Buenos días a toda la gente linda de esta comunidad. Hoy les quiero compartir una obra de arte en óleo en la que llevo trabajando aproximadamente 7 años. El porqué de tanto tiempo para culminarla es la magnitud de la obra, y lo costoso del material. Es por eso que hoy quiero compartir con ustedes algunas técnicas y tips que implementé para poder culminar este cuadro, ya que el tiempo pasaba y no lo lograba.
Good morning to all the beautiful people of this community. Today I want to share with you an oil work of art that I have been working on for approximately 7 years. The reason for so much time to complete it is the magnitude of the work, and the cost of the material. That is why today I want to share with you some techniques and tips that I implemented to be able to complete this painting, since time passed and I could not do it.
Cuando lo inicié, compré un kit de pinturas de óleo de diversos colores, y compré un tubo grande de pintura de óleo blanca. Mis paisajes favoritos son todos los que tienen agua, bien sea mar, ríos, o lagos. Escogí un paisaje del estado Mérida donde se reflejara la montaña nevada, los frailejones y el riachuelo, que son parte esencial de nuestro Pico Bolívar. Poco a poco fui dándole cuerpo a mi paisaje y para disminuir el tono de los colores, el blanco era esencial. De esa manera se me terminó el tubo de pintura blanca y compré uno más pequeño que tampoco duró mucho tiempo. Es que solamente con las montañas nevadas su contenido iba a durar poco, por lo que tuve que ponerle pausa a mi obra, y la colgué para que fuera secando un poco.
When I started it, I bought a kit of oil paints in various colors, and I bought a large tube of white oil paint. My favorite landscapes are all those that have water, be it sea, rivers, or lakes. I chose a landscape of the Mérida state where the snowy mountain, the frailejones and the stream were reflected, which are an essential part of our Pico Bolívar. Little by little I was giving body to my landscape and to diminish the tone of the colors, white was essential. That way I ran out of white paint tube and bought a smaller one that didn't last very long either. Is that only with the snowy mountains its content was going to last a short time, so I had to pause my work, and I hung it up to dry a bit.
Sabemos que la pintura de óleo tarda muchos años en secar, pero al menos la superficie con el tiempo va permitiendo colocar nuevas pinturas sobre ella sin que se mezclen ambas. Los años que mi cuadro pasó en la pared fueron suficientes como para intentar nuevas técnicas sobre el lienzo, sin riesgos de afectar su apariencia. Así que indagué un poco sobre el uso de pinturas acrílicas sobre óleo, y mientras el lienzo pintado ya esté bastante seco, se puede aplicar la pintura acrílica sin ningún tipo de mezcla, ni con agua, ni con aceite, ni con grandes cantidades de pintura de óleo, pero si se puede tomar una cantidad mínima si se desea cambiar la tonalidad del blanco, que fue mi caso.
We know that oil paint takes many years to dry, but at least the surface over time allows new paints to be placed on it without mixing the two. The years that my painting spent on the wall were enough to try new techniques on the canvas, without risk of affecting its appearance. So I did some research on the use of acrylic paints over oil, and as long as the painted canvas is already quite dry, the acrylic paint can be applied without any mixing, neither with water, nor with oil, nor with large amounts of paint. of oil, but you can take a minimum amount if you want to change the shade of white, which was my case.
De esta manera cubrí las montañas con una capa de pintura acrílica color blanco sin mezcla alguna. Aproveché la tonalidad anterior para semejar las sombras debajo de la nieve, y esperé un día a que secara totalmente la pintura acrílica para trazar nuevas sombras azuladas y grises sobre las montañas con pinturas de óleo blanco, negro y azul marino. Los frailejones se hicieron por completo con pinturas acrílicas, en este caso se usaron los colores blanco y verde claro. Sólo se aplicó un pequeño trazo de pintura verde oscuro de óleo para generar sombras en las hojas del frailejón. Las ramitas son de pintura acrílica al igual que las florecillas amarillas.
In this way I covered the mountains with a layer of white acrylic paint without any mixture. I took advantage of the previous tonality to resemble the shadows under the snow, and I waited one day for the acrylic paint to dry completely to trace new bluish and gray shadows on the mountains with white, black and navy blue oil paints. The frailejones were made entirely with acrylic paints, in this case the colors white and light green were used. Only a small stroke of dark green oil paint was applied to cast shadows on the frailejón leaves. The twigs are made of acrylic paint, as are the yellow flowers.
Una vez seca la pintura acrílica en el lapso de un día, se comenzaron a aplicar detalles en pintura de óleo de diversos colores en los árboles, piedras, riachuelo, y otros efectos más que le fueron dando vida al paisaje. Las mezclas de óleo se hicieron con una solución de aceite de linaza con trementina que aún conservo, la cual elaboré con las mismas cantidades de cada una. Ya su belleza se puede apreciar casi en su totalidad. El cuadro está 90% terminado, pero esperaré a que seque un poco la pintura de óleo para finiquitar algunos detalles que están pendientes, sobre todo en sombras, pero que no se pueden realizar aun ya que se mezclarían las pinturas.
Once the acrylic paint dried in the space of a day, details began to be applied in oil paint of different colors on the trees, stones, stream, and other effects that gave life to the landscape. The oil mixtures were made with a solution of linseed oil with turpentine that I still have, which I made with the same amounts of each. Already its beauty can be appreciated almost in its entirety. The painting is 90% finished, but I will wait for the oil paint to dry a bit to finalize some details that are pending, especially in shadows, but that cannot be done yet since the paints would be mixed.
Un tip importante es que aunque se pueden usar muchos tipos de aceite para disolver la pintura al óleo, el más recomendable es el aceite de linaza, y la trementina ya que permiten que la pintura seque un poco más rápido. Los demás aceites como natural, de oliva, o de bebé, hacen que tarde más el proceso de secado.
An important tip is that although many types of oil can be used to dissolve oil paint, the most recommended are linseed oil and turpentine as they allow the paint to dry a little faster. Other oils such as natural, olive, or baby, make the drying process take longer.
El efecto logrado sobre las montañas no se vio afectado al realizarse con pintura acrílica, ya que la nieve luce mejor opaca que brillante, y el detalle de las sombras un poco más brillantes hace que se destaquen aún más. Las hojas de los frailejones lograron su brillo al realizar las sombras con pinturas de óleo. Con eso queda demostrado que se puede usar pintura acrílica sobre un lienzo cubierto con oleo si éste está bastante seco y liso, pero mezclar estos dos tipos de pintura no es recomendable.
The effect achieved on the mountains was not affected by doing it with acrylic paint, as the snow looks better opaque than bright, and the slightly brighter shadow detail makes them stand out even more. The leaves of the frailejones achieved their shine by making the shadows with oil paints. This demonstrates that acrylic paint can be used on an oil-coated canvas if it is fairly dry and smooth, but mixing these two types of paint is not recommended.

Si se pueden usar ambos tipos de pintura en una sola obra, más no mezclarlos porque siempre va a predominar uno más que el otro al momento de plasmarlo en el lienzo... esa prueba también la hice. La acrílica tomaba el control, y dejaba rastros desiguales.
