The beauty of the nude in the art.

in Nerday3 years ago

There is nothing wrong, inadmissible or morbid in the human body and art itself is not morbid. The morbidness is in the mind of the beholder.

I came across that quote one day when I was doing a school essay on the representation of the body in art, and it has stuck with me to this day. Sadly, I don't remember the author of it, so I owe you the source...

Beyond the canons of beauty that prevail in today's world, the human body is beautiful, in all its sizes and statures, and, for an artist, whose sensitivity does not escape the human body (or human nudity), he sees in nudity something of sublime and divine character, something that goes far beyond morbidness, eroticism or vulgarity; he sees in the human body forms, volumes, movement; he finds beauty.

The nude is education, so the interpretation of it will depend on the context of the image and our education based on the nude.

For me, drawing nudes is a delight. To observe the volumes that form the body according to the position that the model takes and capture it on paper, to play with shadows and lights... the expressiveness or tranquility, the solidity or lightness, the affliction or emotion that a person can reflect not only by his posture, but by the aura that surrounds him, and to be able to capture all those things with a brush or pencil... it is fascinating.

My drawing style is usually quite delicate (if we talk about technique), that's why (perhaps unconsciously) I use female figures to capture my ideas in my works, because their bodies tend to have softer and thinner volumes, however, I find the male body fascinating in equal measure, it is very interesting how the shadows provide more volume and define the muscles that cover the body, as well as the dynamism and natural strength that these reflect...

Personally, I grew up in an open-minded family environment, where the nude in my drawings is not judged but rather appreciated and seen as what it is: art; however I have friends and classmates who still see this subject as a taboo (eye, I respect their way of thinking. This does not affect my vision of the world or approach to my drawings).
