Since a few days ago at home we have been watching many Marvel movies, some animated and one of the curious things that my daughter noticed is that there is always a character in almost all of them and it is Stan Lee, she noticed it but she didn't know who he was. Until we looked up his whole story on the web, and she was fascinated, she couldn't believe that this man was the brilliant mind behind the Marvel universe.
Fue divertido enseñarle a mi hija toda su historia, ya que ella no sabía que antes todo este mundo se presentaba por medio de los cómics, algo muy diferente a la actualidad. Si bien ella no es gran fan de todos los personajes e historias como yo, disfrutó conocerlos, además de como fueron evolucionando con los años.
It was fun to show my daughter all their history, as she didn't know that in the past this whole world was presented through comics, something very different from today. While she is not a big fan of all the characters and stories like me, she enjoyed learning about them, as well as how they evolved over the years.
Entonces todo esto hizo que me dieran ganas de hacer una ilustración de la mente maestra de este mundo fabuloso. Pasé bastante tiempo viendo imágenes y pensé en diferentes estilos para dibujarlo. Aquí me detuve bastante tiempo considerando muchas cosas. Hasta que por fin decidí crearlo con pocos colores, únicamente los lentes llevarían un tono peculiar y característico, dejando lo demás en tonos de negros y grises.
So all this made me want to do an illustration of the mastermind of this fabulous world. I spent a lot of time looking at images and thought of different styles to draw him. Here I stopped for a long time considering many things. Until I finally decided to create it with few colors, only the lenses would have a peculiar and characteristic tone, leaving the rest in shades of black and gray.
Decidí crearlo con un estilo semi realista, para que contara con rasgos naturales. Me tomó unas seis horas distribuidas en dos días y debo decir que el resultado final lo veo y lo vuelvo a ver y me encanta por el detalle de los lentes.
I decided to create it in a semi-realistic style, so that it would have natural features. It took me about six hours distributed in two days and I must say that the final result I see it and I see it again and I love it because of the detail of the glasses.
Para lograr esta ilustración creé mi boceto principal usando portaminas y jugando con trazos hasta obtener la silueta del personaje. Siempre haciendo trazos suaves, esto es muy importante, no queremos dejar marcas si necesitamos borrar algo. El siguiente paso es hacer un delineado muy delicado, esto lo hago para no trabajar sobre las líneas de mi boceto.
To achieve this illustration I created my main sketch using mechanical pencil and playing with strokes until I got the silhouette of the character. Always making soft strokes, this is very important, we don't want to leave marks if we need to erase something. The next step is to make a very delicate outline, I do this in order not to work on the lines of my sketch.
Seguidamente trabajo el rostro con grafito y trabajando las luces y sombras. En este paso en particular aplico color blanco sobre el grafito y me encanta ya que le da una textura muy suave y adquiere un tono de color diferente. Los lentes los trabajé con color de madera amarillo y lo realcé con marcador. Agregué reflejos en el rostro del mismo tono de color. Tambien profundicé los detalles para darle volumen con un bolígrafo cor negro, con cuidado ya que trabajar con bolígrafo no es tan fácil.
Next I work the face with graphite and working the lights and shadows. In this particular step I apply white color over the graphite and I love it because it gives a very soft texture and acquires a different color tone. I worked on the glasses with yellow wood color and enhanced it with marker. I added reflections on the face in the same color tone. I also deepened the details to give it volume with a black cor pen, carefully as working with a pen is not so easy
El cabello también lo trabajé con bolígrafo únicamente, agregando los detalles de pequeños cabellos alborotados, muchos detalles los trabajé con bolígrafo. Ya para finalizar realicé un delineado más prolijo, sin realzar demasiado, además con un borrador cilíndrico le dí luces en muchos lugares lo que le da un aspecto más natural a la ilustración.
The hair was also worked with pen only, adding the details of small tousled hair, many details were worked with pen. Finally I made a more neat outline, without emphasizing too much, also with a cylindrical eraser I gave highlights in many places which gives a more natural look to the illustration.
Lista la ilustración no está de más borrar los contornos, para que el trabajo quedé pulcro y así es como quedó, errores muchos pero me encantó, esto me dejó con las ganas de ilustrar algunos personajes de Marvel y jugar con los colores y estilos. Suele ser muy divertido. Espero les guste 📸

My husband and I have been Marvel fans for a very long time now…we haven’t missed a beat. Unfortunately with some of the changes being made due to Disney taking over, we’re not sure how much longer we will be fans. 🫤
