Well, what have we here? This is a store exclusive work for Aftershock's Nuclear Family issue 1. The cover art was done by Neil Nelson; the book has only 300 copies in existence. I bought this for two reasons, really:

  • The artwork, which I think is fantastic
  • The story on Nuclear Family

The comic series is based on a PKD story called Breakfast at Twilight. I read the issue last night and it immediately drew me in. It features a 1950's "nuclear family", a setting in 1957 Milwaukee, Wisconsin (Milwaukee Braves, anyone?), and a nuclear bomb that is denoted over the city (assuming it was deployed by the Soviets). Things go highly weird once the family wakes up after the bomb explodes.

PKD is responsible for The Man in the High Castle, so a similar theme is present in this story. Parallel worlds, parallel realities, and the ability of a nuclear detonation to blend realities together. Issue number one was pretty good, and I'll be picking up he next one on a future date.

Check it out if you like alternate reality stories, cold war history, or if you are PK Dick fan.
