basic Christmas symbols are definitely missing here, and at the same time there is no doubt about the time when the action takes place and what specific period it concerns. And yes, you can move the story to another season of the year and it would not affect the content itself. Unfortunately, the reader expected something completely different after the information on the book's cover.

The book is not very extensive, and contains as many as ten stories, so obviously these are very short and not very engaging stories. Some of them even resemble a sketch which, after adding a few plots and characters, will create a separate, independent work. And in its present form, it is the first, yet unfinished outline of the book. What allows the reader to get to the end of the book is first of all hope and curiosity - maybe the next story will finally be the right reference to Christmas - and quality, we have only award-winning authors here, so it reads quite fluently. However, there are also unclear, insufficiently described elements, but this is certainly due to the fact that they were supposed to be only short stories, so there was not enough room for exhaustive descriptions and explanations.

The book most honestly should be described as a collection of short stories on the border of fantasy and horror. They would surely find many supporters among fantasy literature lovers. On the other hand, those who want to experience the title spooky holidays on the pages of the book will only lose time. Despite the fact that the stories are not so bad, they have nothing to do with the assumed theme, so it is difficult to recommend the whole, in its present form.
