¡Florecido día hacedores de maravillas!
Hoy he venido a mostrar el proceso de restauración de dos muñecas Kokeshi de madera, que con el tiempo la madera se resecó y una de ellas estaba a punto de abrirse por, una gran cicatriz se abría por la parte de atrás de su cabeza. En realidad no fue una restauración, más bien estuve nutriendo la madera y sellándola para que el mal no acabara con estas preciosas muñecas.
Me habría gustado hacer una restauración verdadera, pero lamentablemente no conozco su antiguo aspecto, aunque tiene marcas donde van las impresiones de color, pueden notarse en la imagen de portada en los escudos (o las mangas del kimono) de la figura de la izquierda, también desconocía el tipo de pintura con la que se pintó originalmente, y como no quería meter la pata, decidí solo hacer tratamiento a la madera.
Los materiales que usé los tenía ya en casa. Así que todo fue sencillo desde el principio. Siempre veo el programa de la TV por cable "La Restauradora de muebles", donde su presentadora siempre explica la mejor manera de tratar la madera, yo me salté uno de los pasos, precisamente porque no quería terminar de dañar la madera ni borrar los motivos florales que aún conservan las Kokeshi.
El paso omitido fue el lavado de la madera, que con el lijado dejamos la madera casi nueva, pero temía acabar definitivamente con este hermoso regalo, así que lo primero que hice fue aplicar una pasta de aceite de coco con un pincel, este aceite natural le proveerá la hidratación necesaria para detener el agrietamiento, y una vez aplicado por toda la superficie, comencé a frotar el aceite con un trapo limpio, así logré quitar cualquier suciedad que pudiera tener, y sacar un poco de brillo.

Today I have come to show the restoration process of two wooden Kokeshi dolls, that over time the wood dried out and one of them was about to open up because of, a big scar was opening up on the back of her head. It wasn't really a restoration, rather I was nourishing the wood and sealing it so that the evil wouldn't do away with these precious dolls.
I would have liked to do a real restoration, but unfortunately I don't know its old aspect, although it has marks where the color impressions go, you can notice them in the cover image on the shields (or the sleeves of the kimono) of the figure on the left, I also didn't know the type of paint with which it was originally painted, and as I didn't want to mess up, I decided to just treat the wood.
The materials I used were already at home. So everything was simple from the beginning. I always watch the cable TV show "The Furniture Restorer", where the host always explains the best way to treat wood, I skipped one of the steps, precisely because I didn't want to end up damaging the wood or erase the floral motifs that the Kokeshi still have.
The omitted step was the washing of the wood, that with the sanding we left the wood almost new, but I was afraid to finish definitely with this beautiful gift, so the first thing I did was to apply a paste of coconut oil with a brush, this natural oil will provide the necessary hydration to stop the cracking, and once applied all over the surface, I began to rub the oil with a clean cloth, so I managed to remove any dirt that might have, and get a little shine.

Luego lo dejé reposar mientras le colocaba el aceite a la figura masculina que, desde atrás veía asustado lo que le hacía a su novia. El cambio fue inmediato. Los dejé reposar, esperando que la madera absorbiera el aceite lo más posible. Y Le apliqué una segunda mano de este baño de aceite a las dos piezas, los dejé reposar nuevamente y los volví a frotar. Tuve cuidado de cubrir todas las superficies, y así con la ayuda del pincel llevé esta pasta de coco incluso en la base, debajo de las mangas (o escudos) del chico Kokeshi.
Then I let it sit while I put the oil on the male figure who, from behind, watched in fear what I was doing to his girlfriend. The change was immediate. I let it sit, waiting for the wood to absorb as much of the oil as possible. I applied a second coat of this oil bath to the two pieces, let them sit again and rubbed them again. I was careful to cover all the surfaces, and so with the help of the brush I took this coconut paste even on the base, under the sleeves (or shields) of the Kokeshi boy.

Una vez envueltos en aceite y frotados mis Kokeshi se veían hermosos, la madera retomó el brillo ancestral y parecía tener vida, ya no tenía ese aspecto seco que detestaba. Incluso le apliqué el aceite en la enorme grieta de sus espalda, tratando de detener su deterioro. Pero como al tomarlo en las manos se sentía una textura aceitosamente desagradable (a pesar de que le quité el exceso con un paño de algodón), pensé que debía sellar toda la superficie, y como en el programa de TV usa cera para este fin y yo no tengo, le pasé una vela blanca por toda la superficie.
Once wrapped in oil and rubbed my Kokeshi looked beautiful, the wood regained the ancestral shine and seemed to have life, it no longer had that dry look that I hated. I even applied the oil to the huge crack on its back, trying to stop its deterioration. But since it had an oily, unpleasant texture when I took it in my hands (even though I removed the excess with a cotton cloth), I thought I should seal the whole surface, and since the TV program uses wax for this purpose and I don't have any, I ran a white candle over the whole surface.
Y no solo adquirió un brillo repentino cuando traté de pulir la cera con el paño, también se quitó esa sensación grasosa al tacto. Como la vela soltaba pequeñas escamas de cera, comencé a frotar esas escamas sobre la madera y el resultado fue fabuloso. Era el toque que le faltaba. Ahora mis muñecas tiene un aspecto saludable a la espera de que algún conocedor del arte japonés me ayude a restaurar en serio estas muñecas ancestrales, milenarias, hermosas, divertidas ancestros del anime y la cultura kawaii.
And not only did it take on a sudden shine when I tried to polish the wax with the cloth, it also took off that greasy feel to the touch. As the candle was releasing small flakes of wax, I started rubbing those flakes on the wood and the result was fabulous. It was the touch it was missing. Now my dolls have a healthy look waiting for some Japanese art connoisseur to help me to seriously restore these ancestral, millenary, beautiful, fun, ancestral dolls of anime and kawaii culture.

Que lindas muñequitos tienes, y de verdad hiciste un buen trabajo. A lo que tenemos debemos hacerle mantenimiento para evitar que se deteriore, hiciste una excelente restauración hidratando la madera con el aceite y luego tomo ese brillo con la cera de vela.
